As ambassador for the Hot Chocolate 15/5K Philadelphia I earned a trip to one of there other race location and selected Seattle. Philadelphia is rather flat so I opted for the 5K plus I wanted to see as much of Seattle as I could in the short weekend I was here. My friend and I were super surprised we were able to get such great 5K times since it was significantly hillier than we were use to. This was both of ours 1st destination race and we had a blast. There are a few go to location for races in Philadelphia and we've hit all the popular one multiple times. It was nice change of pace to have a different course than what we are use to. I did find the tunnel uneven and hot that probably what I like least about the course, totally thought it be the hills but they were bearable well except ending on one that wasn't super fun. There was tons of space at the start, finish, and party area which was great nothing is worse than a crowd race where you cant get any where. It started on time and the race company was very informative. Running this made me excited for the upcoming race in Philadelphia. And now I have the awesome race hoodie to show all my friends who have been holding out on signing up. I liked last years give away but this years is 10x better, well minus the sleeve last year had longer sleeves. And as always the chocolate finisher mug was amazing!

Considering it's their first time in Seattle, the event itself was pretty good. But, there's definitely room to improve! Big Thank you to everyone who involved and made this happen. I had a lot of fun. Too bad, my friend lost a family member and she was not able to join me! Believe or not, I signed up for this event because 1) it benefits to one of my favorite charity, Ronald McDonald House and 2) I thought the hoodie in the goodie bag was pretty cool! I wore the hoodie the day before the race and decided I'd be over heated if I wore that to my race. Therefore, I didn't wear it! I loved all the cheering along the race route. I felt very encouraged! Oh man, this holy rolling hills really kicked my butt! This can be Chilly Hilly in the running form on a sunny day! :-P Who doesn't love chocolate? I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of chocolate, but hey, they had really good chocolate post race celebration food, hot chocolate, marshmallow, pretzels, rice crispy, chocolate dip, banana, etc... You just can't say no! Though, I was a bit confused! When I was about to start, some of the 5K runners came back. I had hard time finding my way to the start line. I was glad the volunteer was able to lead me to the right direction. I was late for my corral but I made it!

Just this year I became a long distance runner. As in I would go out and run 5+ miles FOR FUN (which is very shocking because I was a child who dreaded the weekly mile in PE class). With a few 5k fun runs under my belt I signed up for the 2014 Seattle Half Marathon- pleased with the fact that I got around my goal time, and actually completed the run, made me want to do more of them. I got a "runners high". The next thing I knew I was online looking for more runs to race in. I stumbled across the Hot Chocolate Run and it got me immediately with "chocolate" :) Looking into it more I was excited that they gave out jackets instead of the normal t-shirt one receives for participating in a run. The jacket was pretty good quality for the race sign up entry fee ($70). The run took us around downtown and up across the George Washington Memorial bridge (crossing the bridge was the toughest part for me because not only was it 7 miles into the race, it was mostly up hill). Definitely stopped to walk for a bit haha. In the info section about the run it said there would be a lot of chocolate- not specifying the type. My first impression was that there'd be chocolate bars passed out and truffle stations: however, along the course there were stands passing out just marshmallows and tootsie rolls- which wasn't a bad decision on their part because many of the runners couldn't stomach a marshmallow and run 9+ miles. At the end there were cute recovery bowls filled with delicious hot chocolate, a small banana, at least a half cup of chocolate fondue, pretzels and a Rice Krispie treat. They also passed out snazzy medals for the 15k finishers. Overall this was a good, well organized run and I will be doing it again next year! :)

The teachers here are amazing, they're not just there to coach, they actually jump in and work out with you, which makes the whole experience so much more motivating. This place has changed over time, but it still delivers a workout that's fun and keeps you coming back. I'm still mourning the loss of Blended (their smoothie and açaí shop), who doesn't love a post-workout treat that feels like a reward? Right now, that space looks like it's under construction, so I'm hoping they bring it back or create something just as great. They also moved the entrance further up the street, and the new self-check-in system makes things way smoother so no more awkward moments while someone looks for your name. As for the workouts, they've got spin, yoga, strength training, and Shred. Shred is like mat Pilates on steroids with free weights, resistance bands, and weighted balls. My favorites are yoga and Shred, both in infrared-heated rooms, so you'll definitely sweat it out. The vibe is on point with cool lighting and upbeat music that keeps you going (even through endless planks). Plus, their waiting area is surprisingly big and has a fun, modern feel. Parking? Super easy. There's free parking in the apartment complex this space is in, and if that's full, street parking is usually close by. Overall, Studio 3 still delivers, even with the changes. Now if only those smoothies would make a comeback.......fingers crossed for summer!

You like to mix up the ways you work out, but don't necessary know what to do. You appreciate the class format, because you can go hard for 60 minutes and then be done for the day! Small (20 or less) and diverse classes, killer instructors, a tasty smoothie bar, and a lowkey casual lobby, this gym really is fantastic. Last week, I did five classes. The unlimited membership for me is the way to go, frankly, it's a great deal. I did 2 strength classes (absolutely love the loud music while lifting in a fast pace environment), 2 yoga classes (I'm terrible but I know it's important) and one cycle / shred class (great mix of intensity for a steady sweat). The instructors I met were great (especially Ally & Frank, Maegan & Cheyenne too for yoga). Really, genuinely, great. I wasn't originally a class person, and I don't socialize during classes with others but that doesn't matter. Come in for the work outs and leave happy. It's worth it!

The Body Pump classes--especially Rachel's--are fantastic and definitely a highlight of my workouts. Cons: On the downside, the cardio machines are definitely outdated and need an upgrade. The women's locker room feels quite dingy, and standard supplies like toilet paper are rarely refilled promptly. It really feels like management doesn't prioritize maintaining the club; for instance, the lights in the women's locker room were completely out for days, leaving us with just a few dim emergency bulbs.

It's honestly a steal if you would like to try them out. The facility was clean and nice, it had showers and a place to hang your bags. The hot room was spacious and clean as well. I loved the big windows and it really opened up the space! Music playing in the lobby would've been nice, but that's definitely not a big deal. I signed in and took a Hot Pilates class with Eddie, I believe. He was kind and helped me sign in. He was a great instructor as well. He did a good job of pumping us up. As I mentioned, Hot Pilates was the first class I took. I was a bit taken aback with how the class was more like HIIT than Pilates. Given, the description did said Pilates was combined with HIIT, but I felt that there were no Pilates principles incorporated at all. Maybe I'm just picky and like to stick with Classical Pilates, but many of the exercises we did went against Pilates principles. We did many sets of burpees, but they are really bad for your alignment (especially against Pilates principles). I am currently training to get my Pilates Teacher Training Certificate and wanted to try out how Mat Pilates would be different in a 'Hot' setting, but I wasn't really able to do that given we only did two types of Pilates exercises. Afterward, I was slightly upset that it wasn't what I was expected since the word 'Pilates' was in the class title. I wasn't able to take anymore classes on my trip due to how sore I was after. That was on my part as I pushed myself too hard in this class, given I do less intense workouts to align with my severe asthma. So, I truly didn't get to experience a variety of classes that I wished. I do believe that the Hot Yoga would've been great and that the facility is nice. If you are expecting the Pilates to be similar to the reformer or Mat Pilates, expect something different. But if you want a really good workout I say go for it!

My first encounter with SSP was a Saturday morning Metabolic Conditioning class. For someone who doesn't really know her way around weights & equipment and was def more out of shape than the other folks there, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Everyone was SO friendly and made me feel like I was joining a community as soon as I walked through the door. Throughout the entire hour, Ro led our class of about 10-15 people through a series of high-intensity interval training workouts and made sure we were all appropriately pushed to our limits. Every exercise was super form-focused and accessible to different skill levels and abilities. I may have felt like I needed to vom and/or pass out a couple of times but, more than anything, I was v proud of myself for challenging my body. Since that class, I have returned and worked out with a number of the other trainers (Meg, Ana, and Jay) who are all equally attentive, encouraging, and just the best. The exercises they prepare are always tough, fun, and never the same. I never thought I'd be one to use kettlebells, TRX, and battle ropes but here I am, getting a little stronger every time I go to SSP. I often think about how miserable I was with my virtually nonexistent exercise routine about a year ago and am so glad that I found this gym.
