I really wanted to give a 5 star and be happy and go to happy hour with a non infected, clean, non smelling mouth. But I can't. I hate any negative review because it is a business that employs people. My review is really my situation. The staff is friendly, polite, clean, professional. I really wish steps were taken earlier to prevent my situation. My situation is back to square one with less money and my insurance depleted. I can't even get my infected tooth out of my mouth because oral surgeons want $4,500+. Not kidding. A little less than 4 months ago i came for a THIRD ROOT CANAL ON THE SAME TOOTH. This time wave technology should of fixed me up. No. After weeks and months, I'm worse off. My tooth hurts when i bite and now i have tooth infection smell leaking into my mouth. I'm really unhappy and stink. When i first came, surgery went well, I thought. My tooth immediately was infected, my mouth swelled and my face swelled. My buddies wife thought i got botox on my rightside only. I called, was prescribed antibiotics. They didn't work. The swelling went down, but i was prescribed heavier antibiotics because the infection survived. I was on antibiotics for at least a month. Still infected. My mouth smells as i type. My new dentist, who i won't go back to, sent me here. Both got their insurance money and my out of pocket.... 194.00 from here a few hundred over there. I'm responsible for my error. I am ultimately responsible for my health care. I got lazy and went with others "word". Never again. I should of Googled "is my tooth cracked" before i had THREE ROOT CANALS ON THE SAME TOOTH. It's my fault, I give myself a 1 star for my judgement. I just want others to wake up and do RESEARCH BEFORE YOU go with someones word. If i only knew my tooth was cracked and needed to be taken out, I wouldn't of wasted almost 2 years on this. Now, I literally, am thinking about Tom Hanks in Castaway removing his tooth with a skate blade and a rock! But for myself, I will have at least 5 vodka's before i do this. And if i succeed, I will most likely look like a Hills Have Eyes guy because my jaw will now have a hole in it...... My god! Again. The folks here are nice, good people. This doc is the type you dream of finding! I first used him over 25 years ago and then again. I am so not afraid to have a root canal because I did not feel the numbing injections and just knowing he uses the state-of-the art X-rays and equipment, I felt very safe. I had a root canal on tooth #14 done by Dr. Garland two weeks ago. The procedure went really well and I did not experience any pain during and after the procedure. Dr. Garland was very careful with the numbing injections, 3 of them :-) I had consultation with another endodontist before coming to Dr. Garland and am very happy with my decision to go with him. Dr. Garland and his staff were professional and efficient. Both consultation and actual treatment appointments started on time. During the consultation appointment, Dr. Garland answered all my questions. The treatment was an hour long. Hopefully I don't have a need for another root canal! But if I do, I would definitely come back to Dr. Garland. read more

Someone asked me for an update so I'm going to comment again for anyone who's interested. Dr. Garland checks your root canal after 6 months and again after 1 year (included in the cost) to make sure things are healing well. I just finished my 1-year checkup and everything is perfect. All the bone that had deteriorated in my jaw due to infection has grown back completely. I still have never had any issues with pain or trouble chewing using the tooth he repaired. I still recommend him highly and still would never want to go anywhere else if I needed another root canal. Dr. Garland's entire staff is friendly, personable and accommodating, just like him. the office is dirty, the staff added ups and extras $ twice what they quoted over the phone and were untruthful, deceptive android they couldn't find my x-rays that were faxed the day before became lost. the dr lacks integrity charged me for services they didn't provide, while going off on vacation instead of following thru honestly with a report. My dentist sent me to Dr. Garland to assess a tooth that I was having extreme pain with. I have a deep seeded fear of the dentist and I am especially fearful of male dentists due to things that happened to me as a child. What I want to let everyone know, is that Dr. Garland is the most gentle, caring, honest, and thorough dentist. He assessed my tooth and said I did not need a root canal. In turn, he just adjusted my bite from some dental work I had recently and I had immediate relief. I can't attest to his root canal work but I can attest to his character. You can trust that Dr. Garland won't do anything that is unnecessary and that he will go above and beyond for his patients. He told me if I had any more pain, he would squeeze me into his schedule whenever he could because I was leaving on a trip. Thank goodness I had no more pain after my first visit. I was in Solana Beach visiting from Arizona . I had to have a root canal all of a sudden. I was referred to Dr Garland. His front office manager was able to work me in the next day. He was excellent. I had to see Dr. Garland for a root canal that my dentist was suspicious about. Turns out it wasn't done properly (by a previous dentist) and needed to be redone to avoid potential risks. Although, I came out of the experience pain free and so far no issues, I was surprised by how much I was charged for a repair on one tooth. I calculated the entire bill and was charged $2,259.00! WOW!!! That is extremely inflated and thank god I had insurance, but even my out-of-pocket was $720.80. I had no idea what the initial cost would be and was only told I had to pay for the 3-D x-ray ($295) since the insurance did not cover it. I gave Dr. Garland 3 Stars because he was very good and I felt no pain what-so-ever after the procedure was done. I just wish the dental administrator was more forthcoming on the cost beforehand and instead was told on the day of my procedure. read more

I had several root canals that were done by a dentist. One of them failed. Another root canal he had done was very painful afterwards, and I had scary side effects. I went to a new dentist. He sent me to Dr. Garland. He expertly redid it and there was none of the problems like I had before. I give him a very high recommendation - as good as it gets. read more

Dr Garland got me in on short notice before I went on vacation. I really appreciated it and found I could go on vacation without issue. It went town hill from there. I scheduled a root canal for 4 weeks after the initial consultation. As the date approached I call 10 days prior to change my appt. I left a message ,no return call. I called again and left a message. No return call. I called again and was able to finally reschedule. Today I went for the root canal. I can't imagine a root canal can ever be fun but this didn't have to be as bad as it turned out to be! Dr Garlands assistant was terrible. They covered my mouth with plastic in order to isolate the tooth. It was uncomfortable and a bit claustrophobic but workable. Then Dr Garlands assistant literally checked out and did not regularly clear my saliva. I had to raise my hand in order to get her attention. It was like I was a cadaver! Not a live person. I became uncomfortable and agitated and she never picked up on it! I'd look at her and she was literally mentally somewhere else! BAZAAR. I ended up gagging on some caustic chemical she did not clear, so they had to stop & rinse my mouth. It was a brutal gagging experience. When I checked out it was $2100. I was in shock that an hour procedure was $2100!!! No one had bothered to discuss the immense expense of this procedure with me! Dr Garland May be a great dr but his office staff gets a big thumbs down from me! I will not return! read more

Both my dentist and orthodonist recommended seeing Dr. Garland for a possible retreatment of an old root canal. And I'm so happy that they did! Dr. Garland and his team are incredible -- they're friendly, personable, and professional. And I really liked that they used the latest technologies. Dr. Garland and Melissa made my root canal experience painless and surprisingly relaxing. Dr. Garland is a pro, and even his novocaine shot barely hurt. I've had my share of them, and this was by far my best experience. The entire procedure took about an hour and a half, and it flew by since I was watching HGTV (they have a TV built into the ceiling, a really nice touch). Dr. Garland was very skilled and thorough -- he even found a canal that wasn't previously treated. I can't recommend Dr. Garland highly enough. read more

My regular dentist sent me to Dr. Garland for a complicated root canal and assessment of another tooth. Dr. Garland and his lovely assistant made me comfortable right away. I am a freak about taking care of my teeth, flossing etc. So, I was shocked to hear that I needed a root canal under my new porcelain crown (only 7 mo old). I recently took my friend to Dr. Garland for a root canal and I was very impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of all the office staff and assistants.
