While the food is decent, the owner / manager gives the impression that customers are a nuisance and that everything is very irritating. There is a sign on the wall addressing their slow service, stating something like 'We won't compromise food quality for fast service'. But I've waited what seems to be the same amount of time I've waited for food at establishments such as Chili's or Olive Garden for fried chicken and fries. After a year, I decided to try Randy's again thinking that maybe the new owners have worked out the kinks in their food preparation. The restaurant is still nicely painted and decorated cheerfully (not much wear and tear in a year), and the TV was showing a canine obstacle course competition. Since it was Father's Day, there were quite a few people there. The median age was 75 years old. The lights were off in one area of the restaurant, not in the romantic mood lighting sort of way though, but bulbs burned out. We put in our order at the counter and noticed the broaster chicken was running low at 12:30 p.m. The broaster chicken meals come with a biscuit and one side. I chose the broaster potatoes, as I remembered a year ago the mashed potatoes and gravy were not to my liking. The broaster chicken pieces are bigger and more normal to size than they were last year, served fresh from the fryer but a bit too salty for my taste, and I love salt. The broaster potatos were actually quite good, and the biscuit was warmish. It took at least 20 minutes to get our meal, as they had to fry up another batch in the middle of the lunch crowd. My SO ordered a hamburger. The fries were extra and so was the soft drink. The hamburger was OK. Total bill for 3 pieces of chicken (breast, wing & drumstick), a serving of broaster potato chunks, 1 biscuit, 1 hamburger, 1 serving of fries and a soft drink was a little under $13.00. The strawberry shortcake sundae and chocolate dipped chocolate soft serve ice cream was a little under $6.00, but the vanilla ice cream was already pooling when I received it. The owner/manager and cashier did come to our table to ask if we were happy with the food and service which was a nice touch. This isn't going to be my go-to place for a quick meal, as it's not particularly quick and there are establishments that make better fried chicken and hamburger, but I can see stopping here every once and awhile to support a local business. read more

Monticello is a wonderful little town where small businesses flourish. I always stay at the Lighthouse Lodge B&B which is a wonderful location. I stopped by this place with my son and grandson after a day at Indiana Beach. The girls at the counter were pleasant enough but the owners were confrontational and hostile. They advertise "meals" but apparently these aren't "combo" meals. My son ordered chicken but was told fries were extra. When he asked how much the fries were the silver-haired lady behind the counter glared at him and said "i dunno, what's the price on the sign say?" real sarcastically. My son ordered a soda and he finished it off while standing at the counter. He asked for a refill and was advised only one free refill per drink. This is NOT the norm for restaurants but I understand smaller establishments have different rules, however one would think that if refills are limited, they wouldn't add such a generous amount of ice. I asked for a small arctic blast (their name for a blizzard) made with chocolate ice cream. They delivered the item after we'd taken our seats and I noticed the blast was made with vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate. I asked the girl if it was chocolate and she said no. I asked if I could get chocolate and she went behind the counter. The male owner spoke to her for a moment and she came back and said the reason it was vanilla was she made the blast out of one machine and vanilla was all it offered. I asked her if they could add some chocolate syrup at least and she left again. She came back and had the gall to say there would be an additional charge? The impression one gets from Randy's is they give you the bare minimum at a premium price and charge extra for EVERYTHING else. Like the previous poster said, the food was substandard. The chicken was tasteless, the fries soggy, the ice cream left MUCH to be desired and the new owners were rude beyond measure. Do yourself a favor, if you're visiting Indiana Beach or Monticello, do NOT eat here. read more

Have been to Randy's half a dozen or more times between last year and this. The food was good . The broasted chicken is good when fresh. I have YET to be there when the manager /? owner has given the impression of wanting to be there himself or wants customers in the establishment. Being in a location that many of the towns tourist would encounter leaves me wondering what they think of the local hospitality.The signs on the door : Restroom for customer only....really with the short hours of operation daily that are posted does one really have that many noncustomers entering the door not making a purchase to relieve themselves make that much difference. (by the way that wasn't me). I have painstakedly made an a error and ordered a carry out meal for my family of 4, I was told at the register that is was take out only because he couldn't afford to give out plates and silverware to everyone cause it costs to much. We were to meet a elderly family friend there her choice , I met her in the parking lot and she said she was ordering separate meal for herself with 2pieces of chicken biscuit and coleslaw, since it was for her only she is provided silverware and welcome to eat in the dining room. Her order was quickly prepared and I obtained it from the counter and took it to where we were seated, upon our order being ready I asked which drink was which since they were different , "I didn't mark them" he said."you'll just have to take a drink and figure it out".... I also brought our order to the table it was a sack and box of chicken I sat it on the table. Realizing our order was short one drink I went back to the counter with cash and ordered a small drink, at this time the owner said to me "So, you're going to go head and eat that here after I told you it was for carry out only" (The containers on the table were still in the sack and the chicken box still closed) I looked at him and said we didn't ask you for any table service, I was told , "I'll permit it this time, but don't do it again, If I let you eat here then everyone will be wanting too! I calmly stated ... Its ok we won't be back" I was told I was rude and wasn't wanted back he didn't need my business,(I'm sure my 34.00 or so won't make or break his day ) he quickly slid the cup of pop on the counter toward me and looked away I had to ask for a lid and straw for it. He was totally put out. Maybe when you stay we weren't suppose to have lids ... maybe only on take out?This was the first time we have ever had words, the rest of time I have just watched his attitude with customers. There are several booths and couple of tables in the restaurant, isn't it ashame if we had opened our containers that we couldn't of eaten with our family friend. Heaven forbid he would want people eating in his restaurant....Maybe if enough people don't , he won't have to worry about going to work. The ironery to this all is my kids had placed the order and left to go get something for us to eat on and with from the dollar store so we could go to the park since we were told it was take out only.
