Went for Valentine's specials, everything was great. Food was absolutely delicious. Service was above expected... kitchen even made a specialized hot chocolate drink (not pictured) that was not currently on the menu, but had been in the past. It was nicely decorated & band was great to listen to. This place has 5 stars. Only thing that is questionable is something my husband said about the men's bathroom decor... something about male genitalia (not sure if he meant decor or graffiti). ‍

We love the Riverside. Beautiful location. Strong drinks. Great food. One of the hugest breaded tenderloins around. Often a musician on the deck outside on summer weekend nights which can get quite loud.

While I was expecting an expanded bar and grill-style menu, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot more. There's a lot of great choices in addition to the usual bar staples. A Cajun chicken with peppers and onions was a cheese lover's delight as it was covered in it. A clam strip special was a great appetizer for something different. Oysters (Friday and Saturdays only, I think) were big and tasty, and are served with some great cocktail sauce and horseradish. French Onion Soup (Fridays and Saturdays only) was very good. Filet with lobster tail (Friday and Saturdays only) was a great value, especially with two sides included. The filet was perfect and the lobster pretty good. The catfish was also pretty good. This is an out-of-the-way place in a semi-residential area, on a scenic piece of property on the river, not far from Lake Shafer. The inside has a bar and dining room with a comfortable rustic feel. Outside, there's a large covered porch, and a few steps down is an open-air area with lounge-type seating. We were visitors to the area and had such a good experience the first night, that we came back the next night with a larger group. We ate outside the first night and inside the second, and after dinner the second night, we had drinks in the backyard area, while enjoying the view of the river and an acoustic performer on the covered porch. On both nights, service was friendly, efficient and not rushed. Separate checks weren't a problem. They offer a number of beers including some local options.

I can't believe nobody has talked about their smoked pork chop. Talk about good food. We tried some fried smelt as an appetizer. Small fish butterflied breaded and deep fried. Served with cocktail sauce and tarter sauce. They were really good and you get a large basked for a good price. The absolute highlight was the smoked pork chop. It came out heavily grilled and packed with flavor!! It reminded me of a thick juicy cut of smoked ham. The fries were crispy and delicious. The included side salad was good but just a plain side salad. This place was recommended by a coworker. He was right, good food and friendly atmosphere.

Another good experience today. We were seated promptly and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the tenderloin, as I usually do. In the past, there has been a distinct seasoning on the breading. This time, I did not notice the breading. The size of the sandwich was good and the fries were hot. It was still good. It is the breading that used to make the sandwich great!

So we were visiting friends on Shaffer Lake bear Indiana Beach. We decided to grab an bite to eat. The scenery from the large windows overlooking the river was beautiful. They had several daily specials including Filet Tips, bacon wrapped Shrimp and asparagus soup and everything was very good. My husband ordered the fried shrimp and it was very good as well. Service was great and prices were reasonable. It is worth a visit

Of the four meals, three were over cooked and should have been sent back. After the little too long wait, we just were ready to leave.

We stopped in with a small group (11 of us) around 7:00p on a Friday and secured the last two tables available. The service was a tad slow from the get-go but when our waitress came around for drink orders it was firing it all cylinders! (I wish I could remember her name but she did say her sister owns the place) She was an absolute pro and took care of everything we could've asked for without hesitation. She was a treat! Oh, and I feel like she created their POS system b/c she knew how to make that thing bend to her will! The menu seems small but it is packed with all kinds of things that anyone would be able to find something. I went with the Mango Habanero wings and they were delicious! Someone else went with the Home Run sandwich and raved about it. Needless to say, everyone was more than happy with their orders! The dining room was also a pleasant experience. Not quiet but also not loud, the perfect amount of ambiance to feel like a typical sports bar (with more restaurant feel than bar). There are ample tables of all sizes and plenty of TVs, plus a jukebox (which was turned off for "dinner time", which was perfect). We absolutely loved our experience at Rugie's and cannot wait to return again next time we're in the area.

My only problem was the shrimp cocktail is way over priced for the small shrimp you get and they were not cold. And there is nothing worse than scanning a menu just to find out that the first three things you want they are out of. A restaurant should never ever run out of food on their menu and if they do, tell the people before they spend the time reading and ordering something for no reason. Don't just hope that the people won't order it. Disclose it, or never run out in the first place. The food we did get was fantastic. I'd give them another shot if they corrected their problems

Indiana Beach sold a handful of years ago from the original family founders to an out-of-state corporate entity. Since then, there have been ongoing complaints and rumors each summer tourist season would be Indiana Beach's last. Many locals have tried reaching out and helping Morgan RV Parks, the current New York State-based owners of Indiana Beach, but they've reportedly received little to no response. Yet, as of last tourist season, the Skyroom was still turning out some delicious food albeit struggling to maintain decent service. Fortunately for guests (and poorly trained staff), the Skyroom has not been as popular as it used to be, so kitchen and front-of-house staff have been somewhat able to make do. If you have good memories of the Skyroom, I might suggest visiting this summer (2014), because it may be your last chance to enjoy a nice dinner in their comfortable, air-conditioned dining room overlooking Lake Shafer and the colorfully lighted Indiana Beach boardwalk.

There is a sign on the wall addressing their slow service, stating something like 'We won't compromise food quality for fast service'. But I've waited what seems to be the same amount of time I've waited for food at establishments such as Chili's or Olive Garden for fried chicken and fries. The restaurant is still nicely painted and decorated cheerfully (not much wear and tear in a year), and the TV was showing a canine obstacle course competition. Since it was Father's Day, there were quite a few people there. The median age was 75 years old. The lights were off in one area of the restaurant, not in the romantic mood lighting sort of way though, but bulbs burned out. We put in our order at the counter and noticed the broaster chicken was running low at 12:30 p.m. The broaster chicken meals come with a biscuit and one side. I chose the broaster potatoes, as I remembered a year ago the mashed potatoes and gravy were not to my liking. The broaster chicken pieces are bigger and more normal to size than they were last year, served fresh from the fryer but a bit too salty for my taste, and I love salt. The broaster potatos were actually quite good, and the biscuit was warmish. It took at least 20 minutes to get our meal, as they had to fry up another batch in the middle of the lunch crowd. My SO ordered a hamburger. The fries were extra and so was the soft drink. The hamburger was OK. Total bill for 3 pieces of chicken (breast, wing & drumstick), a serving of broaster potato chunks, 1 biscuit, 1 hamburger, 1 serving of fries and a soft drink was a little under $13.00. The strawberry shortcake sundae and chocolate dipped chocolate soft serve ice cream was a little under $6.00, but the vanilla ice cream was already pooling when I received it. The owner/manager and cashier did come to our table to ask if we were happy with the food and service which was a nice touch. This isn't going to be my go-to place for a quick meal, as it's not particularly quick and there are establishments that make better fried chicken and hamburger, but I can see stopping here every once and awhile to support a local business.
