Great food and views of the lake! Came here after a long day at Indiana Beach, and the food really hit the spot.

Right as me and my family walked in this place, it was probably the most filthy restaurant I've ever seen. The workers aren't doing anything it was our first time we didn't know what we are doing. All the bartenders and workers our on their phone and not helping us. We order our food and fill up our drinks. The drinks were absolutely horrible and nasty they had no filter, they were made with that well water. Meanwhile we are waiting 20+ minutes for our food. I go in its all just sitting there because they said they will "Bring it to us" Nope! We all have to go in to get the food. Now we sit down with our food. It's absolutely terrible. I ordered garlic parm chicken tenders, I don't taste any parm straight garlic. Overall everyone's food was just terrible and the whole experience was terrible and we will never be going back there again. read more

Beautiful river views. Good food. Black & Blue burger, wings with several sauce choices, pizza also very good. Bartenders are amazing.

The habenjero mango wings were amazing. Not too hot not too sweet. Love the new menu. I glad it is kid friendly and later they have a band. Just what Monticello needed. read more

Talk about a hidden gem. If we hadn't gotten lost, we would have never found this restaurant. We stopped to get lunch, sat outside on the deck above the boat docks and watched both a Cubs game and the boat traffic go by. It's located on a really nice, scenic part of the lake. Inside is a pool table, foosball table, a boxing game and other similar entertainment along with a bar, booths and tables. It had a summer camp clubhouse kind of feel. The other negative reviews are not kidding about the poor attitude of the waitress. Our waitress was brusque and not at all friendly, but she gradually came out and took our order and drinks. We had to get our own condiments indoor and request refills which we got one. When our food finally came out (and it did take a while), we were surprised how good it was. My SO got a hamburger which was hand shaped, fancy bun and large with standard fries. He thinks it's one of the better burgers in town. I got chicken wings "ricky bobby" style where they are deep fried and then grilled. Hint to waitress - don't ask me if I know what "ricky bobby" style is. It's well described on the menu, and I can read. Why else would I ask for it by name? OMG best chicken wings I have ever had! Sorry Sportsman and Whiskey Wine Saloon. Unfortunately, they are a seasonable restaurant so they'll close mid October and I assume open next spring again. I can see this being a once a month restaurant in the summer when it's nice outside, but only because we're only here on the weekends, it's not worth sitting inside, and it takes 19 minutes from our house in town to Upper Lake Shafer to get to The Sandbar. read more

This review is from last year. The staff was rude and food poor and took forever! I see you are doing a great looking remodel this year. I would love to frequent the Sandbar since its close and I can come by boat so I am Begging you...this year please hire wait staff that knows what they are doing and treats people like they are actually happy they are there and for God's sake work on your food. Service was TERRIBLE..... We got there and sat outside to enjoy the scenery and the warm weather. Unfortuantely we had to go inside because we could not get waited on outside. We went inside after waiting about 205 minutes outside. We then waited inside for about 20 minutes without being waited on. We finally got up to leave to go to Jakes beach House and finally a waiter asked if there was anything he could get us, so we went ahead and ordered. The girlfriend oredered a margarita when she FINALLY got it it was in a plastic cup and looked like orange juice. Food wasnt all that bad but the service was horrible. Nice looking place but next time I think we will just go to Jakes Beach House. read more

Today a group of my friends and I rented a pontoon boat and decided to spend the day on the lake. We come to Monticello annually for Memorial Day weekend to start off the camping season. Today we decided to grab some lunch at the Sandbar because we could dock the boat right outside. It looks beautiful and the remodel of the deck is amazing. However, this restaurant goes to show that looks can be deceiving. Lets start out with our trip to the restroom.. I felt like stale manure as numerous flies landed on my backside. The toilet to the left in the women's bathroom did not flush, and literally had no handle to flush with. Not even a sign on the door to let the sad soul know what they are in for. Now why on earth would you waste such a sweet setup like you have, and have gas station level cuisine. Honestly- below gas station level. That was the absolute soggiest fish and chips I have ever been served. The "coney" dog was an interesting hue of grey/green. Topping it off with a Fresh display of onion and pube. A curly thick hair in the hotdog I was looking so forward to. Two of the other couples with us also was graced with a fury friend in their food. After staff was informed on multiple occasions, and being repeatedly ignored.. ( giggled at, at one point), we just paid the bill to get the hell out of there! Like I said, sweet set-up, but lets pull it together with your food, and service recovery. No one should pay for a hair in their meal. -A disappointed customer read more

We thought the food was very good. We had the crab cakes as an appetizer, loved them. Tried the fried assortment, Mac and cheese bites were very good, the pepper jack cheese balls were my favorite, my wife and I both loved the fried green beans as well. I had the Philly steak sandwich with seasoned fries, I thought both were awesome. My wife had the tenderloin and it was very good, she tried the crinkle cut fries which are her favorite and she wasn't disappointed. The servers were very friendly and the drinks were cold, our food arrived in a timely fashion. We will recommend people go there to eat that visit a small resort we operate nearby. read more

After a day on the boat, the whole crew was getting hungry. We docked at the Sandbar to eat some lunch. California chicken sandwich and Philly Cheese steak was excellent !!! Service was quick and efficient. The indoor sandbox kept my child occupied while we ate. Perfect ending to a beautiful day on the lake. read more

Found this exceptional lounge with excellent food and ice cold beer. The pizza, club sandwich and the fried chicken tenders were delicious and cooked to perfection. The live entertainment with the Flying Toasters was an amazing experience. The staff was engaged and eager to assist their patrons. Definitely a place to visit again. read more

Looks good from the outside......not so good on the inside. Food leaves a lot to be desired. Washrooms are a bit gross. And for a place situated with views of the river/lake the windows are crusted with dead bugs. Won't be going back. read more
