I had to send my water glass back because the outside was smudged with stuck food. I checked my girlfriend's glass and it was smudged too and said she didn't do that. She said damn so my glass is contaminated and she didn't drink from it from them on. As we got our tabs, someone from the group noticed the gratuity charge so I asked about it. I spoke to the manager stating that we hadn't paid yet and didn't add that. He said it's automatic. I told him we only chose 5 items on the menu, gratuity wasn't on the menu, we didn't choose that. He said for a party of 6 or more it's automatic because some parties leave without tipping the server. I said we had separate tabs, 3 different total, our tab was three people. And he said it doesn't matter you were at the same table. I said we don't want to tip, we weren't going to tip anyway. My water glass was dirty and I had to send it back and the server will tell you that. Someone from our table wanted to order a soup and I gave them mine because the server never showed back up. Our food came out when a few people were halfway done and the restaurant was DEAD. He says but servers only make $10 an hour and it's not fair. I agree it's low but the tip is my choice take it off... he kept saying "but how much are you going to tip the server". I told him I've never seen that charge in any restaurant. He says "every restaurant does it, even Longhorns (as if it makes it any better)" and "we been doing this a long time". He wouldn't agree to take it off and time was dragging on so we left. Ending thoughts: it's like adding a portion of the electricity bill and saying "but we have to keep the restaurant running". Their wage has nothing to do with our tip. You shouldn't push a tip on us without our consent. No hospitality. They had a salad bar and someone mentioned it was all you can eat. That's something he could've said "btw we have a salad bar please help yourselves". He didn't even ask how our food was! He took the order, dropped food off then dropped off tab. Gratuity is for the service the server gives. It's voluntary. It's not a decision for the restaurant to make for you. They should pay them more if that's the case and TRAIN THEM BETTER. The only thing that kept me at this location for so long despite its low quality, was the suite type rooms that it offers. The space is very ample for one or two people. Almost like a personal apartment room. Reasons why I would never stay here again: The hotel is very old, over 12 years at the time of this writing so I was told. The walls and flooring are very thin and cheaply made. A door slam clear down the end of the hall will not only be heard in your bedroom at night, but also felt. Your bed and room will shake. Running or feet moving on the floors above you can be heard in your room. Young, bitchy front desk workers purposely slam housekeeping doors at night to wake guests up. Housekeepers will do the same in the mornings and afternoons. So depending upon your normal sleep schedule, be aware. These door slams will shake and rock your entire room. Bed and all. The evening night reception food and drink options are very cheap and low quality. The Staybridge in Bismarck is of higher quality. Not sure what happened with the one in Minot? The drink lady at the evening reception is not happy with life and is not very kind. It is an inconvenience to her when you need a drink or a refill. At the Bismarck location, there is no drink lady! You just grab your own drink from the keg. Or your own glass of wine. Evening beer drinkers only have two options the whole time, Coors Light or Steiner Bock. Bismarck location actually offered two local options which was nice. There are 4 white wine options each night. Zero red wine options. Why? Because guests like red wine, and this is a nuisance to the drink witch. Breakfast here is horrible. Holiday Inn has better breakfast. Young, bitchy front desk workers are lazy, and helping you with anything is no major concern for them. At night, many can be found sleeping at the front desk. Sheets are dirty. Please see attached photos. Spend your money and stay elsewhere. You will have a more peaceful sleep, also better experience all around.

We always get a suite, which gives us a large living room with combined kitchen in the middle and two large bedrooms and bathrooms. The staff really does their best to make your stay pleasant. Kitchen has everything you need for cooking and eating. Bathrooms have quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and many more niceties. The beds are SO comfortable! Great support, but still enough give to be comfy and the nice cozy blankets. There is also a pool (haven't had a chance to check it out yet) and great little restaurant/bar on the first floor - great for breakfast and/or cocktails and snacks. The only two mminor inconveniences are 1. It's a large hotel, but only one small set of elevators in the center so if your rooms are on the end of the wings you've got a lot of walking. 2. The water pressure isn't very solid. It's closer to drip than drench. Obviously, neither of these are big enough issues to make me stay elsewhere.

Then I got to my room, which is essentially a three room suite. SUPER clean, huge and everything has been easy to operate at 1 am. Then I crawled into bed. Wow again. It was comfortable and the sheets were silky soft. Literally the only thing that would make it better would be if there was a small balcony off the living room.
