I would caution that this facility is not designed for anyone requiring disabled access to the pools - many stairs. We lucked out calling and getting of the last two reservations for a two hour hot springs soak. The reservation includes access to a sauna, lockers and private bathroom / showers. There are options for additional massage services also with reservations. Towel and robe rentals are also available but you can bring your own. We arrived early and enjoyed a light/healthy brunch before our hot spring access. We were warmly welcomed and provided for some simple guidelines for the phone free / adult only spa. Once inside and changed there are access to six pools with varying temperatures. After two hours in the mineral waters you are amazingly relaxed and skin is smooth as silk. I would definitely go out of my way to come back. Passing through the quaint town that showcases the sandstone buildings allows for other food options and a walk through the park. 2 Stars…read more Unfortunately, our visit to Evans Plunge in South Dakota was pretty disappointing. We drove about 45 minutes specifically to enjoy the outdoor pool and water slide, especially since it was over 100 degrees outside. After paying admission, we were then told that the outdoor area wasn't available because they didn't have enough staff to operate it. That was extremely frustrating because this is something we really should have been told BEFORE paying to enter. Had we known the outdoor pool and slide were closed, we probably would not have made the trip or paid admission. What made it even more frustrating was seeing staff who, in our observation, seemed to spend quite a bit of time talking with friends rather than actively watching the pool. From our perspective, it made the explanation about being understaffed difficult to understand and left us feeling like opening the outdoor area simply wasn't a priority that day. Another major issue was the lack of seating. There had to be at least 100 people there, yet I would estimate there were maybe 25 chairs, if that, surrounding the pool. There appeared to be plenty of room for additional chairs, and people were left trying to figure out where to sit or even where to safely place their belongings. For a facility people may travel a considerable distance to visit, communication needs to be better. If a major attraction such as the outdoor pool and water slide is unavailable--especially on a 100+ degree day--guests should be informed before purchasing admission. We drove 45 minutes expecting the full experience and unfortunately left disappointed.

Let me explain every word I use here in details: Huge - the whole building has four stories, all YMCA! Fantastic - I did not have a chance to try the workout facility, just a glance and was shocked by the amount. What I did experience was the facility for shower. There were a hot tube, a sauna, huge bathrooms, free towels, free coffee, and you can borrow a key to lock your locker at the front desk - very considerate! They just have everything you can think of! Friendly staff - I was actually travelling, and told the staff I would like to purchase a one-day pass just to take a shower because I did not have the energy to workout in the gym after hiking whole day. (when I told the same thing to the staff in Anytime Fitness in the same city I got kicked out! Even with a pass! Residents of Rapid City, that local store of Anytime Fitness in your city is really a SHAME to that great national wide brand! I feel sorry for you that you do not have the chance to experience what a REAL Anytime Fitness provides to members in other cities. But you are so lucky that you have the best YMCA in the country! ) They even waived my one-day pass purchase because I only had less than two hours to use the gym. With that FREE pass I was honored UNEXPECTEDLY, a lady spent 20 minutes to introduce all facility they have to make me feel home, even when she knew I was just a passenger and might never be back! Thank you so much! I would like to share this experience as a traveler to Rapid City to every one who live in or visit this city and look for a good gym. Again, dear residents of Rapid City, you are unlucky because you have the worst store of the world wide brand Anytime Fitness, but you are so lucky that you have the best YMCA in this country! Have deep connections with the facility and countless member friends. A few weeks ago, I was physically assaulted by a young member, accused of something I didn't do, and came under defamatory personal attack. Despite my history and lengthy spotless usage, the Y staff did nothing. I have been passed to six different people. None have been remotely helpful. And I'm encountering difficulty getting refund on the 6 months I've paid ahead. I'm both heartbroken and disgusted. The current Y is unrecognizable with the facility I thought I knew. Leadership is unprofessional and comes off as having no actual insight into the reasons that people use the facility and choose to remain there. After 56 years, these decisions are unpleasant, but I feel completely devalued and betrayed.
