Had a good time here for my MIL birthday. I loved the vibes. Inside the place was more jazzy with the mans playing the saxophone and outside was where the party was really at! Outside they played music that I would've listened to. I was inside for the most part cus I was cold af but a couple drinks in and the weather outside wasn't that cold after all lol.. My first drink I asked for the lady bartender to make me a mixed drink with tequila in it. I wasn't specific on what kind of tequila & mind u it was NOT busy at the time.. it was still early like 9pm type shit. She already looked annoyed. Made me the drink and I asked how much. She says $11. I gave her a $20 and instead of giving me my change, she just looks at me and closes the register. Uh mam?! Really? I assumed she wanted her tip, but that's not what u do. How rude. I was gonna give her a tip but not my whole change WTH. Koo u have that. The drink was too sweet and barely tasted like any tequila was in there anyway. I ended up just ordering from the guy bartender the whole night and he got all my $5 tips and wasn't light handed on the liquor neither when I was buying double shots of casa migos! Raquel's Jazz Lounge - 5/5 (Yes, Even With My Feet Hurting) Now this is a late review I went a month ago Raquel's is that spot. If grown, sexy, and slightly bougie had a baby it would be this lounge. The vibe is freaking amazing. It's relaxed but not boring, stylish but not pretentious. Everyone there either knows each other, used to date, or maybe I'm over exaggerating and they've just been showing up since Raquel unlocked the doors. You immediately feel like you've walked into a family reunion just with better music and drinks. The layout feels like a grown folks' secret club Front Room: Live music, the bar, and some limited seating that requires either a reservation or psychic powers. Middle Section: Chill spot with a little more sitting room if you're lucky. Patio: Outdoor seating with a whole separate energy, plus hookah and food.That's right music, moonlight, and mango mint hookah. I just made that flavor up I don't remember what we had. LMAO but anyway Yes, please. The drinks? On point. The music? Honestly, better than a lot of overpriced concerts I've been to. The crowd? Grown and sexy. People came dressed like they were about to run into an ex and needed to look unbothered. Now, here's the thing they clearly didn't plan on all of us showing up, because once it fills up (which it did), your choices are 1) stand, 2) sway, or 3) silently pray for someone to get tired and leave their seat. And the dance floor? Big enough! Cause hey if you came to sit still, you could've stayed home, right? Moral of the story: make a reservation if you want to keep your heels on all night. Absolutely a hidden gem! The live performances are very entertaining. We danced in our seats as well as the dance floor. The group "Synergy" performed and they did not disappoint. They did every artist that they covered proud! The bartenders are friendly. Tonya makes a mean margarita!!! I'm telling you...2 is all you need! There is a back patio for those who prefer to light a good ole Cuban cigar! There's also a hookah lounge in the middle. They offer parties and all types of celebrations. The DJ's are in constant rotation and they are on point as well. All ranges and genres are played. There is a $20 cover charge and it's well worth it. From the hostess to the bartenders, everyone was welcoming. I came on a Friday night ($10 cover) at 8pm (small crowd) and the DJ had the music going. They do play other music (R&B, Reggae, Hip-Hop). By 10pm I was bumping to the music. I didn't order any food but the drinks are good. No fireball (boooo ) so I couldn't order my signature drink. Tuesday night at Raquel's is comedy and karaoke night, along with Taco Tuesday night. Hubby and I arrived kinda early...it was 7pm and no one was there. We asked the door person what time the comedy started and what time the taco man would arrive. She told us that the comedy started at 8pm and the taco person usually arrives by 9pm. So we left and decided to come back at 8pm. When we arrived at 8pm, there were only a few ppl there but luckily the taco man was there. So we ordered drinks, and ate our tacos (taco man review below) as we waited for the comedy to start. In the meanwhile, the DJ (DJ Xclusive) played great music including current hits and 90's jams!! The vibe was off the hook. The comedy show finally started around 9:15 pm but there were still only about 10 ppl in the crowd. However, the host and the 1 comedian we watched (before we left) still gave it 100%. The host was funny btw. We left around 9:30 pm and the crowd was still small. Not sure if ppl arrived later on or not but we know that Raquel's had "Reserved" tables?! Taco Man Review: The taco man set up in the back outside area. He had tacos and burritos on the menu. I ordered shrimp tacos and my husband order the beef and the chicken tacos. They are priced at about $4 each and when I say they are well seasoned, they are WELL SEASONED!! I did not try the chicken and beef (hubby said they were good) but the shrimp tacos were AWESOME! They also include a homemade pico de gallo which was superb. Pros: well done, seasoned well, taste great. Cons: one wing skin had too many feather hairs sticking out. (I pulled the skin off and ate the meat)! A lil on the greasy side. Recommendation. Various Soulfood vendors provide the cuisine. Excellent. Service from the waitresses can be hectic at times however they are more than willing to accommodate requests.
