I first met Dr. Gesik about a year ago following a referral from my acupuncturists to treat digestive issues, regular headaches and nite sweats. After several hundreds of dollars of out of pocket expenses of lab tests and a supplement business that goes hand in hand with her medical advice, the gut issues and headaches are at about 50%, and the hot flashes continue to rage. She prescribed an extensive set of bloodwork, complex stool samples and finally a new DUTCH test for hormones. About 4 months ago, Dr. Gesik said it took years to develop these health issues, therefore, there should be no expectation of quick resolve. I am confident that Dr. Gesik is knowledgeable and a leader in this field, but this isn't working. Support staff are well intentioned but need additional training for which I believe they are now receiving. The other gripe is that once they check you in and do the vitals, they place you in teeny tiny exam room until doctors is ready for 20 to 30 minutes. After about $2,000 of expenses I am discouraged. I should have turned Nicole in for insurance fraud. I called her out on ordering unnecessary blood work. I called the office manager and requested to speak to the doctor because I got a lab work bill for over $700 , including a blood type test. She never asked for that information but I new my blood type. My She put in my file I went to Bangladesh and to rule out tuberculosis. My pulmonologist was the one who told me about the note in my file and asked why I was in Bangladesh. I told him I went skiing in Colorado. Great Functional Medicine physician. Functional medicine physicians are rare and difficult to find in Honolulu. Very professional, knowledgeable, pleasant, caring, informative. Sometimes orders tests that insurance doesn' t cover (but I don't mind paying out of pocket for tests that "regular" physicians are either not aware of or neglect to inform you about). She recommends supplements that her office also provides so it looks like some level of impropriety but patients are always free to purchase them online if they find less expensive alternatives. I find, however, that her supplement prices are the same as the prices online (without having to pay the shipping) and it's more convenient to just get them while I'm in the clinic. Some of her staff, however, are a little rude and condescending on the phone. When asked if my wife could see Gesik and use her as my wife's PCP, the person on the phone growled that Gesik was a Functional Medicine doctor, not a primary care physician. What the heck is that supposed to mean? A Functional Medicine Physician can't be a PCP? 2 stars off for the office staff. read more

I injured my back and it was difficult to accurately diagnose the exact injury. After an MRI, structural damage was ruled out which was good and not good. This meant I had a soft tissue injury which would take longer to heal and I did not know the exact location of the injury. After trying a few very bad chiropractors, I found Dr Gesik as a referral from a co worker. What I found fascinating is I called around to different orthopedic doctors to see how they treat soft tissue injuries and one receptionist recommended Dr Gesik. I found the manipulation to greatly release pain within 24 hours. She practices a healing process called Strain-counter strain. She gently feels the inured area and surrounding areas and gently helps to realign your body or reset the jar drive so to speak. I had no pain and I found her touch to feel to immediately make me feel better. I feel much better within 24 hours. I have searched for others who practice this and have been unsuccessful. I wish others practiced this on the islands. Yes, sometimes I had to wait a lot longer than I would like and yes, sometimes the staff may not have been in the best mood; but I was there for back relief. I found Dr Gesik to be a lovely caring woman and Dr. I would go to in the future if needed. I live between the mainland and Hawaii so was unable to see her as often as I would like to have. I saw a total of 7 different types of doctors and she was the only one who helped me. I believe had I seen her regularly, I would have healed sooner. Glad to say I am 90% better. Dr. Gesik is a brilliant and caring doctor. I see her for sports injuries, internal medicine, and for optimizing my health. My husband, local friends, and family also see her. We even have friends from Cali who see her when they are here visiting because she is the one who could solve their health and injury issues. I am a neuroscientist and think critically about medicine and she is on the leading edge, staying up to date with an open mind and connection to research. Her staff is also helpful and kind. As is often the case with doctors who give you their devoted attention and thorough consideration, you may have to wait if she is running late, but it is so worth it. Regarding costs, she is a doctor covered by insurance and has regular hospital privileges, but she does recommend assorted supplements and tests that may not be covered by insurance. That problem is something that needs to change with our insurance in U.S. It is not about her doing something wrong. She has supplements for sale at her office not to make money but to make them available to patients at her cost so you don't have to go find them on your own. I went to her office for the first time. They kept me wait in very cold room for over 30 minutes after all of the paper work. Receptionist was rude when I asked my appointment time after waited so long. She goes, " I do not know." She put me in the Doctor's room. Doctor finally came in saying. "You were rode to my staff." Huh? I wanted to say your staff was rude. Wow. Doctor and staff teamed up and put me down. Doctor had no ear to listen to both side. I never experienced such a treatment as patient from Doctor and their employees . Another surprise was MS. I have been to doctor Gesik for many different treatments. Arm nerve pain, back pain during pregnancy and a severe skin rash. I have spoken with her about several health concerns as well. I'd like to point out that she will always take the time to answer all of your questions with care so if you're waiting longer than you'd like to see her, just know that she will give you all the time in the world once she's with you. The reason her costs seem high is only because insurance companies don't cover what she offers. But what she offers works more quickly than what insurance tends to cover and in my opinion this costs less in the long run. She is a very well informed doctor and shares very useful information about specific health issues as well as lifestyle. I know multiple people who have gone to her and she's been able to solve many problems for them as well as prevent further health issues. I wish more doctors knew and cared as much as her. read more

I saw Dr Gesik 8 or 9 times to treat chronic hip and lower back inflammation. I've seen chiropractors, physical therapists and sports massage clinics to treat my chronic hip flexor inflammation and went with my primary doctors recommendAtion to try an orthopedic doctor. Dr gesik was frequently 15-20 minutes late to many of my appointments RSS and worked on me about 15-20 minutes each time. She said she was trying to "reboot" my system with some general stretches and pulling/prodding on my legs. After about 8 sessions she said she had done all She could do, indicating that she had improved my symptoms and "rebooted" my system.
