I had dinner at Raso's last night, here are a few things to consider: The BEST Turkey tips I've ever had in my whole life, was at Raso's last night, so i have to give a 5 for the food. CONS: The place was NOT very clean, there was some paper laying around on the floor, even on the booth where i was seated. They didn't give me a Steak knife for my dinner, or anything sharp at all, so I had to eat the turkey tips (which were huge, and incredible btw) with a knife that was dull. I would still recommend this place, maybe because it was a Monday night they didn't have enough staff, so that could be why the place was a little dirty, but the food was incredible. This place looks really shady from the outside, mostly because it's in a commercial section of town, with friendly neighbors such as Enterprise Rent-a-car. But scoot on in the door, past the bar full of Italian Stallions, and you'll find yourself at a table with friendly but not overfriendly service, dipping some bread into a plate full of seasoned olive oil. Yum! I've been here twice, and all the food (mine and all of my companions') was delicious. Special pork chop with mashed potato and green beans was a perfectly seasoned hearty winter meal. The pizza had a crisp crust and good amount of cheese and topping. The baked penne's wilted spinach topping was even better as leftovers the next day. Serving sizes are large, so take some home. The decor is simple: earth tone walls, dark wood tables. A few pieces of art on the walls. I've had a gift card to here for about 3 years. Just because I don't live anywhere near here any longer is not reason to go here. If that sentence does not make sense either does going here to eat. Stopped on a rainy Saturday afternoon with a very pregnant wife and a buddy for lunch. No beers on tap, the bartender commented on how everyone looks around for the tap selection. Maybe that means you should install at tap system. Poor selection of bottles, most local beer was Harpoon. We ordered the calamari to start, nothing special served with a side of mayo. I realize that I didn't read the menu left the ordering up to the lady, but who serves a dish like that with anything but a red sauce. MAYO. ohh well Ordered two pizzas one red one white. I think they forgot that they had gotten them delivered. Took about 30 minutes for our pizzas to come out. Which would not have been a big deal if they came out crispy and wonderful. They did not. They came out greasy and chewy. About a whole pizza was boxed up and taken home, not by me. I love pizza even mediocre pizza, this was not even that. There was a painting party that took over the majority of the dining room and when we walked in a couple of the bar tables had reserved signs on them. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and I thought it was a great neighborhood spot! The atmosphere was very clean, cozy, and inviting. The food was delicious and exactly what I was in the mood for! It is tasty Classic Italian American comfort food. The burrata appetizer I had really went above and beyond I must say. This place is sooo good! You'd never notice it if you weren't looking for it-it is a hidden gem! Awesome food and very friendly bartenders. Good mix of older and younger crowd in the bar area. I had the steak tips (cooked perfectly!) and my husband had the chicken parm. Both were delish!! Very fresh. Definitely try their famous espresso martini! Decent restaurant right in the heart of Medford. I got the baked haddock it was decent however the portion of fish was pretty small, it comes with two sides and the portions of those were generous. Great sweet potato fries. Our server was a young gentleman who was great! Full bar, decent wine selection. My family got pasta dishes and all reported that it wasn't amazing but was good. It doesn't look like much passing by but it has always been packed so we were dying to try! For the most part we loved our experience and will definitely be back. We made a reservation and were seated at the bar facing the street. Not much to look at but made us feel secure. Ordered drinks and appetizers. Five stars for the cocktails! One of the best Italian restaurants in Boston if not the best, easily the greatest Italian spot in greater Boston. Food is priced excellently and portions are huge. Whatever you get here you'll enjoy. Tripe is an old family recipe, extremely authentic. Pizzas are incredible. Steak is cheap for what you get. Huge, delicious and a great cut of meat. The owner Rich Raso is so personable and knows everyone. He's an all around incredible guy. Outdoor seating is fantastic in the summer, I had my graduation party their last year and the catering is also suburb. Bar is always packed and the drinks are poured heavy! Definitely a place where the local paesani hang out. If you don't have a vowel at the end of your name your opinion doesn't matter! Great lively atmosphere. They have a lot of very friendly regulars at the bar. A very reasonable dinner menu and fantastic martini's. Good value for your money. The staff is very attentive. Honestly very confused and puzzled at the good ratings on here and open table... Food: Antipasti was dry with no dressing and greens were wilting, I get chicken parm everywhere and always enjoy it but the chicken parm was extremely disappointing (better at the 99 and it's only $10 there!) I had to stop eating, it just wasn't good. Ambiance: the place was FREEZING. They blasted the ac and its an issues when my sister said you can feel my goosebumps through my sweater. It was also extremely dark. Service: was okay. Our waiter was nice but came over for our order, the check, never a drink refill, and didn't see him again. Took exactly 44 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our food. I think he forgot out order. That's just way too long. Maybe it was a bad day for this place? Anyone who has ever wanted to witness a microcosm of Medford, all in one place (young guys with chains, old italian couples, women in their late 40s with fake tans and a hard pack of Newport 100's at the ready and a handful of young families and Tufts students with their parents) this is the place to do it. While the clientele is interesting, it's the food that makes the visit truly worthwhile. After seeing this place and driving by it a half dozen times, we decided to try it out on a Friday night, on a whim. Arriving around 8PM, there was a bit of a wait, however, we had a table in 8-10 minutes. We were ravenous and the list of choices made the decision a bit difficult, we ultimately decided on a grill special and a pizza, to get a sense of the range of the place. Lamb tips and baby back ribs were amazing, the lamb was ordered medium-rare and cooked PERFECTLY, which is tough to do right and is one of the reasons I almost never order lamb out. The baby backs, a bit dry, were LOADED with meat. I am not sure I've ever seen ribs this meaty, with a sweet sauce on them and the whole thing complimented by perfectly done fries (mashed, rice, or veg are the alternative options.) The pizza was even better, light, thin crust with tangy cheese and delicious meat toppings (we ordered the Reginaldo and highly recommend it.) The fact that this place still does it up old-school with the salad first, a huge plate of bread with delicious dipping oil to start doesn't hurt either. Drink menu has a bunch of "martinis" many of which were being consumed by the aforementioned fake-n-bakers. Martini glasses of bright blue, orange, and pink cocktails lined the tables in the bar area and I'm sure all of them were as teeth-rottingly sweet as the Mandatini we ordered. At $7.50, you can't go wrong and can always order the real thing. Yes, this is a four star review and, at the outset of writing it, I had to consider my reasoning for it, as I was thinking about this, my dining companion pointed out, "I have a hard time finding what's wrong with the place.' I agree, and hence, five stars minus one since we've only been once and will have to try again to see if we had beginners luck. We'll absolutely be back to find out, and soon! read more

Five Star Pizza!! - But Four Stars for now until I have the full experience. I love, love, love the pizza at Raso's, so much so that I've yet to try anything else there. I also haven't eaten inside yet, but my little cousin is having his confirmation party there soon, so perhaps I'll update after that experience. As for the take out and the pizza: excellent. It's obviously a popular place because it's as packed there on a Monday as it is on a Friday. The employees I have dealt with have been friendly though perhaps a little frazzled from how busy it is. The pizza has a nice thin crust and the red sauce is unique and flavorful. The white pizzas are also great. I'm a huge fan of the Bella Ragazze which is a garlic cream sauce instead of red sauce with romano and caramelized onions. It's even good left over, which I normally hate. So, perhaps you don't like a crowd or having to wait a bit because of how busy it is, in which case I would say, go to their web site and take advantage of the take out. My ONLY critique of this place thus far is that some nights I go in and have to deal with less than classy clientelle in the bar area. We are from middletown ct and were in Medford this past weekend for a boys soccer turnament and stumbled upon this restaurant. They were extremely accommodating for a group of 27. The waiters were the best I've had in a long time. The drinks were so good. The food was very authentic Italian. Fresh pasta and cooked to perfect. Ordered a pizza for takeout here on a Saturday night. There was a little confusion about us wanting to place an order for takeout, but the hostess, once she understood, was happy to oblige. This was my 2nd time eating here. While the food was great both times the service tonight was very disappointing. Our server Sean took our order for food which was served to us by the busboy. Now, you would tend to think that talking to them on a weds and then your party is the sat at the end of the week, that they would get the day right? WRONG! They scheduled my party for the day before....The kid that I talked to when I got there, looked at me like I was gonna hit him with a car because I asked him questions...all he could answer was "well um, can you wait 45mins?" I was surprised to see all the positive reviews here - I guess our bad experience may have been a fluke, but I wouldn't return to test that theory! We arrived last night with a party of five adults and two children. We were seated quickly and our drink and appetizer orders were taken. It took probably half an hour to get our first appetizers, which were good. We shared the calamari and the garlic bread, both of which tasted great. We had also ordered mozzerella sticks which were never brought. We all kind of dived into what we had so we didn't really care at that point. The server then took our dinner orders Then we waited, and waited, and WAITED. It was an hour and a half from the time we sat down until the time we received our dinner. We had to send someone to go get the server to get us some more drinks. Everyone at the table had an empty glass and he had not once swung by the table to get us refills. The server was obviously uninterested and unwilling. Once I got my steak tips and turkey tips I was even more disappointed. The first sirloin tip I ate was good, but the next one I cut open (keep in mind - I ordered it WELL done) was RED. The other tip was edible (pink) but not how I wanted it. One of the turkey tips I cut open had a pink sheen to it and I was so afraid it was under cooked I didn't even eat it. The vegetables I had on the side were good (asparagus and spinach). I could have sent it back, but I was so hungry and tired of sitting there that I decided to let it go and not make a fuss. When we all finished, the server (who we hadn't seen since he brought the food) asked if we would like any of it boxed up. As he was taking both of our plates away we both said no, and my boyfriend mentioned to him about how my steak was supposed to be well done. He said, "oh ok." 5 minutes later he brought back my boyfriend's food in a container (which we had said we didn't want!). Upon getting our bill, we discovered that the mozzerella sticks we had ordered and never gotten were still on the bill. When a member of our party let the server know, he said "okay" and walked off to correct the bill. At no time did he ever apologize for a) not bringing the correct food, or b) charging us for food we didn't get. Either one would have been sufficient. On the way home my boyfriend realized that his meal was supposed to have included a lobster tail (not sure how he missed it until then!)... that he never got. I left hungry and amazed at the lack of service we had here. I might have understood if it was a busy night for them-- but it was a Monday night and half the tables were empty. Worse than poor service and inattentive cooks. After reading all the good reviews I'm really disappointed. read more
