Specializing in unique whiskey cocktails, this underground bar is worth a visit. I'm sure it's more popular after dinner, but we made a reservation for pre-dinner cocktails (recommend doing this since it's a small space). It's got dark, vampire den vibes. Servers were super nice. Be sure to read the house rules in the menu to be respectful (like limiting photos). I wish that our seats weren't in such an awkward place (next to shelves of whiskey bottles without a real table or bar), but overall, a unique spot that's a nice escape from the crowds. read more

We arrived a little late for our reservation and they made a big show of considering whether to let us in. Which is fair except that there were no other customers there! Then they made us sit at a tiny awkward table in the corner due to missing the reservation time. Again, this is while the entire room and all normal tables were empty. Only a couple of people arrived over the next hour. The atmosphere was very cool and the drinks were strong and delicious but 24 Euros each. Mixed experience for sure. We probably would have loved it and stayed longer had they just given us one of the many empty normal tables instead of punishing us for no reason. read more

Rasputin is the definition of quality over quantity. A bit difficult to find, but last time I was here was 2019 and I'm glad it lived through 2020. Currently, in 2022, the vibe is still the same. Classy and the highest of quality drinks to be made. In comparison to other bars, this is definitely one of the most expensive places to get cocktails in Florence at 20 EU a drink. However, the bartenders here take pride in every drink that come out of the bar. On entering the front door, you must ring a door bell. This definitely tests your patience as it takes more than a few minutes for the busy bartenders to come up the dark stairs to greet you and seat you. I would describe this place more like a dinning cocktail establishment rather than a "bar." You take a seat and relax as they come and get your order. We tried their white negroni, sentimental education, 20,000 leagues under the sea and old fashion. However, these drinks might not be here by the time you come here since they change often and update the cocktail list seasonally. Great cocktail once I got it. However, after a 30 min wait without having our order taken, watching a drunk bartender drop two drinks he was working on, and seeing the couple next to us being served a chipped glass, I had a sour taste in my mouth. The bartender in question seemed to take his leave after the aforementioned chipped glass round, and my wife and I ordered from another lovely woman working there. We had a classic Negroni, and their off menu house specialty (a riff on an aged white Negroni). Both were delicious, and the atmosphere was beautiful, but at €16-22 a drink it is tough to rationalize such questionable service. LOVED this bar. Anyone who has said anything about the rules is being dramatic. The rules literally are just there to preserve the experience (ex: don't walk around the bar clearly to not ruin the ambience, don't use flash for pics of the bar again to not ruin the ambience, etc). The aesthetics were BEAUTIFUL and the music was old jazz that really made you feel like you were in a hidden speakeasy. I felt like I went back in time in the best way. And the real red candles melting as you're drinking was stunning. Everything about this place was perfect, wish I had this place close to home. Also my drink was called "the queen of spades" which seemed like a more sophisticated whiskey sour and it was honestly one of the best drinks I've had in my life. An intimate setting with great ambience and great drinks. Therefore, a reservation is a good idea if you are on a tight traveling schedule, but want to guarantee you get the experience. Per recommendation of the other reviews, I sent a message through Facebook to get the location. For better or worse, they just sent the address. No clues to decipher, but it was still hard to find. If you have a reservation, you should plan on adding a little extra to the travel time to ensure you can locate it. It is definitely not the type of place you drop in for a quick drink. The drinks do take time, but they are well worth it. I had a seat at the bar, so I got to see the intensive effort that went into each. Pretty impressive and equally delicious. I had a lovely Scotch cocktail. I am not a Scotch person at all, but yes, I did say lovely. It was extremely smooth. The peatiness of the Scotch was not overwhelming, but also not covered up by the other flavors. My boyfriend is a huge Scotch lover, so if I do see a Scotch cocktail I always try. It is not often you see one, but I have tried a few. This was one was the best I have ever had. The cocktail craftmanship alone got my 5 stars! The decor and the vibe enhanced the experience. We went here before the pandemic and it was amazing! I was so happy to see they were still open this last week when we were traveling thru the area I booked a table for us in advance. My experience this time thru was a bit mixed. I'm a bourbon lover and they had several whisky drinks on the menu but most of them were scotch based. Scotch gives me a headache so I had to avoid those the other bourbon drinks sounded a bit too fruity so I thought I'll just stick with a classic manhattan or old fashioned. But I do love seeing what a bartender can do and especially at a great establishment like this I felt like asking if they could put a little twist on a manhattan. I remembered having a black manhattan recently that I loved so I asked if they had an amaro they could use to substitute it for the sweet vermouth or make something like a black manhattan. He agreed and said they had some frenet they could use... I should have stopped him right away at this point. Frenet is not your typical amaro it's bitter full of menthol and either you love it or hate it... I knew I didn't like it but I thought hey these guys know what they're doing let's see what they can do. Sometimes that pays off and I'm pleasantly surprised, this time it didn't... I should have known better and just gone with the standard classic. I didn't want it to ruin my drink experience so I ordered a double poor of their 10yr Whistle Pig... my wife's drink was awesome and she wanted me to be happy so I splurged a little and at least I knew what I was getting. I did enjoy it but the poor was very small, the did measure it and poor it in front of me but it just felt like I was getting jipped... lesson learned I know it's partially my fault but for having paid so much it left me a bit unsatisfied. They knew I didn't like the first drink I wish they'd have offered to fix it. Last time we came pre - pandemic they had served us a small welcome grappa or something and it felt like they were going the extra mile. I'm honestly not sure I'd recommend this place again. But I'm sure most people would be happy there as long as they know they're gonna pay $20 minimum per drink. Don't let them experiment just order from the menu or get a classic. If you can find it....go here!!! A local took us to this spot and I couldn't be more grateful for finding this spot. It's a speakeasy type, when you walk in there is a crucifix in the lobby and a note indicating to ring the bell. The lobby reminded me of being in grade school and walking into a church, it had an intense smell of frankincense and I loved it. Shortly after ringing the bell we were let inside and led down the stairs. Once inside I felt like I had been morphed into 1920, the music, the vibe, the waiters uniform, down fo the drinks. The bartender asked us what types of liquor / drinks we normally like and he came out with drinks based on that. We send a message on Facebook, eagerly awaiting clues to finding this speakeasy. An hour later we are sent clues, and must use our deductive skills to find its location. We walk along the streets, scrolling though every detail in hopes of finding the entrance. We finally do and get buzzed on in. We walk down and are served with a Negroni. We are given our menus and study the vast variety of drinks. After a few minutes we are served our well crafted drinks and beautifully presented drinks. We sit back in our intimate setting, and enjoy the ambiance, setting us back to Prohibition times. Speakeasy is nowadays a very well known way of opening fancy pubs around the world recalling those American '30s where alcohol was prohibited and people would gather in secret places for their night fun. This is why all the "new" blind pigs are given a vintagy look: dark wooden forniture, portraits of mysterious characters hanging on pale colored walls, calming low yellow lights, velvet sofas, all framed by elegant dressed and well behaved personnel.
