It IS cool! I learned to type on a manual typewriter like the ones they had on display in the office. Our room was great and I loved the firm bed. We got to know Mike and Brandy (the owners) over the five (5) days we stayed there. They are dedicated to ensuring your stay is great. This did not get a 5 star because of the breakfast situation today. My daughter and I went down at 8:25 knowing that breakfast hours we until 9:30. There was 1 cinnamon roll left in the container and I took it knowing more would come out with an hour left. Well that didn't happen. I even asked and saw several other people ask about more cinnamon rolls and biscuits and gravy and was told no there would not be more put out. I know one mom with small children was disappointed and then the muffins ran out too. If breakfast is posted until 9:30!then all items should be available until then. Or at least about 9:15 then start cutting it off. I think the employee wanted to get everything cleaned up and be out of there by 9:30.

Right when you walk in, you can feel the love the kind owners have put into this B&B. The breakfast is the BIG standout here! Gourmet and better than any luxury hotel out there- I mean, we were stunned plus the kids were happy! It's walkable to cute shops/restaurants in town, and the view is beautiful. Catch more views and a great hike at Capulin Volcano National Park just 30min away (get there before 4pm!). We will definitely return next time we're in Raton!

Overall, really unique stay and I would recommend. I'm happy they're pet friendly and only charge a $20 fee. The backyard was great for my pup to play around.

Well one thing let to another I'm wasted. Need a place to rest my head. Saw this beautiful neon sign that said Maverick Motel. I'm a huge fan of Top Gun and so I immediately knew that was the place. Boy was I not disappointed. The rooms were all remodeled the bathrooms were very clean and the lady I went home with that night said it was the best night sleep she has had in years. For it being almost 10pm she was in a great mood! :) They were doing a lot of construction which was an eye sore but maybe it will improve the outdated style. The room was basic. Bed, shower and couch. On a cleanliness factor it was around a 6.5/7. There were stains on the floor and a few dust piles but nothing obscene. It did the job while we slept for a few hours. It seemed to be basically empty with a few other cars in the lot, so we didn't hear anyone. It did seem a little run down when it came to the broken laundry food, and the vending machine rooms being fairly empty. Enjoyed the fact that they had a continental breakfast. It had some juice options, waffle maker, fruit yogurt, coffee, bagels and toast. Wish they did have something with protein like hard boiled eggs, a tea option would be nice too, but it did the trick. Overall, 3.5/5 stars. I wouldn't choose to stay here for more than a night maybe two but in a pinch it all worked out.

The manager of a hotel chain in the area was constrained by corporate policies and couldn't help. Even so, she recommended I speak with the owner of the nearby Robin Hood Motel. That quick referral to a friendly competitor said so much about the values of the City of Raton and the collegiality among the region's business owners. I felt relieved and reached out as suggested to the Robin Hood Motel's owner. The owner came up with an especially affordable rate for the off-season months. I feel utterly relieved to know this housing option is available not only for me but also for others who may join the regional workforce.
