Rattlesnake Ready is a super company run by a nice couple who really know what they are doing. I have had other dogs snake trained at a different facility, and this is by far a much better and comprehensive experience for the owner and pup. At the other snake training facility, I was separated from my dogs and heard them yelp loudly multiple times as they were walked up to cages that contained snakes and collar-shocked. My dogs came back visibly shaken. I mentioned this to Cody, and he said at Rattlesnake Ready they try to train the animals without traumatizing them. His technique is gentler which is much appreciated by both pup and owner. Also, rather than simply having the snakes in cages during the training for the dogs to investigate, at Rattlesnake Ready the snakes are loose with their jaws effectively secured shut allowing for a more natural training environment. Additionally, Cody provides the dog training for both rattlesnake scent and sound, very important for pups who like to stick their heads in bushes or wherever. From email with details on entering the property, to a kind greeting in a very organized space, I knew this was legitimate. Our pup was outfitted with a voltage collar, and brought out to the "Snake Park" to explore. We started just as advertised: a muzzled juvenile rattler placed to allow for curiosity to draw the dog close. Once near, with the rattle audible, our dog was quickly made aware to go no closer. Shifting from creature to shed skin, our dog was brought downwind to find the smell and look of the skin. Another round of reinforcing that this situation must be avoided. Last, a large rattler was put near the gate where we entered the "Snake Park" and we watched as our dog gave plenty of distance between himself and this adult rattlesnake. Once the rattle started, we were instructed to run to the opposite gate. Incredible, professional, and palpable results within 30mins. I prefer having the experience on the property. I liked the various ways the dogs were exposed to live snakes, scent and sound I have terriers who of course want to hunt everything that moves. They 100% do not want anything to do with rattlers now. My mini schnauzer shrieked when she found the scent of the skin- no cottection needed! I can't say enough about the quality of Cody's training - IT WORKS! My GSP, Piper, is an off-lease free roaming desert dog for our daily walks in the South Mountain area (she wouldn't have it any other way). Today we had another successful snake encounter; it's the fifth encounter that I know of since our initial training three years ago. In past encounters I've typically seen the snake sunning on the trail. Today I noticed Piper take a wide berth around a bush without slowing down. That should have been my first warning. My second warning was the angry rattle as I got nearer to the bush - I never saw the snake. I'm sure Piper has avoided others in her travels through the brush. read more

I can't s ay enough amazing things about Cody & Kate and this necessary training , in my opinion, for any dog that lives as much in the desert as our pup is with us. Complete transparency, I did not know that such a thing existed until our amazing vet at Pima North brought it up to me at a visit when our pup was about 6 months old; she knows where we live and that we are out on the trails very near our home with our pup frequently. Our home is also set along mountains and preserve and with natural habitat comes natural beings that can hurt us and our pets if we don't know how to avoid them. My vet did advise me to wait until our pup was a year old. Our pup has done board and train with a great place that offers this type of training in a group setting but we wanted something more private and when Rattlesnake Ready was the name that our vet gave us, we decided to go with her recommendation. Our friends who live in our neighborhood also recommended Rattlesnake Ready after their dog had 'failed' another 'group' rattlesnake training. OF course my husband and I had to know what that meant. WELL, a lot of rattlesnake training is done in group settings.. THAT isn't a 'bad thing', as any training is better than NO training. BUT, rattlesnake training is intense enough without other animals throwing the dog's attention off, at least that is how we felt. Rattlesnake Ready has training options that are geared for the comfort of you and your pet. They will do private training in your home, ( so that the training is more based to what your dog is around on the daily) or at their facility in Cave Creek. They are booked solid! We did want the private training at our home, again as we live right in the preserve and felt it best for our dog to know how to avoid a snake should one venture into our yard .. but we also wanted her trained sooner rather than later, so we opted for training at the facility, we found this was also done privately with just our dog. I had ALOT of questions prior to the training date and Kate answered them all and directed me to the link on their page with videos. Live snakes are used for training. The snakes are what we live amongst in our area here in our desert-Here are Rattlesnake Ready -they are live rattlesnakes and they are muzzled. Cody Will does the training. The facility is set up like a park like desert area in which you sort of 'mimic' a hike/walk with your pet after he or she gets used to the environment following some paperwork in the office. Cody got to know our dog and us and then asked that we walk and play with her in the natural area so that we don't just jolt her into a shocking snake training. A few moments later when our dog had settled in with the area , Cody then used a 'baby' rattle snake along with an E-collar on our Bernedoodle and when she noticed the snake and went close to it and it rattled LOUDLY.. she pulled back hard. The next phase was to mimic the walk again in a different area of the 'yard' and have our girl sniff out a fresh snake skin. AGAIN, she knew this was bad. It was all in all about a 45 minute training session and at the end our dog knows to not go near the sound or smell of this snake. Look, we live, hike, run, walk in the environment of these species that were here before us and it's best we know how to deal with them should we encounter them on a trail or goodness forbid ... OUR yard, etc. THIS is NO guarantee our dog won't put her snoot in a hidey hole on a trail and get bit. What I do think from this training is she will know what to avoid by way of scent ; sound and sight. Hence why this is called - 'rattlesnake avoidance' training. We also learned a thing or two about the Sonoran Frog and the danger of that, as well. We will defineately be back for the refresher training in a year. THE one thing is the 'rattle' sound trained our dog so well .. SHE won't walk to the part of the yard that has the pool pump when it's running , as it makes a 'clicking rattle' sound. NOPE. She's not having it. We have had our dog out on the trails since this training and twice since the training two weeks ago, she shot back hard from two places on the trail. Good job! This training, we felt, was necessary in our life, as our pet is part of our family and keeping her as safe as possible is part of our responsibility as good 'pawrents' ! read more

I did the training about 5 months ago now with my dog after having moved down to Arizona. The trainers were great. I'll admit at first after leaving I was wondering if my pooch was more shell shocked by the shock collar or if she learned something from the training as during the final piece of training she wanted nothing to do with anything and basically froze in place. Fast-forward to last night....Was out in the back yard letting the dog out before going to bed. It was at night, fairly windy, and some distance lightning and thunder with a storm blowing in so a lot of distractions going on. The pooch was sniffing around the edge of the property and all of a sudden came the loud rattle of a rattlesnake. She immediately jumped back and came barreling to me and the door inside. I was shocked. I had hoped the training worked but it's pretty difficult to tell in the initial training and without running into a snake in the wild. And this wasn't a "being startled" by an unknown sound thing. She's a big, very forward dog. The sound of the rattle didn't phase her at all initially at the training. I can say, unequivocally that the training works. You will probably be like me and wonder (as you drag your shell-shocked dog out of training) was it just the shock collar or was something actually learned. We did the training at our home in Cave Creek. Cody with RR is very professional and careful. Before we started he gave us a detailed orientation of what to expect and how the training works. Within minutes our 11 y.o. retriever went from "interested" in that buzzing small hooded rattler to "adverse". After additional hooded live rattlers training, plus scent training and sound training placed in different areas, my sweet pup was 100% trained to recognize by sight sound and smell. It upped my husbands and my awareness too. Because my sweet boy is older it was important to me that the shock collar use be as light a shock as possible to get the job done. Cody was very sensitive to that and we feel reassured that for the safety of our dog that he is trained as much as he can be.
