I was really excited to get started with this firm. Josh Ray was great on the phone and Brian Huber during an initial meeting was terrific. The first month was great and they fixed all sorts of issues in my books. I felt I had found a firm who could handle my three businesses and personal taxes. They get five stars for the first month they worked with me and one or two stars for all subsequent months. I am being generous in awarding them a three star review. I actually want to give them one star, but I do not like to harm small businesses. Around the time Covid hit, things became challenging. Exchanged emails didn't seem to address the specific questions I was asking. Getting any help whatsoever for PPP loans was impossible. Brian would send me the same data sheets from the SBA as I had already seen and sent to him. I was later told that they don't get paid for helping, so they don't really want to do it. That would've been helpful to know at the beginning. Regardless, I have spent well over $10,000 with this company, and I think helping me get the books together for the PPP Applications would have been a great value add. Brian kept sending me emails telling me how to run reports and do it myself. None of my colleagues had to do the amount of work that I did for this application. In fact, as I received information from my bank and the federal government, I forwarded it to Brian. I suggested that they create a value add for their business clients by incorporating some of this information. I was more on top of it than the CPA firm was. I had no idea I would be charged for giving them information to help guide them. I was still willing to excuse that. I had recommended that we put in the books the specific notes payable between the corporations. I wanted monthly invoices and payables to keep track of what each business was actually able to pay and where they were in arrears. I was told that this was not necessary and a total amount due was fine. Some of the payables were input, and some of them were not? They also insisted that my company health insurance program not be itemized in payroll. This is because an owner cannot deduct their own health insurance. However, when it came time for PPP, this was a disaster and virtually impossible to figure out what was paid towards health insurance. Again, Brian sent me an email telling me how to run reports to figure out the total paid to Blue Cross Blue Shield. I just needed a number for the application. Not an assignment. It would've taken him less time to run the report and give me the number and just send me an email with detailed instructions on how I can run a report to get that same number. Isn't that why you have a CPA? Still, I gave latitude and contacted Josh Ray, who referred me to someone else at the firm to help with the PPP loans. They totally messed up my franchise tax returns. I had sent them the renditions from 2018 as a template and their 2019 renditions did not match up at all. That has taken me another five hours to resolve on my own. Additionally, when they sent me the renditions, they omitted page 1 and two. When I asked for a complete copy of the franchise tax form, Brian told me to look it up and find it in the 8820s. Those forms are about 80 pages. My job to sift through and find the report that should've been sent to me originally, imported into Acrobat, pull out the three pages and export so I have an actual franchise tax form report took me another two hours. The report should've simply been sent to me complete in the first place and when it was not, they should've just sent the file as I asked. Instead, three emails back-and-forth were exchanged explaining to me how and where to find that report on my own. When I looked at income on the P&L for purposes of the property tax rendition, I saw $14,000 in voided checks. I have no voided checks, but again, I was charged for Brian to explain to me that they categorized something as a voided check that didn't match up from 2018. Regardless, it was not income, but now it creates an income line for tax purposes. This has still not been corrected. In fact, I have sent in two emails asking for this to be amended and nothing has happened. I have three outstanding invoices that I have not paid yet because I'm still working my tail off trying to fix the errors. I wrote today in looking at one of them with 3.25 hours billed for Brian to research why he did not receive my QuickBooks files. I had shown proof that they were sent and he only opened one of them. He stated that he needed to go through all three companies and find out all the dates that accountants copies were sent, received, and returned. This seems like insane billing for an error that they made. But most notably, today when I sent an email asking about those hours, Brian sent back an email saying he has some really important information to give me but he's waiting until the invoices are paid. read more

Use Ray, CPA at your own peril. And you'd better check his work before signing anything prepared by his office. The customer service is not good at all. If he sets a time for a tel-conference with you do not be surprised if he decides something else is more important. If you send an email do not be expecting a response - I had to wait a week w/o a response which probably would never have come. Unfortunately for me - I got a letter from the IRS saying I owed an additional $2400 and I did not even get an apology and received absolutely no assistance from Roger. I had to resolve the situation alone as he shifted blame to me because I signed off on his incorrect return. He would not own the mistake. It's my opinion that this company is unprofessional, and in my case unreliable. After having been paid Roger disappeared like Casper the ghost. read more

If there was less than one star I would have given that. Please please read the Yelp reviews before considering using this tax agency. This firm is NOT knowledgeable in preparing tax returns and only cares about collecting on their invoices that they bill you without clear communication on how much their services will be. Our questions were not answered prior to them beginning work on our tax returns and the bill we received was astronomical. Additionally, our returns were not done correctly. We had to constantly coach them on what information to fill out. Please do your taxes yourself using turbo tax-guarantee you will do a better job and won't have to pay hundreds of dollars for it read more

I've been lucky enough to work with Brian and Ray for a few years now and am always really happy with their services. I was especially pleased with them when I started a new company and we chose to use a non-traditional accounting system called Xero that was a better fit for our company size. Although Josh noted that he was more familiar with Quickbooks than Xero, they were happy to work with us on developing our system and even synced us up with their Xero expert and offered to have her walk us through the system and answer any questions. While we have a bookkeeper to take care of the day to day, Josh and Brian are always available for any specific questions regarding our system. My dedicated tax agent, Brian, is always more than helpful when I have any questions and will make the long drive into Austin for 1:1 chats when needed so I'm not driving up to Round Rock. He is not only very experienced in what he does but he also seems to thoroughly enjoy it and is just a genuinely good person who won't steer you wrong. These folks spent more time trying to do something, then completing the task. Billing was messy, at best. The development of a comprehensive accounting strategy, seems to evade their expertise. The last thing you want to feel, when dealing with any vendor, is ripped off. I went back and did my taxes, on my own, and for about 50.00 bucks (accounting software), I was able to accomplish, in about two hours, what they billed me for 15hrs. What a waste. I used them for my 2014 taxes and was very unhappy with them. My stuff was very easy to file but I was in a rush due to family issues, buy they managed to have an extension filed. They did not even asked me for my child daycare expenses which would have made me pay less taxes. I have never owed so much money to the IRS in my life than in 2014 even though I was unemployed for part of the year!!! Oh and the IRS came back to me later asking me for more! I highly recommend Vicki at Ray CPA. She did a great job with my taxes, answered many of my questions and asked me about items I hadn't even thought of. The 2 years prior I had used another CPA in Round Rock and was very disappointed with their lack of client service. Ray CPA allowed me to meet with them (met with the owner) last summer for a consult at no charge, and when my taxes were completed by Vicki this year I was able to meet with her in person to go over them and ask additional questions not only about my return, but also about next year... again at no charge. The price for doing my taxes was higher than what I had paid for my previous CPA, but you get what you pay for and I feel it was fair. Just like with anything don't go for the cheapest, or the highest, but find somewhere in the middle (my husband and I learned that when shopping for home contractors). Additionally, my tax preparation may have cost more this year b/c I have my first kid in college so that's more paperwork. I really appreciated the personal service that this company provided.
