excellent company! more than competitive price wise, came out very quickly, installed our new furnace and air conditioner properly and also very quickly, totally cleaned up in and out so you couldn't even tell that anyone had been there. the only issue I had was that I didn't really like the first thermostat that they installed as part of the package so they gave me the choice of several other thermostats that they carried (in my opinion i would like better) for just a little more money but was a good price, had more features and didn't even charge me to swap it out with the original one. Talk about GREAT customer service!!! I'll definitely make them my only stop if and when this Bryant ever wears out (it has quite a long warranty). We just bought a new house and we're having issues with the thermostat. No matter what we set it at, the AC will not shut off. So when we wake up in the morning it's 50 some degrees. My husband wanted to install the Nest thermostat, which we had at our previous home. This house didn't have the right wiring, so we wanted someone to check out the AC and install the Nest for us. I saw this company had great reviews, so we called. It was the weekend, so we got the after hours staff. They said weekends are only for emergencies and someone would call us on Monday. No one called Monday, so my husband tried on Tuesday. He left another message. Nothing. He tried one last time on Thursday, was out on hold and the line was disconnected. He called again and was finally put through. The guy told my husband he wasn't "interested" in our business and had no desire to install a Nest. He said he's too busy and maybe try again in the fall. I get that they are busy with this terrible heat, but 1. You could've returned our messages. 2. You could've just said you were busy and would have to schedule out pretty far. What business isn't "interested" in making money? His response was very rude. No way we will try again in the fall. The first company I used sent a tech out who said the furnace needed to be replaced, and gave me a quote, but said he "jiggled a wire" and got it running again for the time being. When it went out again the other day, I called Ray N. Welter. Their tech, Ralph, fixed the problem in half an hour. He told me the furnace is pretty old, but his fix should get me through the winter "and maybe a couple more," and then gave me a quote that was lower than the first company. Today I called RW and got a person on the phone that knows about furnaces and he dispatched a service person Phil within 2 hours. I called them based on personal refer and reviews. They are excellent. Despite having a very old furnace it was the second time that this company said I did not need to replace. If I did replace it I want a Trane and RW would do to the work. For now I will call them for fall/spring tune ups and love that they don't have the club memberships etc. Just good solid customer service for all customers. A really ++ experience. My basement bathroom never had heat ducting installed to it and was very cold in the winter. I called Ray N. Welter Heating Company and scheduled Rick Welter for a quote. Rick was very knowledgeable and gave me a very fair quote for the ducting work to my bathroom. I also asked Rick what he thought of my current HVAC system and how many more years I could expect out of it. He felt the system was a little old but that it would be just fine for a few more years. Rick was also able to give me a ballpark quote for what I could expect if I decided to replace my entire HVAC system. He said it was always good to know what total replacement would cost ahead of any possible catastrophic occurrences. This way, if you lose your heater in the middle of winter, you don't pay $8k for a heater you could have had installed for $3.5k because you were in a hurry to just get it fixed. My ducting was installed without issue and in a timely manner. I was even able to work with the installer on the routing of the ducting so as to keep the storage area where the ducting was being routed as accessible as possible. I would highly recommend Ray N. Can't say enough about this company. Our furnace wasn't blowing out any heat and of course this happened when it was minus degrees outside, so we had quite the cold house all night. The next morning I called a different company and was on hold for ten minutes, I finally hung up and called Welter Ray next and thankfully they answered right away. Installed a new Trane furnace and AC system. Told me when the took my payment that it would take only one day. Installer (only one sent for all the work needed) told me at noon it would take the second day. I called the shop and they sent out a second person to finish up. They agreed to connect my humidifier, they only partially did it. System was not fully tested when they left. Airflow was never checked. There is not enough air flow to move the cold air, it sits in the lower levels. I asked about them connecting the humidifier and setting the fan higher, they would do it, but would charge me for the service. I spent over $7 grand and they want to charge me to set it up right? I was able to do the additional work myself. read more

I almost gave four stars on the review due to a tech who promised to be here yesterday between 9 and noon didn't show and did not call until 12:20 to let us know they were not going to make it because of bad weather. [which we had all day] However, today's technician was very prompt knowledgeable and professional. He called this morning and showed up on time to repair our A/C. There was a simple fix to our issue which involved cleaning coils, resetting the unit and what not... He had the right tools for the job with him and he checked over the whole system. He explained what he was doing as he worked and discussed with us how to maintain our unit going forward which I really appreciate. I recommend this company. My furnace went out. I called Ray Welter late on a Friday Morning and was told they had an opening the following thursday. I said this was fine, A space heater in would suffice until then. At my request that let me talk to a service tech so I could ask if there were any simple trouble shooting we could do on the phone. The guy on the phone gave it a friendly and reasonable shot but that didn't solve the problem. He transferred me back to scheduling who had now found an opening in there schedule for Wednesday instead of Thursday. I agreed. A half hour later I noticed that I had missed a call from them, they found one of there techs could could fit me in in a couple of hours . I called back, said yes and the tech called me when he was on the way and showed up soon after. Lucky for me the problem was fairly simple. My inducer motor wasn't spinning freely on it's bearings. The tech ( Ralph) said these units are not supposed to need oiling but he thought it was worth a try. He said it could still fail again tomorrow or be fine for a long time. He took it out oiled it and now it works fine. At my request he called to get the part # for the inducer and gave it to me in case I need to order another one. He also showed me where he oiled it and told me what kind of oil to use. Had I known this stuff before I could have easily done the job myself and saved the 150$ Here's what I like about them : They were proactive about getting here as quickly as they could even after I told them this wasn't an emergency and I was fine with waiting. They tried a simple fix instead of automatically insisting the inducer be replaced. Ralph walked me through how to do do this myself in case I need to. The Furnace was made in 1999 so who knows how long it will last but I sure like a company that makes a good effort to find quick and reasonable solutions. I also like that they are willing to give me the information I need to find an affordable for myself. I seen plenty of companies and techs who charge a lot but aren't as helpful and practical as these guys. I certainly don't intend to try major furnace repair myself. I'm a fan for life. I was really bummed to have a tech from another unnamed heating/cooling place come to our place not once but twice in a month. First time for a tune up/check (only to tell me that there were no critical updates, but a few options to make my AC unit more efficient. Cheapest "fix" he gave me was over 500 bucks). A few weeks later, the AC unit starts making terrifying noises. Different tech from same aforementioned place comes out (charging another 90 bucks for a visit). Tells me there are "no viable repairs" for the old unit (it's 28 yrs old and not worth fixing...why didn't the first guy tell me that??), it's not safe to be running it, and I should replace it. Quotes out a basic, mid level, and high end unit - cheapest option being over 5K. I did a little google searching and found that median price for replacing an AC unit in my zipcode is between 3-5K (what? And I dont' have a huge house. SURELY I can't be on the tippy top end of that scale). I decided to bid out the services by calling a few places. Ray Welter responded quickly, had someone out the very next day to look at the current set up and bid out the project. They came in over 2K cheaper on the mid level unit than the other company FOR A BETTER UNIT. What?! Loved the professionalism of the sales person, and loved that everything was crystal clear for pricing. He even told me it probably wasn't worth getting the high end unit -- he'd recommend the basic or mid for my size house (that's what he would do). We got an additional 10% off for paying by check plus a mail in rebate for the SEER efficiency from the electric company. We had a brand new AC unit installed and humming away by the following Monday (when the 90+ degree weather hit!). All in all - I trust Ray Welter. They are honest, efficient, respectful of my time, and thorough. When I challenged the first company on their pricing, they told me you get what you pay for. I guess that's true. Based on the good Yelp reviews, I called Ray Welter Heating and Cooling to come out for an estimate on a new central air unit because our older unit had a leak and the repair, as well as replacing the R-22 refrigerant, was becoming cost prohibitive. Ray Welter sent a salesman Todd to give us an estimate on a replacement. He discovered that they weren't able to replace the coils due to the brand and size of our current unit, and he didn't try to sell us into replacing unnecessary parts. He was honest and professional. Even though he couldn't sell us anything, he still came outside to take a look at our outdoor unit. He got us setup with a bit more Freon to get the house cooled while we figure out next steps. They sent at least three guys to install and test my AC and they were forthcoming about information and updates. They got the work done quickly, too, like half a day. I worked with Rick Welter regarding the estimate, sizing of the AC and payment and all went very smoothly, on down to getting the rebate with Xcel Energy figured out. No complaints, and I know if I do have one they'll come out and fix it. It was forecasted to be the hottest day of the year and I awoke to find my ac unit not working. Would not turn on at all. I called and was told they were booked solid till Monday. I booked Monday and provided my address. It do happens that they had a technician in the area and that he may be able to squeeze a few minutes to see my unit. I didn't know if it would happen or not but then an hour later I received a call and the tech arrived. Ralph checked my unit and quickly discovered my capacitor was bad. He went back to his truck, got a new one, plugged it in and I was back in business! Ralph also showed me how to clean off the interior coils so that runs more efficiently. Total professionals. No star! Called company to check ac. Fan not running. Tech came out to check it out; paid $120 for him to tell me motor was out. Only checked the capacitor and determined it was good. Not sure how he could reach conclusion. Wrote me quote of $2500 to replace. Got a universal motor to put in myself but it did not fix. Got lucky my friend was visiting and is Heating and ac tech. He checked it out and fixed it in 5 minutes; bypassed bad sensor. So I bought motor which I did not need and paid $120 for false bad diagnosis. Company refused to refund just my service fee. Tried to sell me new unit when old was fixable. Their logic was I should have had them fix it and they would have eventually found the problem but at what cost! I didn't know at that point what was wrong so I could make an informed decision. Scary. They did not even consider it fixable and just assumed it needed replacement. Company offered service credit but I can now do it myself. Seems to me the right thing for them to do is acknowledge a lack of complete and accurate evaluation and refund. Disappointment! Lesson learned don't give up on old unit and get second or third opinion. read more

Out of the five, the guy who came out from Ray N. Welter was the most helpful. He even insisted that we didn't need the more expensive cooling unit because my house wasn't that big so it wouldn't take that much to heat and cool it. One of the other companies that came out showed us their most expensive units first, and my husband felt like that person was more of a salesman than someone who actually knew what we needed. Ray N. Our south Minneapolis story and one half was built in 1927 with a 30 year old failing forced air furnace and slightly newer central a/c unit. We contacted several heating and a/c contractors and Ray Welter Heating were impressed with them. They called back immediately and Todd explained several options with prices that were very competitive. What I appreciated was the honest and open no-pressure discussion and description of what work would be done. We decided on a matching Trane high efficiency furnace and a/c and due to our schedule set up the installation for about 3 months later (June 2015). We also asked Ray Welter Heating to add two air vents and a return air vent in the basement so we could better use that space. Again, no problem. Two installers and an electrician arrived just after 8 am. They identified themselves, were very professional, advised where they thought the best places for the new basement vents would be and got to work. We also asked for a wireless thermostat that we could control remotely. Ralph, the lead installer, was very helpful in setting it up and getting connected to our laptop and other mobile devices. The installers showed how to control the new units and options for best performance. Final pricing was consistent with the original bid.
