My parents took me in at the age of 11 for what was a "routine straightening." The predicted two to three years ended up lasting from mid-sixth grade through the beginning of senior year. I had a baby tooth inset and fused to my jawbone, and so Hinesly's team decided to take the quick fix and align my teeth around that tooth rather than remove it in favor of an implant. This led to an uneven bite and jaw clicking (had to see a periodontist who claimed the clicking was due to the misalignment of my back teeth) and follow-up from three more orthodontists (due to moving so frequently) and an oral surgeon to remove that tooth and have a bone graft in preparation for a permanent implant. Concerns were voiced multiple times by me/ my parents about the fact that my back teeth were so misaligned that I could no longer chew on one side of my mouth, but they were all brushed aside. When I finally got my braces off, my rubber retainer didn't fit because the teeth were "aligned" on the retainer how they should have been -- but weren't -- aligned in my mouth. Now, after thousands of dollars and work by three more orthodontists, this mistake is finally almost taken care of. I would definitely suggest getting multiple opinions before deciding on this office.

At this point, I give much of that credit to Dr. Wennersten and his staff. Everyone is friendly. The facilities are always comfortable. I almost always get a seat with a window which tends to make things feel less socially sterile. The visits are always quick and generally painless. And most importantly, I think that everyone is trained in such a way, that when they are conversing with you or asking a question, they do so when they know you can actually reply and not with some crazy instrument stuck in your mouth as it's trying to suck your face off of your skull. I tend to always leave hoping that I run into Dr. Wennersten or his staff somewhere else, because I frankly think they would all be great people to know. It's run by a husband & wife team of Dr. Kim and Dr. Ma, so it felt good knowing that I was supporting a local business instead of some corporate franchise. The person at the front desk (I think her name was Niki) was very helpful when I was filling out my forms and explained to me what was covered through my UofM grad student insurance, along with other logistics related things. I'm usually not good with paperwork, so her help was very much appreciated! After the initial examination, I learned that I had a filling that came loose and some minor gingivitis (which was expected since my teeth have been bothering me for a while now), and Dr. Ma explained her treatment plan for me in a way that I could actually understand. I should mention that I usually get very anxious when it comes to dentists, but Dr. Ma's gentle approach helped alleviate some of that anxiety. Oh yeah, and the hygienist was super thorough. Like, it felt like she got to parts of my mouth that I didn't even know existed. Quick Edit: my boyfriend recently went to Choice Dental after I pestered him about his dental health situation. He's just as weary of dentists as I am, so I was really relieved when he told me that he had a good experience with Dr. Kim. And when he says anything positive about any kind of doctor, he REALLY sincerely means it. So all in all I'd highly recommend Choice Dental to anyone looking for a dentist in the Ann Arbor area.

A chain (message me if you want to avoid them) that would always cancel your approintments the week of, offering you an appointment you couldn't make or an appointment 5 months off. And everytime you'd go, different dentist. Nice. So, when I changed jobs, my wife and I looked for a new dentist. Little researcher that she is, she found Dr. Choi at Choice Dental, which is on South Main just across from the stadium in that office building with the parking underneath. Not only is the office pleasant and the staff very friendly and competant, but the service is just outstanding. Everytime I'd turn around, he'd have something new and techy, from the tiny camera he used to take pics of my teeth so I could see what was going on to the program he used to show my how my teeth were going to move. Better yet, when I went for my cleaning, the DENTIST did the whole cleaning. Not a 2 minute consult. The WHOLE cleaning. Long story short, this dentist will make you feel like you're back in time, with a dentist who's good at what he does and actually gives a damn about you. Old school. A little over a year ago, I had a…read moreterrible slip and fall accident into the sharp corner of the TV stand, with such an impact that the ER doctor thought I had been in a car accident going 55 miles per hour. It completely destroyed my upper bone in my mouth and my front teeth. After a grueling year of surgeries and bone grafts, Dr. Lisa Powell as well as our close collaborator the oral surgeon, Dr. Alena Fear, restored my teeth and mouth along with a big part of my self-confidence. Far from dismissing patient opinions, they took my views into account. We worked very closely as a team, which made the process go very harmoniously and smoothly. Dr. Powell was perseverant, precise and incredibly compassionate . She shaped the teeth like a sculptor, sometimes refining them 12 times in a row to get the right fit. Many thanks to the masterful lab technician, Ed, who was a huge help with the final and most crucial stages. You won't find a more capable and kinder dentist than Dr. Lisa Powell.
