At first I thought Rays was a one off when I stopped at the one in Bend Oregon. But between Bend and Port Orford we've past at least a dozen Rays.... That said they represent the small town niche and I'm sure the locals appreciate them. I've seen a lot of reviews mentioning their high prices but you got to remember they're offering convenience and they're the only game in town for now. You can get most anything you need here and they have a meat section, deli section and bakery. They also have premade sandwiches that are pretty tasty. Parking is no problem they have big lots. I guess I just can't figure out why the poorest town in curry county has to pay the most money for their food , Ray's food place in port orford has gone above and beyond pretty much one large sack of food ie: hamburger w/30% fat large (3.58) pounds cost me 20.00 that's 5.50 a pound for70 % meat and 30% fat wow I bet they aren't making any money on that ,cheese almost 16.00 for a 2pd brick, a small can of Chilli nalleys almost 3.00 a can, loaves of bread as high as 7.00 a loaf sliced ham or turkey lunch meat as high as 23.00 condiments miracle whip, mayo as high as 8 .00 a quart jar cans of cambles tomato soups near 3 bucks a can. Cottage cheese over 6 bucks for a medium size container a piece of smoked fish ( not even that good of flavor ) upwards of 9.00 a no roll roast which is the bottom of the barrell cost 30 + dollars any way that's probably all a guy can fit in a large plastic sack oh and you wany to get all you can in the sack because they charge you for them too any way I'm bumping the governor on a hundred bucks a sack , let's just day I did the math on my bank statement thru the 20th of this month August and it came to 908 .40 and there is still 11 days left and this included the stops to the dollar general which has also earned a reveiw for screwing the citizens of this town by jacking their prices right up there with rays highly over inflated prices i wonder what they would do if everyone just quit shopping there I'm pretty sure they would just raise there prices even more I have heard from an old employee of theirs (rays) that the port orford rays makes the most money of all of them go figure.... read more

They crew are always friendly and accomodating. In the last 3 months, I had 2 different needs to locate products and the same young lady, that was doing stocking, walked me to the location of those. She is a great asset to the Ray's team. read more

For a town that depends heavily on tourism, the people of Port Orford tend to be a bit standoffish. I felt a little self-conscious at first because townspeople openly gape at you, as if to say "We don't get many a your kind around these parts." It's like one of those movies about a town that is harboring a dark secret. The first time I walked into Ray's Food Place shortly after arriving in town, an employee addressed me with "May I HELP you?" But his tone wasn't friendly. It was more of a verbal challenge similar to what you get when you mistakenly wander someplace you don't belong. "Just grabbing a few groceries, thanks." No one was very friendly that day. On subsequent visits, the employees were were friendly and helpful. Maybe they're suspicious of outsiders. Ray's Food Place isn't a full-service supermarket but they do a good job for a small-town grocery store. It will take a special effort to come up with something they don't have. I asked about a sheet of plastic like a drop cloth and they sent me over to Shop of Horrors. You can get decent coffee and cinnamon rolls. The ladies in the deli section are very friendly and helpful. You can get sandwiches, salads, and rotisserie chicken. They have Red Hook IPA, one of my favorite beers, for $6 a six-pack. In the front of the store, they have a selection of household items like beach chairs, coolers, charcoal briquettes, flashlights, fishing hats, and so on. By the end of my stay in Port Orford (in May of 2008), I was a happy Ray's Food Place shopper. I'm writing a belated review because I found an old receipt for coffee and rolls at 6:33 a.m. on May 26. Their stated hours are 7a.m. to 9 p.m. (?) I wanted to say something nice about Ray's Food Place because they're far better than the store up the highway in Langlois. At Ray's they act like they're happy you stopped by to spend some money. If you're zooming up the highway for Port Orford, remember two things: The speed limit in town is 30 mph and they'll ticket you in a heartbeat. And, their grocery store is way better than the one farther up the highway. read more

Absolutely outrageous pricing. Along with the one gas station and the one dispensary etc the take advantage of the monopoly position and play it for all its worth. Almost all specials are 'When you buy X number' of items. We are talking FULL MNFG SUGGESTED RETAIL and more if they can. OK, the town would suffer if they closed... but it's a self fulfilled circle. High prices drive shoppers out of town, leading to higher prices. read more

So wanted to cash a check there and was treated like I was some low life patron that actually shops there every time I am in Port Orford. Was dressed down and still dirty and had paint on my hands from a deck I was painting for a friend in town. I grabbed a few items and waited for the manager. The check was local, and so am I no prob, right??? Nope wrong!! So long story short I suppose since I was not treated like a respectable hardworking individual of our community , then I will not support nor spend a dime of my money at this store again. I like Ray's. Wide variety, helpful staff, and organic produce.

In an area generally bereft of grocery totes, this has all the basics and a public restroom. It's clean and fairly priced given the remoteness. read more

Stayed a week here in PO, excellent store. Plenty of Organic foods, 1st time I have seen Organic bananas. Staff was beyond friendly and helpful. WIFI, and WIFI next door at library. Good Parking. Staff told me they stock Organic foods on purpose for the community, and more in their Brookings store. read more

There prices are more than just overpriced, they are taking advantage of a full blown monopoly as they are the only grocery store within a 30 mile radius. I understand higher prices in a small town, however it should be illegal how much they have marked up their prices. read more

I just left Ray's empty-handed after NOT paying them $2.99 cents for a single bunch of cilantro. It's the middle of summer and cilantro is plentiful. This store is, and has been, a complete ripoff on almost all products almost all the time. I'm a local, and can tell you that you'll be far ahead to do your shopping in either Gold Beach or Bandon at Price N Pride or Langlois at the Langlois Market. The given excuse is that this Ray's is located so far from the normal trade routes that shipping costs require these outrageous mark-ups. Yelp needs to add another dollar sign up at the top under Ray's Food Place. A little competition would send these thieves packing. read more
