We stumbled into the Old Agness Store in Gold Beach almost by accident, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. I ordered the Charlie, a fresh tuna sandwich with dill, tomato, and a balsamic reduction. My wife chose the turkey sandwich, made from whole roasted turkey that is cooked and sliced in-house, served with Dijon mustard, provolone, and fresh greens. We opted for the gluten-free bread, which was excellent, but they also offer house-made bread that looked and smelled amazing. We paired our sandwiches with the vegetable soup, which was hearty, loaded with vegetables, and seasoned beautifully. Everything tasted fresh, carefully prepared, and made with real attention to quality. What surprised us most was that this isn't just a sandwich shop. The store carries an impressive selection of premium spices, sauces, and specialty foods. We left with a powerful chili paste that will be perfect with smoked pork chops and a coconut curry sauce that came with a recipe for a coconut curry rice dish we're looking forward to making at home. Be sure to save room for dessert. They offer a variety of both gluten-free and traditional baked goods. I tried the chocolate ball and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere made the experience even better. While we were eating, beautiful piano music filled the room. We were amazed to discover it wasn't recorded music at all--it was being performed live by Michelle, a concert-trained pianist. Her partner, Steve, has an equally interesting background, having brewed beer for the Grateful Dead. Their passion and personality are woven into every part of the business. The food quality was exceptional, yet the prices were remarkably reasonable. It's rare to find a place that combines outstanding food, specialty products, live music, and genuinely interesting people under one roof. If you're passing through Gold Beach, don't miss it. I wanted to go here because I seen they had "charcuterie" boards something I both love and per-fect-- these are more like snack plates. Nothing interesting or groundbreaking about these boards for the prices in my opinion. Everything seemed liked basic grocery store items and I make more artisanal and elevated boards just at home. Service was subpar. Table of 2 & they asked for my ID to seat us at the bar -- we didn't plan to sit there but that's what seemed available to them. was there at a very slow point of the day. The place itself is small and not very spacious. Overall my first experience at this could have been way better and I did expect more. I also visited the store that is interconnected -- bought a few items including a coconut blondie. The blondie was delicious but service in the store was just the same as the restaurant. read more

This place is a diamond. The Old Agness Store is the perfect lunch pit stop if, like me, you are craving something different from the routine eggs/fish sandwich/chowder/burger options along the Oregon coast. I was relieved to find that not only are there wholesome homemade soups on offer but the sandwiches are made with homemade and unboring ingredients like house-baked bread, dilly tuna salad, chanterelles and their own cranberry sauce. I ordered the veggie sandwich, and a cup of the daily soup: veggie stew with chanterelles. Both were brimming with fresh vegetables, and they did not skimp on those freshly foraged mushrooms. Service was so friendly and welcoming. Our sandwiches took a bit longer than the time it takes to stand in line at a Subway. And that is for good reason; the owners were lovingly putting the finishing touches on our lunches as if we were visiting house guests. I can't say enough good things about Old Agness Store. From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place is run with genuine care and love by Steve and his wife. They've created something truly special here in Gold Beach. We started with the two meat, two cheese charcuterie board paired with two glasses of Merlot. The ambience was perfect, simple seating with little tables up against the windows, the natural light, and even a piano tucked inside gave it a cozy, thoughtful feel. After enjoying our wine and food, we browsed the shop, which is stocked with fresh, locally sourced foods... a rarity these days when so many places only carry overly processed, preservative-loaded snacks. I was thrilled to find clean, high-quality options for the road: - Chipotle Infused Smoking Hot Honey - Rosemary & Olive Oil Crisps + Artisan Crisps - Oregon Hazelnut Toffee - A local 2013 Pinot Noir - Stout Mustard Sauce - Pineapple Habanero Jelly - A couple of incredible little chocolate squares made with just organic cocoa beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter, and roasted coffee. The staff was genuinely friendly, and Steve took the time to chat with us and even recommended a local pizza spot in town with good beer, something we're now really looking forward to. This place is exactly what I've been searching for: a spot where you can enjoy great food, wine, and warm company, and also pick up wholesome, delicious items to take home or on the road. I got the "Featherless Owl" sandwhich (turkey provolone) and added pesto, made it a melt. it was really good, only critique is something was lacking salt on the sandwhich. We stopped in here to see what this business was about. We ended up having a draft beer and cider. Because it was our anniversary we also ordered a homemade brownie with ice cream. The selection of brownies and blondies was out of this world. We ultimately selected one with cherries but the peanut butter one almost won. Too many decisions! They have a nice little store with beer and wine to go, yummy baked goods, cheese and meat platters, and a huge selection of hot sauces among other things. The owners were very attentive and kept checking on us. Great customer service! They have just recently moved into a site that used to be a restaurant and they are working on getting it decorated. We came in on a Sunday rainy day. It's a bday tradition to come and get some blondies. I ordered the two meat and two cheese charcuterie board. It was so special because we were able to get a variety of the delicious products that they sell. The spicy strawberry jam was great as well as the chipotle mustard we paired the charcuterie with. Steve and Michele were so sweet and had samples of their new flavors of blondies. The coffee and coconut were so good. The service was special, detailed, and very welcoming. What a gift it is that Steve and Michele moved the Old Agness Store from upriver Agness into Gold Beach! During my yearly visits to the Rogue River, one of my main stops is a visit at OAS to shop and visit with my dear friends. A new item this year is the Kissing Rock coffee. I brought some back home with me, along with lots of other goodies, and I declare it is tasty! Nice new find. There is now more seating in the cosy shop for enjoying the gluten free menu. The tuna salad and mortadella sandwich were both top of the line yummy. Well worth a stop. Maybe Michele would even play her piano for you, if you're very lucky. read more

I was so excited to dig into my delicious tuna on a sub roll, I forgot to take a photo before eating 1/2 of my sandwich! The stone ground mustard was overwhelming, and the mayonnaise was not thick enough to make up for the dry gluten free bread. The tomato on the sandwich was the best part and without it, I'm not sure I would have been able to eat a bite with swallowing liquid. This would be my first choice for food-related gifts to bring home to friends/family. Now I realize it may have just been the specials and not the whole menu. But we were never offered a menu. We had the frankfurter, Moroccan soup ( highly recommended both), and cornbread. We stopped in thinking this was a gluten free bakery and saw that they had a lunch menu. Was informed that they don't make the buns or rolls for the hotdogs or sandwiches. The hot dogs were served on a gluten free Franz buns, were really nice, but all they did was heat and assemble. We thought we would see what else they had, they had gluten free bars and cookies that they make. Not there? but not sure where. We bought 4 different brownies, at $8 each for a 3x3 square, and ended up with two that had some type of pepper in them. No one in our group could eat them, they were so terribly hot! All of them were dry and since we couldn't eat the spicy ones, not sure about them. We also bought some cookies, which I asked if they were fresh, since we personally know that gluten free cookies get dry and crumbly the next day, and were assured they were. They were also typical of gluten free cookies - dry and falling apart. Everything else in the store was packaged and bottled items, not something they make. We were very happy with the hotdogs and buns, and the people that were working there were very nice, but wouldn't go back just that. Very disappointed. read more
