I couldn't get a flight scheduled toward the next day and chose a late afternoon/early evening flight in the hopes that the roads would be cleared. The taxi guy I've been using for a while (not this service, to be clear) canceled on me with only a few hours to spare before we had to leave for the airport. He said he couldn't get to us. I guess it's possible that he lives in a place where they don't plow right away, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and won't name him. He also said we shouldn't bother calling any of the other cab services because he tried and called some for us?? Or he said that no one else will be operating either? I'm not clear on this because it was my mom who answered my phone when he called, but that's what she said HE said. He suggested we try RDU Taxi (NOT express), but they couldn't give us a ride either. They were either fully booked or not operational, I'm not sure. Someone at the airport said they were fully booked, but the lady on the phone with me said they weren't operating. I don't know the real story. So then my mom panics and I suggest we try calling the non-emergency police line. Listen, we're Jewish, and we bury our dead within 24-48 hours. Or at least try to. Exceptions are made to allow for far-flung relatives to fly in, sure, but I don't think RDU to Miami, FL counts as far-flung. So we were desperate. The police told us they couldn't help us but suggested we double check with our airline that the flight is still scheduled. We did so, and the JetBlue lady assured us the flight was good to go. Great, but we had no one to drive us there, we didn't want to have to pay a lot to leave our car at the airport, and I certainly wasn't confident in my snow driving skills. My mom is in tears because my regular cab driver said not to bother calling anyone else except maybe RDU Taxi who already shot us down. So what to do? I go on Yelp. This was the first one listed at the time, so I dial and someone answers right away. We tell him our situation (though a lot more condensed, wow I'm pretty long-winded and could stand to edit things down, no? Brevity is the soul of wit or something like that I don't know). He says he'll have to charge more because the snow, but he will make it happen for us and he promises to be there when we ask him to be there. By the time he gets there, which is a good 10 minutes early, the parking area outside of my apartment building is in the process of being plowed, the street outside my apartment is plowed, the street on the way to I-40 is plowed, and I-40 is also plowed and very clear. We got there safely. I couldn't even tell you what car we were in. It might have been an SUV or some sort of vehicle that had better traction in ice and snow for safety reasons. I was kind of in a fog that day, for obvious reasons. We paid $65, but we didn't care. We were just happy to find someone to take us to where we needed to be. So happy we even threw in a $20 tip. Listen, my mom is a good tipper, but I had to convince her why I should pay 30% when dining out during Christmas Eve (we do the Chinese restaurant thing, which is a Jewish tradition), so if she easily was agreed with me that we should tip slightly more than 30% for that cab ride? She was grateful. Beyond grateful. Our driver was professional and I am also thankful he got us to the airport that day.

They all said the only time they relaxed was in the car. The driver was polite and considerate and very helpful. The service that was provided was exactly what Chris had said it would be. We made 4 reservations for service beginning with our arrival last night at RDU airport…read more No show, no call. All the signs were there from the beginning...no written confirmation. Just a verbal assurance that it was all handled. Disorganized about our arrival details even though we had put them succinctly in writing. They were apologetic when they told us nothing like this had ever happened before and they were embarrassed, etc but there was no suggestion or offer of sending another driver or providing a solution. When we texted that we still had not heard from the driver and we tried to call, we were unable to reach anyone for several minutes. So, we were left to deal with the situation on our own. I guess the silver lining was that it was our first service at the airport where there are options abound. Had this been our pick up going back to the airport things could have been MUCH worse.
