Many people assume this is a charity-run thrift store where proceeds mostly go to helping people in need. What most shoppers do not realize is that America's Thrift Stores is a privately owned, for-profit company operating a large retail business using donated merchandise that costs them nothing to acquire. Yes, they advertise support for charitable organizations like House of Grace, but public reporting shows these types of partnerships often involve limited contractual payments to the charities while the retail company keeps the larger resale profits. Meanwhile, customers are seeing heavily used household items, damaged goods, and ordinary donated clothing priced at -- and sometimes above -- original retail prices. That raises a fair question: At what point does a "thrift store" stop being a thrift store and simply become a highly profitable resale business built on free inventory and the public's assumption that they are supporting charity? People should know who they are shopping with -- and who is actually benefiting from their money.

He said there was easily $45k worth of goods however when it was too late, and we added up his sticker prices, and being educated in antiques ourselves, we discovered that there was over $100k in antiques. He did not advertise the sale properly, he only posted on Estate Sales dot net. The first day, hardly anyone showed up. I realized that something was strange already prior to this so I posted on Facebook late the first night letting people know about the next day's sale. The second day of the estate sale was packed non-stop and everyone who came said that they learned about the sale from Facebook. On the first day he spent over $1000 himself, had his family members come and purchase antiques (spending thousands themselves) as well as friends of his. Mind you, he owns an antique store in downtown Ocean Springs and priced everything himself. He also did not allow us to make decisions about the cost when we would speak with people who were trying to purchase items. The second day of the sale, the lady who worked at the door who took the money told everyone that everything was 50% off. How can everything be 50% off to people who didn't even attend the first days sale??! In his contract, he said there would be a "clearance sale" but he was too busy so he couldn't come back and do that for a while. With my posts on Facebook, I had lots of people wanting things at full price, but he wouldn't allow me to sell anything. When he was finally able to come back and do the clearance sale (after we had to pay more for the house electricity, etc.) the house nearly became cleared out and we were left with nothing. $100k worth of antiques and we received less than $10k. Im not even sure how this is possible as with just having spoken with 3 people that were at the sale, they spent $3k alone. He's a professional thief and scam artist. I would not hire him again and would not recommend him to anyone. I hope my review saves others from being scammed.

The dressing rooms are a big issue. There are more than one but the ladies were only opening one. It was pretty busy being a Saturday afternoon with six plus people waiting in line for said dressing room. Other than the rude staff I enjoyed the store. I purchased a few items and will return if ever in the area. Not to mention nothing in the store is over $10. Owners may want to get some workers that are friendly and like to be around people.
