My builder recommended Reading Asphalt to install the new driveway for my addition which included a new garage. Tony Cail the owner is very nice and gave me a very reasonable price. I had to wait on my job due to other work being done on my property (landscaping, drainage, and fencing), but I still recommended Reading Asphalt to my neighbor. She loves her new driveway and spoke very highly of Tony and his crew. My driveway was installed yesterday (9/12/23). Between the guys who removed the old driveway, filled the ground with rocks, and leveled it and the guys who came to install the asphalt, the work was very professional and done in less than a full day. Even the light rain didn't slow down the work. The crew is very efficient and there is a large team so things move fast, but not sloppy. I paid ~ $8900 for my old driveway to be removed, and a new driveway to be installed including leveling, adding substrate, grading assuring the pitch was correct, adding asphalt and rolling/paving. The day it was done, the team knew a mistake was made and left a patch of asphalt in the middle of driveway, too low, and raked up and not rolled. Yet it was late in the day and they left it. The area now fills with water with every rain storm, so I or my step in puddles as I get out of my car. It took them from May to Oct to try infrared red, something I learned from expert at UMASS that cannot reheat or restore asphalt, yet damages/dries out and ages the new asphalt that was installed. In the winter the puddles at the top of my driveway froze and grew until I had an ice rink and no amount of sanding/salting would make it safe. Myself and 3 other people fell in my driveway. I have been complaining to owner Tony Cali for over a year, their response your driveway is just to flat. My old 100 year old driveway didn't have puddles, and it wasn't to flat. They must think since I'm a women, I wouldn't understand that it was their responsibility to assure that the land was graded such that water would run off. I have had no offer by them to fix their mistake, I'll have to have it fixed as the driveway in the winter is unsafe and someone will get hurt. I don't want to be sued, I guess I should sue them. Over the years, I've heard good things about Reading Asphalt. Last year they did a driveway in my neighborhood and it came out so nice that I decided I would hire them for my driveway, no matter the price. Their quote however was surprisingly low. They explained that there was about a 6 month wait, which was ok with me. They came out here last week and removed my existing driveway and installed the new one on the same day. They had a big crew with lots of equipment. They spent a long time getting everything just right. The new driveway came out perfect. They even raised the water shut off to be flush with the driveway. It had been paved over since it was installed too low 37 years ago. I highly recommend Reading Asphalt. read more

We hired Reading Asphalt to replace our driveway last month. They were quick to respond to my initial inquiry and the owner came out to provide an estimate shortly thereafter. We were given plenty of information about the process, and what to expect while the work was being done. The job was completed on time, with no surprises. The guys were polite and friendly. One item of note: right after the final paving was completed the foreman walked up the street to get caution tape to stretch across the mouth of the driveway. In the few minutes he was gone, a plumber who was lost drove his truck onto our brand new new driveway (unbelievable). The foreman turned right around and brought back his guys with the rolling machine and smoothed over where the truck had driven. I was very relieved. Thank you Reading Asphalt! I'm very disappointed with Reading Asphalt's approach and the way they treated us.  We signed a contract in the middle of August for a driveways asphalt at a project in Arlington. We paid for the permit fee as well as deposit. It took them about 5 weeks to get the permit, however, they never informed us about that. Finally after several times reaching out to them, they mentioned that the have the permit. We asked them to schedule for a fix day to do the project but they said there is no need to do that, they only need 2 days notice to do the project! So we reached out to them few days ago to do the project. Surprisingly, they refused to fulfill their commitments since they have other projects to do! Unfortunately, Arlington has some restrictions for the asphalt days, and the deadline is apparently this Friday November 13! So because of unprofessional and irresponsible behavior of Reading Asphalt team, specifically Tony and Shannon, our project is been significantly delayed. In short, I do NOT recommend Reading Asphalt to any friend or colleague since they are NOT responsible and professional! read more

We hired Reading Asphalt to replace our driveway. They were great - came out to measure, got DigSafe to mark the street and underground pipes. Gave us a day notice when they would start, as agreed. First day was old driveway removal, next day was the asphalt. Mark and his entire paving crew were great - very quick, competent, experienced and professional. Done in one morning. Excellent clean up, too. All my small requests were no problem, even added a small repair not originally on the quote. Would highly recommend them. read more

Utterly disappointed. This company's strategy is to pick and choose easy driveways to pave, so they can maximize their profit by providing a lower quality asphalt. The strategy is: pave only simple driveways (flat, no physical obstacles such as external air conditioners, no elevations, and no difficult prep work. Hand-picked terrain geography allows them to put on a lower quality asphalt that will last long enough since the stress and forces on a flat asphalt driveway are far less than forces on some more complicated driveways. In the process, you will waste a lot of time by scheduling appointment with them, hosting them for an estimate, and then helplessly wondering why they have not sent you the promised estimate. As an engineer, I suggest you avoid hassle with Reading Asphalt. read more

We recently had a new driveway installed from scratch. We wanted it wider than the old one, which had tree roots growing up from under so the old driveway was a mess. Tony Cail from Reading Asphalt came over, gave us a firm estimate, as was able to have someone remove the tree stumps where it was being widened. When his crew came, they did a super job during the prep and installation. Mark, the crew foreman, asked us if there where any special things that needed doing, etc. I highly recommend them! read more

We had them replace our old driveway a few year ago & then had the do the recommended seal coating too. Due to the terrible winter last year we had what can only be described as a frost heave approx. 3 feet in length. My husband called to have them come out to look & have it repaired. They came out to inspect the crack, but we never heard from them. After repeated phone calls my husband actually went to their place of business & it was explained to him that the asphalt he had been getting was a different grade & that caused the problem, our work was out of warranty & there was nothing he could do. I never expected to have the repair work done for free, I expected to pay for the work. It was a terrible winter & I felt fortunate that this was our only issue. I had an old driveway replaced but was left with $1,000+ in additional landscaping because the driveway was installed 6" above the level of the previous driveway and the existing grade. I had been given no indication that this was the plan and no explanation after the fact as to why it had to be installed that way. These guys are great! We were originally scheduled to have our driveway done this June but they were able to get it done a bit earlier than expected. They had to remove a small tree, some shrubs, and mulch beforehand, and got it done quickly and professionally, all in one afternoon. Looks great! read more
