Although there are some redeeming qualities to the shop and possibly better barbers in the shop, unfortunately I cannot recommend the business because of the quality of cut I got, price of the work, amount of time it took, and needing to constantly coach the barber through a simple cut. First, the good; the shop has a good taste in music and vibes. They did try to work through the hair cut and listened to my suggestions. That is about all I can say that went well. Overall quality of the cut was poor; they missed placed an obvious part line, did a botched job working on keeping the top flat, and had poor blending skills. For all of this they are asking for $40 for a standard cut and even more if you include a basic shave. In my opinion, there are better deals pretty nearby. My simple cut of straight sides of a constant length and trim on the top with enough to push back took upwards of 1:45 with at least three re-attempts to fix it before I gave up on the effort. It is annoying to constantly re-explain the cut and have to coach the barber through the most basic of procedures to get a mediocre cut in the end. Only time I would go back is if my typical barber is out of town and I am in desperate need read more

I USED to like this place but not anymore. I've had 5~6 haircuts from here total. I'd have say of 4~5 of my visits, my wait was OVER AN HOUR LONG [not an exaggeration] for a walk-in cut. I honestly have to say that I have received only 2 good haircuts here. The haircut before last was sub-par. The last haircut was a disaster. I found the barber [I think his name is Jose] was rushed and honestly did not pay attention to cutting my hair -- he was too focused on looking at his phone and talking with his co-workers about buying some gold-trimmed Lamborghini clippers. The edges were not clean. He didn't trim well along the ears and sides of my neck. The fade was uneven and poorly executed. If you are providing a service to a customer then you should pay attention to the customer and perform the service properly. Also on the last 2 visits, his [Jose, I think] clippers were dull (or just needed an adjustment) and nicked my skin several times. I could understand this happening on one visit but, two visits in a row -- give me a break. The thing that really gets me is he knew his clippers were bad during both visits. Thomas will probably come on here and praise his employees and claim how this establishment provides the best service. But, I disagree Thomas. The customer service provided by this business is lacking. Customers shouldn't have to look at their haircut afterwards while in the chair and say, "Hey can you clean that up a little better please." The service provided should be done right the first time without distractions or interruptions. And my claim on the length of wait of over an hour IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION. Thomas might say otherwise but he would be lying if he did. And one last note... If you're a hipster you'll probably love this place. If you don't mind non-stop, repetitive Bob Marley music OR crude rapli with excessive expletives OR other hip-hop tunes that promote joggin' your bitches and slappin' your hoes, then you'll fit right in. If that's your forte, then Godspeed to you. With that, I will never step foot in this establishment again. read more

I arrived with my 2 boys and my husband for them to get a haircut. We were not pleased with Jose's work. It took him 50 minutes (!!!!)to give my son a simple haircut, my son told me it even hurt him, and the outcome was very disappointing. Berto on the other hand served my other son and my husband. I came here at the referral for a friend who we previously shared a hairstylist with. Our hairstylist moved on to a company role at a large hair-care company and so we were left without a good hairstylist/barber. The Real Barber Shop was a great find, I've been here 3 times now and each time had a great experience with Jacob. Come in roughly once a month and get my hair cut, and beard trimmed. Each time great attention to detail is given, and it is not a trim haircut and done. Jacob is very professional and knowledgeable, great for asking hair-care questions. The only challenging thing for me is the 6pm close time, I work ~45min drive away from this place, and unless I work from home, or on a Saturday, its hard to get in sometimes, but that just comes with the territory of finding a good barber and them being in demand. read more

Just observing him with my son I could see he really takes pride in his "art", he's very meticulous. Just a real barber shop! My husband was greated by the guys outside and walked right into a chair for a serious make over! He wasn't sure what to do so Jose and Tommy helped him pick out a new style, and were patient with him when he was indecisive. Really nice guys and music was super fun. I came in to get my undercut cleaned up and get a new design. I asked for tighter edges, fade, and tapering. The person who worked on me did a nice job and definitely cleaned up the lines. One piece of advice, though. If you want them to do a design on you, go in with a specific idea in mind. Or, better yet, bring a picture. Don't tell them to just do whatever and expect to be absolutely in love with what they've come up with. read more

In fact, they are always able to provide me with a well-done, stylish haircut even if I only have a vague idea about what I want, and that is what makes this place spectacular! Just moved to the area in April and I've gone to a couple of different places so far. This place has been my favorite and I think I may stop going to different places. Tommy cut my hair and did my beard and didn't force chatter. I'm not a talkative kind of person until I get comfortable and he didn't force it but he was super nice. Haircut was excellent. I wasn't very helpful and told him to do what he wanted. What he did was better than I expected. He was incredibly detailed and seemed to be a perfectionist and the results were exceptional. First time I tried this place out because it had high reviews. I called ahead and they told me to come in and there was no wait. I go there, and wait over 50 minutes while several people just walk in and they take them ahead of me. Very rude staff nobody even addressed me or let me know how much longer etc. So, if you love paying $30 for a haircut, rude staff and loud Latino music this is your place. Top tier barbershop in the Ann Arbor-Yipsi area. Everyone in the shop knows exactly what they're doing and they do it incredibly well. I've gotten my hair cut by Jacob, Gio, and Tommy, and each time it's absolutely fantastic. Parking is very easy and their prices are reasonable for what they do for you. I had a great experience getting a cut here. Jose went above and beyond to give me a clean, modern cut and trim up my beard. In my opinion, this was worth the $25 price tag for a good look. Asked for a BALD fade. Was given nothing of the sorts. When my barber finished, I thought he was joking. I took my glasses off and he said we were done. I didn't want to argue because I was so taken aback at how my hair was cut when he said we were finished. He literally faded about half an inch around my hairline and left everything alone. I didn't want anyone in that building touching my hair after that point. He never even went all the way up and both sides of my head were still round and not even shaped. Someone who asks for any kind of fade shouldn't leave with mismatching uneven sides. I ended up going up the street to get it fixed. The barber who fixed it gave me a discount because he said he felt bad that I paid 30.00. He even told me that everything was uneven and not finished. Also, didn't like how my Barber thought it was more important to text during my appointment along with stopping multiple times to converse with his coworkers.
