Jan and Brandon jerked my husband around for weeks about getting an apartment. Once moved in, we had to fight to get the second parking spot we were promised, the roof leaks in 4 different areas, the ac has broke 5 times and their response to everything is they can't do anything without the owners permission. When my husband requested maintenance to address these problems, Jan had the audacity to write back and say "novel text messages are really my pet peeve"-- ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! I was blown away by the rudeness and the unprofessionalism. I have never ever ever dealt with people like this. The delayed responses, straight to voicemail calls, ignore the text messages.. the list goes on! Where I come from in California, we don't do business this way and we don't treat people this way. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT deal with these people. Absolutely awful, mentally and socially incompetent. I can't imagine being treated this way in Los Angeles- especially given the $ this apartment costs.

I do not live here, but my boyfriend and I toured two units on 1/27/2015. We had five appointments…read moreto see various places that day and were the least impressed with the Carlton. Pros: These lofts are pretty nice. The color schemes are great, there is a decent amount of open space, the amenities are up to date, and our host Bob claimed that the building is pet-friendly, which is hard to come by in luxury lofts in Detroit. The units were priced relatively fairly and competitive with the other lofts of its type in the neighborhood. Cons: Customer service....namely, our host, Bob, who seemed straight out of a 1960s time capsule. He was pleasant at first, and it seems the condescending manner in which he spoke is just product of the stereotypes his generation tends to have about women rather than him trying to be insulting (he was an older gentleman). Yet, it still soured our experience. Any questions I had were mostly answered to my boyfriend's face. The unit we were most interested in was a two bedroom for $1600 a month...the square footage currently escapes me. The loft was clean and moderately aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately underwhelming. The floor plan was bi-level, yet not in a traditional loft sense...the living room and bedrooms were two separate floors entirely. Descending into the bedroom area felt like walking into a basement, and the two bedrooms were rather small and only had two medium sized windows. Being huge on natural light, I quietly mentioned to my boyfriend that I didn't care for the unit(he agreed) and that we had 4 others to see so we should not waste Bob's time and head to the next one. Bob overheard this, and said to me "Don't worry, you'll like it in a minute!" And showed me an extremely sad excuse for a walk-in closet with nothing but cheap wire shelves screwed into the walls. Sorry, Bob. It's going to take more than white wire shelves bolted to walls to sell me on $1600 per month. Any questions on income or employment were asked directly to my boyfriend. We quickly viewed a one bedroom unit where Bob pointed to the kitchen and the whirlpool tub and said to me "you'll like these, and he'll like that (motioning to the living room with a view over the city...I forgot that only men enjoy a view..apparently Bob's wife doesn't like a view of the outdoors while she gets dinner on the table for him by 5.) We left not long after that, both laughing and scratching our heads. Bob, maybe try being a bit more professional with female applicants, and stop making the tired stereotypical jokes that are far too common with landlords and female tenants. PS- we rented the next unit we saw, shown to us by Ken Davies with New Century Management. Very professional, efficient, and with the times where most couples keep two-earner households.

I have been a tenant at this apartment for four years. It is perfectly located in Midtown Detroit…read more Walking distance from Wayne State medical school, and Wayne State undergrad campus. A short Uber ride from downtown and with the new Q line built there is a station right in front of the apartment that takes you anywhere you need to go along Woodward. The unit includes dishwasher, a refrigerator, oven, microwave, and a washer and dryer. The unit does not come furnished allowing you to customize it your self. I have attached pictures of my one bedroom, one bathroom unit " midtown" floor plan. The apartment building also has a gym that has recently been remodeled and upgraded. It has a television, two treadmills, two ellipticals, a bicycle, assisted benchpress rack, free weights, and a multi exercise weight machine like a bowflex. The current building managers John and Nikki are the best we have ever had. They truly care about the cleanliness of the building, they are very responsive to complaints, and they are constantly striving to upgrade and improve the services of the building. They host monthly events for the whole apartment including things like a happy hour social, or a night out at hop cat all on the tab of studio one. The building managers also have organized a custom coffee and smoothie cart to make drinks for the tenants. They truly care about us! There is a call box at the front door. And a nightly security guard who patrols the property for extra security. This is much appreciated. The only complaints I would have about the location is that on a Friday or Saturday night the people at starters bar and grill downstairs can make too much noise in the parking lot. Also, the parking downstairs is for retail customers only. If you have a car you will need to purchase a separate parking pass in the structure. Overall I give this place five stars for its price, comfort, staff, location, and security, the combination of which is not found anywhere else in Midtown Detroit.

The location is awesome with it being right in midtown. There are a ton of places to walk to and downtown is a 30 min walk or a QLINE ride away. The apartments are super nice, mine has black granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, large windows, and a small balcony. Overall I have had poor experiences with renting and this one has been exceptional with this company, definitely recommend if you are looking to live in the midtown area.

Make no mistake, this is a Village Green Apartment now. All reviews, which were mostly positive,…read moreare really null and void after February 1 of this year. If that doesn't scare you away, then please read on. I have been a resident of Lofts of Merchants Row (LoMR) for 9 years now. Nine years ago, Detroit was a completely different city than it is now. It really was dicey in most areas. But in the middle of Woodward was a luxury development that the Schostak Brothers had the insight to build. And things were mostly good, and we had many long-term residents. Other than the longtime manager, who is serving time for pedophilia in the UP (and also a Village Green alumni), we had a community-based living arrangement. Fast forward to this year. In February, we were forced, and were not even told about, the Schostak's decision to bring in the much, much discounted and classless company, Village Green. My heart sank when I got the news. They have a lower rating than even Spirit Airlines (2.1) and they proved worthy of that mark when they arrived. We were without management for seemingly a month due to the horrible transition from the old to new management. When they finally did get it together, we couldn't even pay rent online for another couple of months! The complex is a very, very different place now. Here is what you can expect: * There is very little security. The back door is propped open often and the fire door is always held open by a bungee. * The windows are original windows and are single panes, leaded glass. Also, they are VERY drafty. * The noise off of Woodward is awful. I could be sitting 10 feet away from my TV, with a soundbar, and not be able to hear it even when maxed. This is a result of both terrible policing and the nearly non-existent sound resistance of the windows. * Maintenance now has their hands tied due to the inability to get much needed repairs completed by ownership. I have not had cold water in my kitchen sink for months and we went over a year before getting out windows cleaned. Again, cheap and classless. * The hallways now smell like a Turkish bazaar with the hallways REEK of marijuana smoke daily. I was recently asked by a client I was meeting with in the morning if I had smoked a joint beforehand. All I did was take the elevator. * As for the elevators, they are down A LOT. I have had friends and neighbors stuck in them multiple times. The parking garage has had BOTH elevators down for extended periods of time, thus no one being able to get to work. We have doctors, nurses, and emergency personnel in the building. They are terrible. When the contract for TK (awful elevator company) was set to renew, the old management assured us that we would get a better company. VG and the ownership chose the cheap route and kept them. It has been as bad as ever to this day. * What used to be an open door, friendly policy in the office has turned into an isolation room. Probably because of all the complaints from residents. They are equally unfriendly. * The garbage is no longer picked up on weekends, so by Monday the stench is overwhelming when using the back elevator. This lasts for days. Again, cheap and classless. * The garage staff are absolutely wonderful. They are always timely, efficient, and friendly. The only caveat, other than the price, is that your guests will not be allowed to park there if they have a pickup truck. I can recommend a few good places to live if you are downtown: * For high-end living, you have Water Square or The Vinton. * Bang for your buck would be the Alberts. * Convenience to the theater district, you have Woodward West. * For budget conscious, I recommend the Ashley. Whatever you decide, I would decide against Lofts of Merchants Row.

I lived there for almost 5 years. Moved out in October. The price for the location is unbeatable…read more Ultimately, poor maintenance drove me away. Every apartment has drop ceilings and the AC leaks every. single. summer. For the first 3 years I lived there, the A/C would shut down in mid-July (Shout out Detroit Beer Co). I had a build-up of water that created a giant bubble in the ceiling (as well as the paint next to it) for several days that eventually burst. Maintenance came by and cleaned up (a little) but I was without a ceiling tile for AT LEAST a month. Just a big old gaping hole in the ceiling for all my guests to see when they came over. On top of that, my AC would leak onto the floor, causing the nastiest moldy smell. They also sealed (nailed shut) all the windows last Spring (**Due to insanely high lead content on the original windows paint), so it was hard to escape the smell. Every time I called the emergency line about one of these issues, the manager (Marlo) never responded. I would get a text several days after calling saying 'someone will come look at it.' The live-in maintenance guy, Ken, is a nice guy but terribly unskilled and things are often (always) done half-assed. On top of all that, parking went up from $75 to $150 in the last 6 months. Which is average for the city but not worth it to park in a place that is regularly un-supervised and fills up during any sport/concert event downtown. A liquor store also opened up downstairs which is convenient, but ultimately brought along some sketchy clientele that hangs out outside. Oh, and lets not forget that you're directly next to Annex night club - which literally vibrates your walls like a German house orgy every Saturday night until 2 AM - in which, the cops would shut down Adams every. single. week. due to some fight or shooting OUTSIDE of the club - which is your front door! I'd say hold off on the Fyfe for now. It's falling apart, and some bigger fish is going to swoop in soon and gut that place. The location is too good for the Gilbert types not to notice.
