Very poor communication. Quality of work, questionable. I requested custom work; two rings were asked to be soldered together. After questioning the work, because jeweler had not reshaped the out of round ring before joining the rings, the owner said they would not do that. Yet, that is exactly what the jeweler did. Yes, the owner did ask more than once to return to the store, so he could see the completed product. There had been many pictures sent with my communications. He would still be using the same jeweler (retired works ad lib when orders placed). Documentation of job orders, pictures, yet no acknowledgment work was not done properly. Other communications poor. I have my rings; I paid my bill. Will proceed with correction of work elsewhere. read more

I visited the store to have 2 watches repaired (replacing 1 band and 1 battery). The owner was rude and condescending and accused me of doing things I did not do. When I tried to explain what was going on and what I had done he returned to the front counter with my watches and said "I'm not doing anything for you". I asked what I had done and he said he didn't like me, asked me to leave and walked away to his office. I was polite, respectful and quiet the whole time when speaking. I had been in the store a couple weeks earlier to have a ring appraised (at a cost of $90). I will never go back to Real Jem Jewelers and will spread the word of my bad experience. read more

I live in Minneapolis, but when I need to have any work done on jewelry that I own or need to have an opinion on a jewelry related question.....I travel to Shakopee to have Duane at Real Gem handle my jewelry needs...... Beth and the rest of the staff that work there are knowledgeable and contrary to other experiences I have had, really have my best interests in mind versus trying to make a sale or perform work that does not to be done.... Real gem botched my wedding ring. After sending it to their "goldsmith of 40 years experience" MULTIPLE times, having it for nearly a month, multiple visits to the shop, 3 jewelers (Beth, Ginger and Alex) gaslighting me and upcharging - I finally left tonight and I'm taking my ring elsewhere to have it corrected. I went in for my (new) engagement/wedding set to be soldered and resized. It's now completely scratched and bent on the bottom and misaligned in the soldering - left crooked and uncomfortable. I was charged additional for them to "completely remove and reset all of my stones" - only for them to claim they "did not touch my stones" once they realized they weren't aligned correctly. They told me my moissanites were cubic zirconium - and when I challenged it - they claimed their "tester was broken" and "their goldsmith just calls everything that isn't diamond CZ". That "I was bothering them and they were busy". They lost me in the system when I checked in on my ring - and told me tonight when I picked it up that my receipt went from $124 to $149 because of "tax"? What tax equates to $25? I went here to support a local business, but after a nightmare experience and walking out with a damaged once-in-a-lifetime piece and NO peace of mind... I should have just went to a big name nearby. Anyone looking at this ring can see that it's misaligned (from the work THEY DID) - yet you're telling me 3 jewelers and a goldsmith with 40 years of experience, all who've had the ring in their possession for nearly a month, can't (and actively spent time trying to convince me it's fine with magnifying glasses and microscopes)?? Run, don't walk, away from this place. Yikes. Update - the owner tried to bribe me to take down my review. Is saying silver just bends this way and it's "not his fault". Tried posting on my google review he "offered to correct the problem and I refused a refund" - but is full of it because when we tried to call him and work out a refund, he hung up on us, blocked our numbers and told us no. Reporting to BBB. Absolutely insane and explains why they're "positively reviewed" so well. Wouldn't trust anything for them online. Gross behavior. read more

We picked this place because of the reviews; I now believe they are only so well reviewed because the owner does whatever they can to get bad ones like ours removed. Left my wife's ring with them to have it resized and the 2 bands soldered together on Oct 21st with it to be completed on Nov 3rd. for $125. During that time they had it they called us to confirm it was ok to remove the stones since they were "cubics" that could not take heat and would be an additional charge of $25. This was not true at all, the stones were supposed to be moissanite. While those still can't take heat, we asked them to test the stones and confirm that they were in fact moissanites. We were now concerned that the ring we had purchased was not as advertised since the sizing was almost a size larger than what was ordered and now there was a possibility that the stones were incorrect as well. They said that they couldn't because, "the tester was broken". My wife went to go get the ring when it was ready. When she got there she noticed that the rings were misaligned and there was quite a noticeable gap on one side of the rings. She asked the clerk to take a look at it and see if she noticed it as well. The clerk tried to gaslight her, saying she couldn't see it and tried to get my wife to agree with her that it wasn't an issue and that the jeweler hadn't touched that part of the ring. Which was confusing to us since they had called us to confirm that he could take all of the stones out to resize the ring. My wife was persistent that it was an issue and it needed to be corrected. The clerk finally relented and agreed to send it back to have it fixed. Now the new estimate to get the ring back was Nov 17th. A week goes by and we get another call from Real Gem saying that they had our ring and that there was nothing the jeweler could do to correct the issue. Even though during this entire process they had been telling us everything to the effect of they had the best jeweler ever, and that he, "had been in the business for 40 years". My wife is very upset at this point so I go to collect the ring by myself on Nov 10th. The following Monday I called Real Gem and asked to speak with the owner, Duane, and see if we could sit down and talk about what had happened and what could be done to correct the issue. At this time my wife had left a scathing review on Facebook and Google detailing our experience. Duane and I sat down and spoke for about 45 minutes. During which he said, "he was willing to do what ever it cost to correct the issue" and, "work with us to make sure we were happy", BUT my wife had to take down her negative review. That any help we would get to correct the issue they created would only happen if we took down the bad review. Whether that be sending the ring back to their jeweler or a refund. At this point we were not confident in the jeweler's ability to correct the issue. So Duane agreed to let us think about what we wanted to do and get back to him. Today I called Duane to let him know that we would like our money back and we would simply take the ring to another jeweler to have it corrected. That we would be willing to correct the areas of the review he had issues with, areas that he said were "incorrect embellishments". To which Duane responded with he wasn't going to give us our money back because, "he didn't want to." He continued to try to gaslight me, saying that he had given me 3 days to respond and that I hadn't said anything so the offer was no longer valid. To which I told him I had the entire conversation recorded and that was never discussed or stated before I left their store. When I called him out on this he then tried to backtrack and say he would want think about it and get back to me. At this point I told him I was just going to file a dispute on the transaction and it felt like he was trying to take advantage of us just to get a bad review removed. To which he hung up on me mid sentence and has since blocked both mine and my wife's phone numbers. read more

I feel it's my duty as a consumer to warn others about this store. I brought in my only Swiss watch, a Frédérique Constant, that needed a new battery. The lady on the phone told me that "for repairs" they would send my watch to their "watch person", but that anyone at the store could take care of a simple battery replacement. That should have been a red flag, but I decided to give them a try. The lady finished changing the battery quickly, I paid the fee and left. When I got home I noticed that the back of my watch was badly scratched! I am extremely disappointed, if I had known they were going to do such a poor job and scratch my favorite watch, I never would have come to them. Do no trust your watch with these people! read more
