When I got into the Bible study, I found that it had been going on the entire time I was waiting for the staff to notify me. It was either incompetence or apathy, and maybe a combination of both. I think it was mostly apathy. I don't know if things have changed since....I appreciated having Glenkirk as the venue for two of my organ concerts for my doctorate. But as far as having the staff care about my spiritual growth, it was as distant as the east is from the west.

As a runner, its not easy to run all the way. For hikers, it will test you. Once on top of the ridge, the views are nixe, the workout can be challenging and the rest stops are welcomed. Parking is located within the open door church, but the trail can be accessed by a side route along a fenced trail. I did enjoy the benches that were provided by the local church, nice gesture. Pets welcomed on a leash. Based on the Glendora ridge mtwy. Once these attributes are added on, the rating is a strong 4 star.

I came on Feb…read more27th Friday ~1pm and it was a hot day for this time of year but not intolerable.... unfortunately tho there were so many bugs we got bitten hardcore so totally recommend bug spray, we only used sunblock since there isn't much shade. The trail is on the church compound which is super huge and very pretty we drove around to check it out... This isn't a beginner trail which is something other reviewers dont mention? The switchbacks are steep and curvy and many rock sliding areas, it also looks like it can get muddy you can see other animal tracks deep! There are random benches one was broken so be careful. We actually didn't make it all the way this time I think we were like 30 min short so we want to try again we did an hr up with small breaks to take pics and sit on benches. We had a 64 ounce water bottle and we drank it all fyi. We also ran into a rattle snake coming down, he warned us with his rattle and scurried away into the bushes and we also saw wild deer roaming the property! So be careful there are warning signs, ppl come here at night too but I dont think its a good idea cuz of those switch backs. Really pretty here, there was no one when we came super peaceful.

Come as you are, in your pj's, angry, tear stained, unmatched socks...you are home! There is never a shortage of grace, laughter or hugs. Kid's Ministry/Sun School is delightful. My little man is neurodiverse & they do a great job making him feel loved, welcome, safe & included. I never need to apologize, they meet him where he is at each week. As a single mom, many weeks I go in exhausted, depleted, overwhelmed, at my wit's end, and I always leave feeling light, rejuvenated, hopeful, grateful, calm & grounded. Pastor John delivers amazing sermons, he is well read, humble, has a gift for connecting seemingly unrelated dots & gently planting seeds. His wife Kate, is simultaneously the most grounded person I know, and yet, the free-ist spirit. There is always room for sharing your talents, gifts, suggestions. They have a worship team which will make you weap sing :) There is always coffee before service and lunch after. As well as a prayer team, who can provide individual prayers, should you need that, post every service. Whether you are 3 months old or 103 yrs old, you will feel accepted & want to dwell here. There are ample Life Together Groups and activities going on throughout the week. So there is always something pleasant to look forward to. Our two favorite events are Harvest Festival (Halloween weekend each yr) and the Spring Festival (Easter weekend each yr). Think carnival meets fair. Open the anyone in the community and free. I could go on and on...Even when we moved to UT, we would watch FVC sermons remotely. We feel so blessed to call this church our home church.

This might be interesting for someone to read. I remember the beautiful park next to the church where we go and I remember Badillo Avenue was very quiet at that time. On the street across from the church, where many beautiful old craftsman homes and old Home spread apart by large yards it seems some of those are gone. At least the old town behind the church is still there. However, I cannot get over how beautiful the church still was remembering the stained glass windows, gorgeous, wood, trim, and stonework. It is really a marvel to look at. I wish I could find a beautiful church like this where I live but my memories of this church I'm so grateful to have from the 1970s.

We decided to stop by, thinking we were going to give a little more to try to bless the church. When we got to the parking lot, THEY gave US a dollar and let us know that they were just out there washing cars, giving dollars, and blessing the community - no questions asked! We thought they were crazy, so naturally, we decided to check out their Sunday service to see what they were about. I gotta admit I wasn't convinced at first. Too many churches now-a-days preach what they think people want to hear. However, after about a month of attending church services, we knew this was our home church! Pastor Doug quickly became our mentor, friend, and therapist! Haha. In fact, he will be marrying us in about 2 weeks! He is very knowledgeable about so many topics and always preaches directly from The Bible. Pastor Doug is funny and so relatable, making it easier to understand difficult Biblical concepts that I've struggled with in the past. The church also has Grace Groups, which allow you to build relationships with other members that you might not have a chance to build on Sunday mornings. I've also never once felt pressured or obligated to give money, join the church as an official member, or forced to feel like I need to be a perfect Christian to be apart of their family. At the same time, God is definitely using Pastor Doug and the church members/staff to convict me to be more obedient to God, in the most loving and non-judgemental way possible. I joke with friends that I was so relieved to find out that they were "normal". They aren't on their pedestal looking down on me for barely coming back to God in the last couple of years. They hurt, feel sad, happy, angry, etc just like me! I've never felt more close to God and am INSTANTLY seeing how God is moving in my life - I'm letting go of past guilt, letting go of those feelings of not being good enough and finding my identity in Christ, learning how to let go of control/overthinking and letting Him do His thing...It's amazing!
