I come at writing this review from a unique perspective as I am both client and clinician. I…read morereached out to Ann Veilleux to talk about doing some work together regarding PTSD. She responded enthusiastically as she indicated she loved working with fellow clinicians. We began to form a therapeutic relationship from our very first contact and I was hopeful about the work that we were going to be able to do based on all that she has written about the way she works on her web page and on Quora. I had no concerns about her age, as she is 79. I hope to continue to do the work I love into my 70's so I believed, given how she represented herself, that she was careful to only do the work, invite the work with clients that she was capable of doing. There were some memory issues but I am able to offer grace and work with it. Over our short associations she made several comments about me not paying her when in reality I had paid her, promptly after each session via Zelle, her chosen method. It was annoying but manageable as I knew I had receipts. Then the gaslighting began. Suddenly, she asserted we were only doing a consult and recommendation. Her about face was quite stunning and completely counter to every single one of her communications prior to this about face. She made some feeble attempt at offering me recommendations but did not follow that up with any referrals for services. As a clinician myself, I had to remind her that if, in fact, this is what she was doing, it is usual and customary to provide credible referrals for what her recommendations were. It was beyond stunning to go from working with a clinician who presented herself, from our first conversation, as ready and willing to work with me to a defensive, gaslighting clinician who showed no empathy or kindness in how she summarily dismissed me. In her actions towards me she violated so many of the central tenets of being a good therapist that she gives great lip service to. Ann may have been a fine clinician in her day but I would not recommend her at her current state. Thankfully, I was not in crisis and have very effective coping skills, I fear what her actions would have done to someone coming to her in crisis. It is a tragedy that our field does not have a way to hold clinicians like this accountable. Please move on. Despite what you have read on her web page, Ann Veilluex is not at all the clinician she represents herself to be.
