Best haircut and balayage I've had on the Eastside. It's SO rare to find someone who can cut AND…read morecolor hair well and Jenn does both exceptionally. She takes her time to understand your hair type, growth cycles, texture, scalp health and how it might take to color. Color My goal was always to use balayage to add some natural dimension with my hair and to minimize the streaky look with grow out. I went from having to come in for a balayage 3 times a year at other salons to 1x/year, maybe 2 times if I want it to look great for an event or if I didn't want to have to sit in for a full balayage appointment. I have long and very thick straight hair, previous colors have gone brassy and I've never had that happen with Jenn's work. She also taught me how to better care for the color in a way that fits my lifestyle over trying to sell me on super expensive products. Cut She takes the time to understand how my hair grows out, which meant I committed to a few cuts with her to really dial in what cut will work with my hair and side swept bangs so that it doesn't grow out shaggy OR heavy. Because my hair is so thick and straight, my bangs typically will grow out and feel heavy leading me wanting to trim it every 2 weeks. With the way she has cut and styled my bangs, I'm able to extend that to a bang trim anywhere between a month to 1.5 months. When it comes to layering the rest of my hair, we've dialed it into a cut every 3-6 months depending on growth and sun exposure. Cut - Men's She also cuts my husband's hair. Yes she will take her time, but for someone who has thinning hair, a regular fade and buzz doesn't always work with his hair because you can see the fade lines. Jenn leads her cuts with education and my husband finally takes care of his scalp and hair as he's noticed a big difference in his hair health with Jenn's support. She's passionate about the art of cutting and styling hair and she's amazing at what she does. Booking in advanced is key as her schedule does fill up.

I went to Jenn with a long, coarse, salt-and-pepper beard I'd never had properly shaped. I told her…read moreroughly what I wanted, and left it to her judgment. She's a true artist. The chin and jawline were done freehand with shears, no guard, cutting to what she was seeing. She buffered the upper cheek line with a shorter guard to soften the ridge instead of leaving a hard carved edge, which looks far more natural. She also showed me how to hold the lines myself between visits. Same length family, completely different beard -- the shape works with my face now instead of against it. If you have a longer beard and want it genuinely shaped rather than just trimmed shorter, book 40 min beard service with her. Worth the time and the money.

However, I was able to book an appointment without paying the $50 deposit. Later, I received text messages stating that I could not schedule any future appointments until I paid the deposit because I had allegedly missed an appointment, but not thinking that it was actually booked until I paid it! This creates unnecessary confusion and miscommunication about whether the deposit is actually required. If the deposit is mandatory, the booking system should consistently enforce that policy, and not allow you to book without payment! I also do not appreciate being contacted through personal text messages regarding an alleged balance. If the business believes I owe a fee, I would expect a formal invoice or written documentation through the appropriate business channels. Repeated text messages requesting payment are not a professional way to handle billing matters. Definitely will take my 450.00 elsewhere!

For: Alyssa at Chromatique Salon…read more Yesterday, I had one of the most incredible and unexpected experiences. My husband and I were on our way to a wedding on Whidbey Island and had just missed the ferry we were hoping to catch. The silver lining was that it gave me a little extra time to finish my hair, which I had been hoping to do before we left home. I wanted to recreate the style I had worn for our own wedding--a middle part pulled back into a sleek, low bun. So there I was, standing outside our car in the ferry line, using the reflection in the car window as my mirror and attempting to make it happen with all the tools and supplies I had brought along. After a good 20 minutes, I finally gave up and decided I would just have to hope no one noticed the million bobby pins and elastic bands holding everything together. As a woman waiting in the car beside us walked by, I impulsively asked if she wouldn't mind telling me whether my hair looked alright--woman to woman! To my surprise, she told me she was actually a hairstylist and generously offered to take it apart and restyle it after I showed her a photo of what I was trying to achieve. I couldn't believe my luck. At that point, I probably would have accepted help from anyone, but what were the chances I happened to ask someone with 18 years of experience in the hair industry?! As she quickly and effortlessly worked on my hair, we started chatting and discovered even more coincidences: we were both named Alyssa (spelled the same way!), were the same age, and she worked at Chromatique in Gilman Village in Issaquah--a salon I've walked by hundreds of times. About 10 minutes later, my hair was pulled back into the most perfect, beautifully executed bun--honestly, even better than I had professionally done on my own wedding day! I offered to pay her or give her any of the food and drinks we had brought with us, but she politely declined and simply said she was happy to help. My hair stayed perfectly in place the entire night, and I received so many compliments. If this is the level of care and generosity Alyssa was willing to give a complete stranger, at a moment's notice and for nothing in return, I can only imagine the kind of service she provides her clients at Chromatique and the standards they have set as a salon. Life can be pretty incredible, and sometimes a completely unexpected encounter reminds you just how kind people can be. Thank you so much, Alyssa--not only for making my hair absolutely perfect for the wedding, but for reminding me how wonderful it is when a stranger goes out of their way to help someone simply because they can. I'll never forget it!

I expressed what I wanted and she listened intently and gave me a beautiful haircut. She cut my hair dry to understand the general shape, then cut it wet to make it even for when I style it.
