Save Our Strays

It all started when our cat, Emma, ran out of the house just before the Hurricane Irma hit the Clearwater, FL area. My wife and I spent days looking for her throughout the neighborhood - with very little progress though. We literally, turned Dunedin upside down looking for her. Anyway, several days after the fact our cat was missing we finally received a call from Save Our Strays, Inc., what seemed to be a call that would brighten our day - especially since our eight year old daughter had spent over a week crying her eyes out for Emma, even to the point of missing school - turned into a nightmare. The woman Linda, who placed the call to us was one of the most unprofessional people we have ever encountered. She was rude, arrogant, and certainly a "bottom of the barrel" volunteer, or employee, and even threatened to keep our cat. In fact, treated us like a criminal because out cat had gotten out of the house - who owns a cat who has never gotten out? She deliberately withheld the cat from us for several days, even after the fact of locating the owners (i.e., my wife and I). It was such a mess that my eight year old daughter demanded to have the police involved (which we were glad to do). So, while standing there in tears, my daughter was telling the officer what happened, and he was heated himself. He even pulled his phone out and called the hateful Old Bat - But go figure, she didn't answer the phone. Anyway, we finally received Emma back after the fact that Linda had sent her to a "foster home", because we apparently missed a phone call. Needless to say, she didn't show her face around Pet Smart when the exchange happened - and it's a good thing she didn't, because I was prepared for war when I walked in that place. My advice to you, is to avoid doing business with Save Our Strays, Inc., for two reasons: 1) Linda is a sorry excuse for a worker, and if they hire women or men like her they are doing a sorry job at seeking out qualified individuals with the competence required to adopt cats. 2) You may have to get the police involved, or experience high levels of stress if your cat ever runs out of the house.

I've come here for Blueberry back when I had my first sweet little dog, and now I come here for my Muffin. Whenever I go to Hyde Park for a cupcake at Sprinkles, I just HAVE to stop here for Muffin (because she will tug me here on her own) and buy her a tasty treat from the treat display case. They have tasty-looking seasonal goodies that Muffin loves. My latest purchase was two pumpkin cookies, four cookie-dough doggie bites topped with a mini milkbone. Muffin certainly has it made for a place to go get some gourmet goodies with her mommy!

This location is easy to walk to if you're already checking out Hyde Park; head behind BarTaco and discover a bunch more shops just off the main road including this one! When I stopped in just before Thanksgiving, they had started to put out a few Christmas items but also still had year round toys. They also had a treat bar with various types of gnawers like duck feet, turkey necks, and more. I wish there was more info provided about the gnawers, like where they came from and their benefits (i.e. helps with tartar build up, freshens breathe, helps with teething pups, helps with shiny coat, etc.) and also that they had more of a selection of grooming items like shampoos, brushes, and nail trimmers. Furthermore, the staff NEEDS to be more engaging with their customers/potential customers. When I was in the store with my friend, there was two other people also browsing and four employees behind the register. Not ONE came up to me or the other shoppers the entire time I was in there; instead they kept chitchatting amongst themselves. I ended up getting the toy in the picture along with two jingle collars and a stuffed toy, but if there had been any guidance from the employees about the gnawers, I probably would've picked up some of those too. Additionally, pricing wasn't super clear on the toys. Not every all the toys in the bin or display had a price sticker, so you either took a chance and brought it to the register or had to dig for a hot second to find the price sticker.
