Recess is definitely smaller in person than it looks in videos, but honestly, the kids didn't care. They played nonstop for an hour, and I think the biggest draw is having a bunch of other kids to run around and play with--not necessarily how much equipment there is. As a parent, I really liked the security. The kids have wristbands, alarms go off if doors are opened, and there were plenty of employees watching everything. I actually felt comfortable going upstairs to eat while they played. And if your kid starts crying, they'll call you right away. The food was a little slow and definitely not cheap, but surprisingly good. I liked the burger and fries, my son loved his steak taco, and my daughter demolished her salmon. If you're already in the city and need somewhere for the kids to burn some energy, Recess is a solid stop. read more

I'll preface my review by saying that we came on a very busy Sunday, and I have a feeling we would've had a more positive experience had we come on a less busy weekday. When we arrived, I asked the worker where to scan my reservation code, and she seemed to be completely overwhelmed by the number of children checking in. We ended up having to wait over 5 minutes just to get a wristband. That doesn't seem like a long time, but when you're paying $20+ for your child to play for only an hour, it's a little frustrating to spend part of that time just trying to check in. Once he had his wristband on, my son happily went into the play area and had a really good time. I will say, though, that I don't think there was enough supervision in all of the areas for the number of kids who were there. The workers seemed to do a good job keeping an eye on the slide area, but I saw quite a few fights break out between kids in the blue block area, and I definitely think there needs to be more supervision there, especially when it's that crowded. The bistro upstairs IS upscale and nice, and the food was good. However, I was a little annoyed that they weren't able to seat us at our reservation time. We ended up standing around with two hungry toddlers and a baby for 10+ minutes while waiting for our table to be ready. Again, I think a lot of these things probably would've gone more smoothly had there been fewer people there, but on a very busy Sunday, the overall experience just wasn't completely ideal. read more

Came here on a Saturday during peak hours 5/5 stars for friendly staff, clean bathrooms, food offerings & prices were fair, supervised play, parent work areas, bistro atmosphere . Also appreciated the fresh clean smells, not sure what it was, lime verbena or something- reminds me of resort 2/5 stars for safety. Upstairs, I really hated the booths with the stupid leather back cushion with belt and hooks, me and my kids bumped our heads on it a bunch of times...those are a hazard and should be removed. The 0-3 year old play area had too many hard surfaces where toddlers could bump their head as they are still learning how to walk and falling down and getting back up again. And I really hated that stupid plexi glass slide. That was a poor design choice. My baby went down the slide but I had to go around the structure to get her on the other side. There were big kids running around the 0-3 area and almost crashed into my baby. Especially with that stupid plexiglass slide where I could not get to my baby fast enough before another big kid tried to go down the slide and crash into her. 1/5 stars for design aesthetic is Scandi Soulless Beige Mom with unnecessary luxe details. Owners: since you are going to invest millions into a business like this why not have AI come up with more creative design ideas like Enchanting Wonderwoods or Cloud Dreamscape or Sweet Dessertland, etc. there are tons of themes you could have chosen from and you chose Beige Mom?!?! For premium prices familes are looking for unique experiences / more novelty. 1/5 stars for awkward facility layout, tight spacing in high traffic areas, no elevator in parking garage for strollers....and lack of adequate signage for bistro, tiny elevator, seating areas, etc. also fix the elevator, that loud boom noise when it stops is concerning. I really wanted to love this place because the concept is genuinely unique, and it's absolutely beautiful inside. My son and his cousin (both almost 3) visited today, and there are definitely some things they got right. When we arrived, the staff explained everything clearly, got the kids set up with wristbands that tracked their two-hour play session, and were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout our visit. We paid around $65 for two children to play for two hours, including socks. The layout is well thought out. There's a supervised play area for children ages 3 and up, a separate play area for children under 3 where parents can stay with them, a café with seating, an enclosed workspace in front of the big play area, and a restaurant upstairs where parents can eat while their children play. From a design standpoint, it's a really impressive concept. Unfortunately, that's where my praise ends. The café offerings were disappointing. The coffee was average, and the pastries were not fresh. We actually had to send a croissant back because it was rock hard. Considering the admission price, it's frustrating to then spend even more on food that doesn't match the quality of the space. My biggest concern, though, is the supervision. While the employees were doing their best, there simply weren't enough of them for the number of children in the supervised play area. During our visit, an older child left the 3+ play area, entered the toddler area, and hit both my son and my nephew before I stepped in, redirected him, and walked him back. I don't blame the staff, they were clearly outnumbered, but it highlighted that there were simply too many children for the level of supervision being provided. For that reason alone, we won't be returning. Once my son is old enough for the larger play area, I want to be able to personally watch him if that kind of roughness is overlooked. This concept is designed around parents being able to leave the play area or even go upstairs while staff supervise. I know that works for some families, but it isn't something I'm personally comfortable with. Overall, it's beautiful space with a creative concept and wonderful employees. Yet another place in Houston where the looks further outweigh the product. Between the high cost, underwhelming food, and what felt like inadequate supervision for the number of children present, the experience didn't justify the price for our family. read more

We were hoping for a fun brunch with friends and kiddos and sadly didn't get that. We waited an hour for our table that we had a reservation for. Once we finally got seated, we didn't have waitstaff. After 20 minutes, we got up to find help. We ordered, and my food had to get sent back twice and a child's food didn't come and had to be reordered. We also had to ask multiple times for silverware and waters as they weren't provided. The place space was cute and seemed well managed. Would sadly not recommend eating at the restaurant. read more

Sheesh, some people in the reviews have clearly never created a concept from scratch that was busy from day one that clearly experienced some kind initial new business growing pains. Give them some grace! And let me tell you, it'll be in your best interest to ignore those reviews and come here as quickly as you can with your kiddos! The food was great. We had a chicken Caesar salad, chicken bites for the kids and then we ordered a small cheese pizza. The staff (especially Gabby!) was super nice. Love the concept and I am so excited they've been so busy. Really disappointed to see negative reviews, as I know this place was built out of love - you can see it in the details. Being a new business that gets busy quickly is hard, not to mention training all of your staff. They are better off if these grouchy people that left these reviews never return. Leaves more room for the rest of us that appreciate the concept, customer service and well designed environment. Can't wish to come back with my husband and friends next time!
