She was late to filing paperwork with the courts, did not return phone calls, and had an excuse for everything. Yet we received an invoice from her for all of her hardwork that she claimed to have done but there is no evidence that she actually did anything. She's a poor excuse for an attorney. Save your money and go elsewhere.

When going thru a divorce, you need someone to help guide you thru the entire process. I researched…read moremany attorneys and thought Linda was going to be the one who could help me thru this terrible time. I paid the retainer upfront at our consultation and thought this was the right thing. It was very difficult trying to get a hold of her. At our first initial hearing with the court commissioner, her sister showed up. I had no idea it was her sister that was going to be there that day. A random lady just walked up to me and asked if I was a client of Linda's. I've never met her or talked to her before. Neither Linda or her office sent me a courtesy email or some sort of communication that her sister would be there instead. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, it did. Lisa knew NOTHING about my case and I walked into the hearing that morning like as if I was representing myself. I am truly disappointed on how things turned out. I ended up terminating my services with her and had asked for whatever retainer money was left for them to just forward to my new attorney and they told me that I had actually "exhausted" all the funds and actually went over my retainer, but Linda was just going to "write it off." Funny as she never responded to any emails or show up for my first hearing, yet she "exhausted" all of my retainer. For anyone looking for some sort of guidance and someone who will help you, don't go to her for a divorce or child custody battles. When I started my search again and spoke to many attorneys, as soon as I told them that I was previously with Linda Vanden Heuvel and what the issue was, ALL of them said that's the same story they hear with other people. So it seems this is something they do often. Due to the lack of their effort and carelessness, it was extremely challenging for me to have the ruling be reversed. I eventually did with my new attorney and glad I chose the new attorney! Please save your time, energy and money and do not hire her! There are more compassionate and helpful attorneys out there who will see you thru to the end and make you feel like you do have a voice!

I cannot tell you how many times I have called Eric's office, upset and he's been more than a lawyer. His listened and then responded appropriately. He certainly talks through the legal implications but more importantly has never discounted my feelings. -He's reasonable Eric has also worked intentionally to mitigate our bill. RUN! SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY. My experience with this attorney was extremely disappointing…read morefrom start to finish. I consistently felt underrepresented while being heavily overbilled. A perfect example: I was billed more time for him forwarding an email than the Guardian ad Litem billed for writing the entire thing. That wasn't a one-off -- this kind of disproportionate billing happened multiple times and quickly added up. His Zoom appearances were also incredibly unprofessional. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the camera was pointed up his nose for a large portion of the hearing. The other attorney suit and tie, we'll setup... Mine the inside of his nose.... The setup looked careless, the appearance was slovenly, and the overall presentation did not inspire confidence -- especially considering for that 15 minute status conference where he ignored my requests, and the judge commented that if the next court date would be similar lets just do it via zoom. That was if memory servers a greater than $1000 dollar 15 minute appearance. So, It is my feeling that I had to have been charged for him getting dressed too. Between the lack of advocacy, the excessive and uneven billing, and the unprofessional virtual presence, I cannot recommend this attorney to anyone. I regret hiring him and I feel he did nothing to help. He made 1 appearance in physical court room for a 15 minute status conference. I dont believe he drafted a single motion, got me yelled at by the commissioner for filing a letter, and for this I was charged ~7k. Do not give him a retainer. I hope others avoid the same experience.

He sent a non-notarized version of our prenup to the other attorney, resulting in the other attorney spending more time trying to get things sent again the correct way. He failed to properly charge my wife's credit card, resulting in an additional call. He raised his voice with me on the phone multiple times, even hanging up on me. He charged a $1100 retainer for reviewing a simple (13 page) prenup, then asked for even more money on the back end! The attorney that drafted the agreement gave us a refund on his already smaller retainer. So apparently attorney Zeckel needs more time to read a document than other attorneys do to create one. Stay FAR AWAY from this guy.

By reading Melissa L's review, it seems to me that she is angered more by the situation that she put herself in, and when she was presented with the solutions to her issues, she got angry that they were not what she expected. I did not expect a guaranteed outcome, but I absolutely expected someone who would know the law, prepare me for the process, communicate with me, and advocate for me in court. I did not receive that from Lindsey Houghton. From the beginning, I had to chase my own attorney for answers. Very little of the legal process was explained to me, and I was constantly calling and emailing with basic questions because I wasn't being kept informed. Responses were often delayed, leaving me to figure out far too much on my own. What was most frustrating was that I was initially told my role as the children's primary caregiver and my documented safety concerns would be central to our argument. Then, immediately before the first hearing, the strategy completely changed without any meaningful explanation. I walked into court completely unprepared for what was about to happen. The hearing itself lasted about ten minutes. Opposing counsel presented their position while my attorney offered virtually no advocacy for mine. When it was finally her turn to speak, she mumbled through her comments, was interrupted by the commissioner, and then simply stopped. She never redirected, never asked to finish, never made sure my position was fully presented, and never fought to have my concerns heard. Afterward, her explanation was essentially that the commissioner cut her off and there was nothing she could do. That answer was unacceptable to me. I didn't hire an attorney to give up the moment she was interrupted. That hearing set the tone for the rest of my case. My concerns were about the children's safety, yet I left feeling that I had been portrayed as a controlling parent instead. I expected my attorney to clearly distinguish between a parent raising legitimate safety concerns and a parent trying to control the other parent. She didn't. After the hearing, instead of discussing how to address what had happened or how to better present my case moving forward, I was told this was how things were going to be, that I needed to cooperate, and that if I wasn't happy, I could find another attorney. Looking back, I honestly feel like I paid thousands of dollars to have someone sit next to me while my case was pushed through the system. I could have represented myself, spoken for myself, and walked away with a better result without paying for representation that, in my experience, provided little meaningful value. I hired an attorney because I expected expertise and advocacy. I did not receive either, and I cannot recommend this attorney to anyone facing a custody case.
