***Update Oct 20,2025*** After finding them overbilling me, they've now requested and been granted release from representing me. Don't believe all of the fake reviews they've been piling on since I've left this review. This law firm are snakes and will rip you off if you have to do Chapter 13. ********** I've been overbilled thousands of dollars by Steve Berg. Steve would call me to ask me questions and would take a question that took 5 minutes to answer and turn it into a 45 - 60 minute call. Then he would call me again days later because he "misplaced" my answer. So, another 45-60 minute call. Then he would call a week or two later asking the same question. Each and every time I was billed for full hours for Steve Berg. I had suspected something was going on so I demanded all communication happen via email. Steve Berg got upset and stopped communicating completely, even important case issues. He emailed a couple of times but eventually went back yo his old tactics of multiple phone calls regarding the same issues over and over again. I've been billed for tax return review and submit to the trustee but then months later I get a notice that my return was never sent to the trustee and my case was set for dismissal as a result. When they did finally send them, they billed me again. This has happened twice. read more

I was represented by an attorney at this firm. I had two appointments in the very beginning and had not seen or heard from the attorney until my mortgage company told me they were going to try to go the the bankruptcy court to foreclose, my payments were made but the mortgage was sold, which they notified the attorney of this but since he moved he had not updated his address, I made the corrections that needed to be done, to have the same thing happen again two years later, this time I was able to talk to a secretary, after many emails I by myself again fixed the situation. Unfortunately payments that were returned to my attorney had never been recovered. so I have personal checks floating around out there somewhere . Only nine payments. Finally , I received documents from the court, to finalize,my case for the discharge which when hired the attorney told me he would see through to the end, but I did not get a very small detail sent to me. The attorney was notified by the court and because he failed to do his address update mail was returned to the court and my case was closed with out a discharge. So now creditors have started to file on my record again, After five years of paying absoulutely everything I was to pay, The only comment I got from this attorney at this firm was" HE CANT babysit everyone." I would never recommend this firm to anybody, by the way, it costs 250 dollars to reopen the case another 400 dollars for attorney fees . for a simple process that costs $39.00 . I found ESSERLAW on google. Their website offered a free consultation so I took them up on it. We did the consultation over the phone because my wife had the car. Attorney Esser offered some budget counseling advice on paying down credit card debt, and my other bills. Who'd have thought that I could get a little direction and correct my situation on my own...for Free?!! I know that I'm not out of the woods yet, but I wanted to pay it forward. This is a horrible business. These lawyers are the reason that people hate lawyers. On a recent visit (after paying them) we were verbally abused, yelled at and asked why we were wasting their time, and this is after we had paid them! this is a bad business and I don't want anyone else to go through what we went through with them. bankruptcy is already a tough thing to go through, no one needs the added stress of being yelled at by someone you are paying to help you.
