This review honestly breaks my heart to write…read more I've known this shop since the early 2000s -- pre-2007, back when it was a real staple in the neighborhood. I'm talking about my entire high school years. My friends and I practically lived there. We bought mixtapes, sneakers, chopped it up -- we probably had more attendance in that store than we did in school. If you're from the Bronx, you already know the era I'm talking about. Back then, the place meant something. It was part of the culture. Unfortunately, what it's become now is the complete opposite. The owner's business practices are not honest, and that's the hardest part for me to say -- because he's known me since I was a kid. Despite that, I was sold sneakers under questionable circumstances, including tags being cut out, and when I tried to return them, I was flatly refused. No resolution. No accountability. That experience stuck with me because it showed a pattern: upcharging, no flexibility, and no respect for the customer -- even longtime ones. And when I started checking reviews later on, I realized I wasn't alone. Others have said the same things. I left the neighborhood, went to college in New York, lived upstate, lived in California, and came back. Every time I stopped in hoping things had changed -- they hadn't. If anything, the business felt further removed from what made it special in the first place. Mixtapes aren't even a thing anymore, which was the main reason many of us supported the shop back in the day. Without that, all that's left is the way customers are treated -- and that's where this place continues to fall short. This isn't written out of spite. It's written out of disappointment. Sometimes communities outgrow businesses, especially when they stop serving the people that built them. As someone who supported this shop from the beginning, I can honestly say I no longer recommend shopping here, especially for sneakers. I hope the space eventually goes to a business that treats the neighborhood -- and its longtime customers -- with respect.

Such a cute store set in the heart of the theater district. Downstairs has lots of anime. Upstairs…read morefiction and non-fiction. I love that it's a store where you can sell and purchase. I feel the prices were very reasonable, even though I saw some comments about people saying the books are overpriced. No one bothered us when we spent quite a while looking through the various shelves and it felt like a very calm environment in a busy city. Left with a few books so the trip was a hit.

Buying and Selling at Book Off What a cool store. So much to…read moresee. Unfortunately, it is lousy to sell at and expensive to buy at. First, Selling. I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.
