In early February, my 93 year old Mama became very ill and had to be taken, via ambulance, to the…read morehospital where she was diagnosed with Influenza A and Sepsis. She stayed in an acute care hospital for one week and was transferred to Paradise Valley Manor and Health Care Center in National City, CA, to get her strength back before she was able to go home and be independent once again. Upon arrival, we marveled at how neat, clean, and beautifully appointed the facility was inside. The two ladies at the front desk, Sandra and Karina, couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. The various staff members greeted my precious Mama with smiles and compassion and were all so very kind. The Administrator, Aaron Burrup, came in and introduced himself. He shook her hand and made her feel right at home. Amanda, from Admissions, made sure she was comfortable in her room. Her Charge Nurses, Megan, Judy, Edwin, Marisol, and Mila were very helpful and accommodating and worked with us as we shared our concerns. Faye, Karina, and Utzhi, her attentive medication nurses, made certain they continued her regular medicinal regime and if she had a special need, immediately got Doctors orders to help her with whatever arose. Her CNA's were outstanding. Esmer, Cita, Vilma, Cynthia, and Edwina treated my sweet Mom with the same love and compassion they would treat their own Mothers. They would greet her with cheerful smiles and warm hellos many times every day. They sang to her, helped her with her daily personal needs, tenderly helped her shower, neatened her room, and made her laugh. How important these things are when you are yearning to be home to be with your family. They truly become a lifeline. The housekeepers were amazing at keeping everything neat and clean. I never smelled urine or any other unpleasant odors the entire time my Mom was a patient in this facility. Her Physical Therapist, Rayne, was extraordinary. Whereas upon arrival, my Mom was so weak and dreaded therapy, Rayne encouraged her and cheered her on as she worked hard and built up her strength. He gave her the support and fortification she needed and taught her skills she will use the rest of her life. Her Occupational Therapist, Lauren, was so patient and thoughtful as she shared her expertise with my Mom so she could eventually go home and live independently again. These two Therapists infused their strength into my Mom and are the reason she is so much stronger now. With the collaboration of this hard-working, dedicated team, my darling Mama was able to go home today in better shape than before her illness. They provided excellent care for her, both physically and emotionally. Our family is extremely grateful and appreciative to the entire Staff of Paradise Valley Manor and Health Care Center.

I hope my review inspires others to follow the instructions from their physical therapist after in home visits. As I left a positive review based on our , my mom's and mine as care giver first experience. From start of Eli's physical therapy last November 2016 through Mid January 2017 my mother had stopped needing her walker, and takes her cane as security only on leaving the house. She stayed with exercise plans Eli had shown and trained us to do. 6 days a week 20 minutes to 30 minutes a day . We have had Eli come back for a review of mom's therapy, and general condition especially mobility and balance. The review has been engaging some new exercises, alterations to old ones, adjustments for sore knee. Valuable help and wonderful service. Eli is super patient and professional. He's extremely knowledgeable on comprehensive health for older folks. Thanks Again, Eli, and Kindred. We'll stay with the exercise.

However, as i read your review , I was shocked at what you stated in your review! Covid was a scary illness that we should have took caution when everything was starting to open up again after the pandemic, I would be hellbent if my mother ended up with severe medical problems caused by negligence, however i witness first hand how her drivers would park, turn their van off, and walk to her to test her temperature and hand her a fresh clean mask. I still had my concerns and decided to personally drop my mother off at the program where i saw them test other seniors at the front door. Now we are in 2023, Covid is still around but not as impactful as before since we no longer need to constantly wear our masks. i still have my concerns and will sometimes bring my mother in to see if they are still taking precautions about the illness, and the nursing staff jumps as soon as they hear coughing and will strongly recommend for the person to wear a mask. My opinion about the staff has always been positive, I got to know the Nursing staff well and most of them were really friendly except for one of the nurses she was short and had a mean face, she looked like she was their against her will and her negativity was very vocal. I believe her name was Claudia or Claudette, however i have not seen her for a great while, which fortunatley for the better. Like i said in the begining, my mother has nothing but positive things to say about the program and prays for its staff member and wishes to continue seeing her friends at Open Arms.

Physical therapist at the hospital was not good at all, they would walk in demand I sat up, one even tried to rough arm me to keep me up. Then as I needed more time to heal, I was transferred to la mesa healthcare, I was scared, never had to be in a trained nursing facility. I have to say that first night I was terrified (drug induced) my day 1, nightmares over. The staff treated me with great dignity and concern for me, yes it was about me, and my needs. I was not happy to be anywhere but home, as I was told by my surgeon should be the norm. I was sharing a room, but my roommate an elderly gentleman was so nice. Even he would get up in the morning go with his walker to the bathroom, bringing back a clean, warm wash cloth for me to freshen up. Expectations were set for my stay, upsetting thinking it would be two weeks. Then came physical therapy, my first time my therapist understood my pain and did some in bed therapy. Then came Chris, my guardian angel physical therapist, he worked nearly 45 minutes getting knots out of my neck and shoulders. The entire team of physical and occupational therapists were amazing, within 5 days I was on my way home they had me up and walking and exercising in the gym. I am home now, I can't thank all the staff at la mesa healthcare enough. You pulled me out of my very scary nightmares state, that I thought would never end. I have to say even the food was very good. The kitchen staff cater to everyone's individual needs. Kudos to you all, my heart felt thanks always, when I'm fully recovered, I will be back to thank you all in person. 5 stars earned without question.
