Absolutely wonderful and enlightening tour. Mike was the best and was very well-informed. In fact, when we left, I had asked Mike to send me the list of books and media that he'd read to inform himself about Birmingham's history, and he sent an extensive list of books, videos, and other media. We highly recommend the tour and Red Clay.

We enjoy taking walking food tours, so we thought that we would venture out and take part in the Brewery Tasting Tour. Clay was great and is a tremendous wealth of knowledge about Birmingham. Clay picked us up at our hotel so we did not have to drive anywhere. Clay kept us informed about pick-up times via text and texted us the morning of the tour to make sure we were comfortable with the arrangements. On the tour, we started at Railway Park and learned about the layout of Birmingham including many of the local landmarks. This was a welcomed introduction to the city. We then headed to the breweries. At each of the three breweries, we got to try four different beers. Clay was able to describe the history of the brewery and tell us about their specialties and unique beers. Clay ask for our feedback on the beers at each and used that information at the next brewery. We had a great time, with great conversation. It was like going to each of the breweries with an old friend.

The site of one of the worst acts of terrorism in American history.

I have been on historical tours all over the globe in places such as Kenya, London, Berlin, Asheville, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Amsterdam just to name a few. This tour in Birmingham was the absolute best historical tour I have ever been on! Clay gives wonderful historical analysis and reflection while tying the past to current events in Birmingham. He showcased the importance of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth to the Civil Rights Movement among with the other local leaders and churches that were on the ground changing Birmingham, Alabama, and the world. If you are in Birmingham, I highly recommend this tour as Clay is well-read, passionate, and gives a great presentation of historical and present day Birmingham. I honestly was not expecting to be blown away on this tour but Clay was the best tour guide I have ever come across!

Just went on the best city tour I've ever been on. The tour was led by a born and raised resident of Birmingham with a clear passion for its history, not a college kid needing a summer job and reading from a script. The tour was in depth and thoughtful and my family and I got a real understanding of life during the civil rights movement. Because the civil rights institute is closed due to COVID, this tour is the perfect way to explore and understand what was going on at the time. I highly recommend it. The tours are limited to the size of your group, the buses are sterilized, and everyone wears a mask- so we all felt safe the entire time. Please take the tour and support local small businesses!!!!

Inside to the right is a Ron filled with novelty's of wine products (including their wine jelly which is wonderful!!!) The tasting counter is beautiful! Hand made from wood by the owner. High shine and Gorgous grain! The whole shop is cute and decorated pretty with fun table and chairs, accents that make it homey and inviting. Our host, Kaylen, was wonderful. Very informative and fun to chat with. She made us welcome and offered some neat ideas of how she uses the wine jellies as a meal base in cooking! Their wines were nice, not overly sweet (a couple sweet options) we opted for a wonderful Riesling. I don't usually go white but theirs was bright, refreshing and not much tannin. I purchased it to go with a seafood dish! Can't wait to open it! Tip: no food or snack tray options available. They don't have signature glasses to buy.

This museum gives a historical account of how Negroes formed their own league in the South and how great they were at playing professionally with very little resources. I was invited to the Negro Southern League Museum's annual celebration as a guest. What a wonderful and heartfelt event. I had the opportunity to meet and admire some of the local players that played in Major League Baseball along with some of Birmingham's public and civic leaders. Although, I've toured the museum before, it was still amazing to see the old uniforms, read about the history of Negroes in baseball and how great they were at a time when they were not being recognized for their greatness! Yes, it was a struggle, but as history has taught us "Greatness" is usually born out of struggle. So, visit the museum, take your family and friends. Most of all take the children, they deserve to learn about how "Greatness" can be born out of struggle. I will continue to go back each year to celebrate America's history of Negroes in baseball.
