GRATEFUL: For the owner calling when I felt defeated over extra fees for our postponed event due to weather.

The driver, Annette, was extremely helpful -- she coordinated with the other drivers and organized a second shuttle.

We no longer fly so it's great we love the choo choo. This is the Crescent line that goes from New Orleans, which is under 8 hours by train and all the way to New York City. This is a decent Amtrak station that's open 24/7 365 with security present, and shares the terminal with Greyhound bus. Same-day parking is available for free but Amtrak cannot guarantee that a parking space will be available at the time of your trip. Overnight parking is also available with a nice big lot a block from the station itself. It is a staffed station with a ticket sales office, with restrooms and vending machines and an is ATM available. There are no Amtrak ticketing kiosks, payphones or WiFi and no elevator however there's an accessible platform that's barrier-free path from the drop-off area outside the station to the train platform. Wheelchair lift is available and for passengers who can't walk far or at all, they offer a wheelchair to help move around within the station. Unaccompanied child travel allowed from this station. This is a clean and comfortable station with helpful staff on hand, it's bright and airy with adequate outlets for charging your electronics throughout. Bottom line: It's not a NYC, DC or Philly station but it's got most of the amenities for departures and arrivals for our needs.

Everything seems to be dated and out of order which is frustrating because not too far down the road Amtrak has redone their entire terminal and to my understanding there's more bus traffic than train traffic.

If you do this, you'll have great respect for the Birmingham Greyhound station. I took a bus from Nashville, TN at 3:45am to Birmingham at 7am to connect to the Amtrak at noon. Nothing really opens in this city until about 9am, so I slept at the station until about 8:30am. A staff member woke me up to know where I'm going, so I told him I was waiting for a business to open up for breakfast. He was delighted to show me a spot a block over that just opened, and I wound up getting a friendly escort from another staff member who wanted to grab some brekkie as well. Since America isn't allowed to have lockers in transport depots anymore, they were kind enough to hold my bag while I went about town. They gave me directions to the Museum of Civil Rights and the Public Library, which were only a few streets away! Greyhounds have a knack for being in dodgy areas of town, but I'd say safety isn't too much of a factor in the early morning for sure. I'm really wowed by this Greyhound! Good job guys!

When I was told that it would take 5 to 20 minutes. I was also told the the driver would contact me upon arrival. The driver NEVER CONTACTED ME. Birmingham is a smaller city so this was the only MAJOR event going on that day. My boyfriend and I were so hot and decided to call it a night and call a cab. We asked to be picked up at Moe's BBQ, there is only one location in the downtown area and the operator had no clue where we were talking about. You should probably learn the area before becoming a dispatcher. So on the day of a MAJOR event in Birmingham I find it extremely unacceptable they had no cab to pick us up. Also, we left way before the event was even over so it's not like a ton of the attendees were looking for cabs simultaneously. As a result we walked two miles home risking our safety because of this incompetent company. If zero stars were an option, they deserve that.
