I had previously been traveling to my hometown for my annual checkups, but finally decided to find a doctor in D.C. My insurance provider suggested Dr. Sedghi as an option, so I decided to try her out. I will be going back! I was able to get scheduled within the week when I called for an appointment and the office staff was polite. Everything went smoothly once I got there. Their building is very nice and high tech, and my paperwork was done quickly. My appointment was for 1:45 and it was about 1:55 when I got called in, which I feel is an acceptable amount of time to wait. The nurse who took care of me at the beginning was super friendly and chatty, and made everything a breeze. Once I was done with the nurse, I only had to wait about 5 minutes for Dr. Sedghi. Even though it was the first time I had met her, Dr. Sedghi was SO warm and kind that I felt like I had been going to her for years! The check-up was comfortable, professional, and quick. I had a few questions about different birth control options and she gave me tons of information and pamphlets before I left and personally explained them to me. Dr. Sedghi even offered to do regular bloodwork for me because I don't have a primary care doctor which was very much appreciated. You can tell that Dr. Sedghi loves what she does and loves interacting with her patients. I would totally recommend her, and the practice in general!

She will answer all your questions without making you feel silly, and will make you feel like you're her ownly patient despite the always busy waiting room. I live in Northern Virginia and will make the trek up 66 just to see her when I can. Her practice has a lot of doctors, but I will only go to her. Now for the negatives her office staff was HORRIBLE, some of the rudest people I've ever met. However the last time I went there looked like there was a complete overhaul as everyone behind the counter was new. They weren't overly friendly but they were MUCH better than the previous employees. The other negative is the clientele. Since the closing of DC General, I've noticed a big difference in the people in the waiting room. Several times I've had to listen to ignorance, which drives me crazy. One woman cussed out the office staff because she was 45 minutes late to an appointment and they wouldn't take her (which may explain the attitude from the previous employees). . Hasn't been too much of a problem, but having lived in NOVA for the past 3 years it is always a big of a culture shock. Northwest Nurse Practitioner Associates to me represented everything that a family practice should embody and that is now missing in the health care system : empathy, compassion, knowledge, detailed-oriented, patience, confidence, trust, passion. I found all of the above qualities visiting Erin every years for the past 7 years and that last encounter (over the phone) with the manager was the complete opposite of what I was accustomed to hence my disbelief. I have the utmost respect for her and what she has built over the years and my decision to update my review is solely based on those 7 years. I do not believe that one incident should erase the consistent positive interactions and great care I have received from NWNP over the years. I want to believe that there was a miscommunication between me and the manager and it was not his intend to make me feel unheard. And that was true during that time. But something changed significantly as she transitioned to a sort of direct primary care practice and functional medicine practice. The practice seemed more impersonal. For example she tried to direct me away from monitoring my liver scores when I started taking statins. Although she had previously had the position that medications always have risks in promoting alternative medicine considerations and I had told her of my brother's death from non alcoholic cirrhosis due unmonitored prescription of cholesterol medication she tried to talk me out of the monitoring. At one point I had told her I didn't want to die from cirrhosis her reply was that there were worse ways to die.

She is simply the best, most caring and thorough doctor I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She always listens and helps me follow up with all of my concerns, and I trust her implicitly. Furthermore she takes time to fully explain any and all of my tests, including bloodwork and various tests completed by my other doctors. I never walk out of her office without a copy of results as well as her suggestions for various products or specialty doctors. Several of the comments here include Dr. Myers along with other doctors but only give 4 stars. Dr. Myers, however, should be reviewed separately, as she only deserves 5 or more stars. Lastly, the office has a relatively new administrative assistant at the front desk, a gentleman who is a absolutely a pleasure to encounter and wonderful at following up.

Sadly, I have to temporarily update my review in the hopes that the doctors of the office will…read morereconsider the road they are on; make staffing changes and care orientation changes; and resume accepting insurance. As far as Dr. Mills goes, I understand how some other reviewers could give her a negative rating, because she does have a certain way about her that can be misinterpreted. But she really is smart and great, it's just the practice's increased emphasis on cost-cutting and speed, and her trying to increase productivity as others seem to tell her is better, when it is not, and she is better than that. The change in reviews here and on other websites over time is noticeable, where people used to talk about how great the doctors, including Dr. Mills were, and how much time Dr. Mills spent with patients and really caring for and about patients, while newer reviewers talk about how quick and curt she seems. I believe it is a function of someone telling her that is how to increase productivity, and (thought some of the staff are really good and nice) because she has certain staff that have no care for the patient and only want to rush patients, and even rush Dr. Mills. Being a primary doctor is calling, and the relationship that patients have with their GPs is much different then with other doctors. Dr. Mills has the ability to be one of the great ones, but she has to follow her caring soul, and not what her staff say or what she is told will make more money. Dr. Mills and the other doctors also need to recognize that staff should not be able to run the direction of the practice or treatment of patients as some do. Things are only worse for many of us, since they stopped taking insurance and charging well above insurance allotments. Again, somebody must have convinced Dr. Mills that was a way to make more money - likely staff who did not want to deal with billing codes - but it is not. Some offices cut their prices after stopping to take insurance, but this office charges more. Most people just cannot afford to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for basic doctors visits, and in the end, we all go to less doctors visits and get less medical care than than we need, and they get less patients then they need. It's a lose-lose. So, I would encourage you to still try Dr. Mills, but encourage her to be her caring self, and take time, and not be rushed by staff who seem to control things, and not to make the practice an assembly line. Care for patients, take insurance, spend the time, be nice - and everyone will profit in money, happiness and soul. I am really happy I went with her - she takes a detective approach to the body and treats it as a whole, instead of slapping a prescription for one part of the body. Today when I said we were going to her doctor my 2.5 year old kept repeating "I am so excited" and "this is the best day ever!" Dr. Lang and Beth follow up with phone calls when my daughter has been sick and are overall very caring and supportive. And the specialists they have referred us to have all been good. In the past we have experienced long wait times but that has resolved. Also, having a pharmacy on the first floor of the building is very convenient. I feel lucky to have found such a caring pediatrician!!

The front desk staff was consistently rude, the dr was rarely…read morethere (apparently there was a health issue with someone in her family but we weren't informed) and we mostly saw medical students, you have to buy and pick up your own vaccines (even though they have a pharmacy downstairs they work with it is one extra step that with a newborn and anxiety I didn't want to do), and there were extra charges for a concierge service that felt to me like they were all about the money and not about the practice of medicine and treating patients. Dr. Lang was very nice when we did see her but overall I did not like the feel of the office. I also wanted to be somewhere I could call after-hours with a question or come on the weekend if I needed too without paying a concierge fee. Like I said, this office just wasn't for us. I didn't really do any research prior to going here because she was a recommendation from my OBGYN office (which I loved)-but I would recommend researching any new dr prior to going. The culture of the office wasn't what I wanted. I love our practice now and felt at home the minute I walked in the door. My daughter is now two and was only at this practice for about three months back in 2016.
