Our decision to buy a new home from Renaissance Homes was driven by a desire to minimize…read moremaintenance and repairs. However, just two years into living in our 2-1/2 year old home (we're the first and only owners), multiple appliances have failed, parts of the furnace needed replacing (multiple times), the generator constantly malfunctions due to incorrect installation, the tankless hot water heater has had issues AND was installed incorrectly (to the point we've had to have it re-plumbed for simple maintenance), the rain gutters are too small for the home, faucets have broken, and rain water drainage issues have caused damage to our neighbor's property. This list goes on... We feel deceived by Renaissance's apparent corner-cutting during construction, despite charging a premium. If considering them for an existing or custom-built home, caution is advised.

He was very slow and ran us way over budget (he essentially billed us 89.00 per hour to put in tile, and he seriously billed us for 48 hours of tile work to put in 45 pieces of 12x24 tile). When we would ask for estimates to finish, he gave an estimate, and then took twice as long as his estimate. When we confronted him, he literally said, it's time and materials, it is what it is. We finally had him stop work when he was close to 50% over our original estimate (and he STILL wasn't finished). The final quality of work was so bad, we had to hire a new contractor and have all the tile torn out and start over. Be careful!

Prior to the beginning of work, Jim gave us a spreadsheet detailing what would be done by who and when. Throughout the work, he communicated with us frequently advising us what was happening and what would be done next. He worked with us all the way through, helping us make the necessary decisions that we needed to make and purchase the things that we agreed to purchase. Jim works with a group of small, family owned subcontractors who have the same work ethic as Jim. They all were fantastic. The work was great, finished on time and in budget. JR Johnson has been handling the repairs in my apartment building following significant fire and…read moresprinkler-related water damage. Unfortunately, my experience with this company has been extremely frustrating. The work has been going on for over two months, and despite repeatedly asking the workers who have been in my apartment for a timeline, none of them seem to have any idea when the work will actually be completed. What is even more concerning is that the project manager apparently cannot provide a timeline either. As someone who works as a project manager myself, I understand that unexpected issues can affect a project schedule. What I do not understand is having absolutely no clear understanding of where a project stands, what work remains, what the next steps are, or even an estimated completion date. A competent project manager should be able to break a project into its individual components, establish milestones, identify dependencies, and provide at least a reasonable projected timeline--even if that timeline has to change. Instead, every person I speak with seems to have a different--or no--answer. Meanwhile, residents are left living with the consequences of an ongoing construction project with no end in sight. Delays happen. Unforeseen problems happen. Having no idea when your own project will be completed is a management problem. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you have a choice. I would not hire JR Johnson.

They were able to fit me in the next day and get the job done, using all the materials that I already had on site. About as professional a company as one could hope for. I never met the team in person, but handled all the work via phone and could see their work and actions via full coverage surveillance system. Everything was done to the highest quality, and I was provided with multiple photos of the work during and after completion. After completion, I offered to pay more somewhat as a "tip" since their level of service deserved it, but they wouldn't have it. While I expect my roof to last for decades, I would love to find additional roofing projects in the future for the company. I hope that I can provide them additional work by reference at the very least - they deserve to be one of the more successful contractors around.
