Admittedly, I wasn't actually thinking about a SCUBA trip on this vacation and we just happened upon Red Hook Dive Center. It's been 5 years since I last dove and I had never been on an ocean dive. Living in Kentucky limits my access to beaches but we have plenty of lakes, rivers, and quarries. We went in to purchase some souvenirs for our sons and I just asked on a whim if the young lady (Coralie) knew of any reputable dive crews that had any openings the week we were in the USVI. It took some convincing from my wife but I finally relented and signed up. I am so glad that I did. Fast forward a few days and we find ourselves in front of the Fool's Gold ship with a seasoned crew of divers and captains getting ready for an adventure of a lifetime! Both dives took place at Buck Island. Dive 1 was at Barracuda Point. It was a 41-minute dive of up to 65' - 70'. Dive 2 was at the wreck of the Cartanza Senora. It was a 49 minute dive of up to 50'. Having not been out for 5 years, I decided to enlist a private dive instructor at a small additional fee. Her name was Audrey and she was AMAZING! I was nervous and showing all the signs of a new diver (holding my breath, struggling with buoyancy, etc.). She put my mind at ease and by the end of the first dive, it was like riding a bicycle. We saw so much ocean life that I would have missed were it not for her. We saw spotted drum, blue tangs, moon jellyfish, a Caribbean reef shark, a nurse shark, green sea turtles, angelfish, yellowtail snappers, pink meanies, groupers, puffer fish, parrotfish, a hawksbill sea turtle (endangered), anemones, flounder, filefish, and a solo squid. I cannot finish this review without giving huge props to the entire crew of Becca, Paul, and Gus as well. They worked so well together and made the trip memorable for everyone on the boat and in the water. My wife, who did not dive or snorkel, even had a great time on the boat and floating in the water with pool noodles. If you are considering a dive while in St. Thomas or the USVI, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't make Red Hook Dive Center your first call. This was a trip I will always remember. Pro tip: Make sure you bring your GoPro or dive camera. The sea life is amazing and wondrous! I'm so glad I remembered mine. read more

I was VERY disappointed in my latest visit to RHDC (April 2026). After having dove with them in 2015, 2018, and 2023, I was REALLY excited to be back. The staff had completely changed and it showed. The ONLY person that I would give more than 1 star to for customer service was Audrey...5 stars isn't enough. She was FANTASTIC! A GREAT dive master and a GREAT customer service representative of the company! She walked around on the boat before and after the dives and talked to everyone to get to know them and see how they were doing. Truly a model employee! That's where it ends. EVERYONE else was mediocre at best. No personality, no interaction with the divers, no customer service skills. Sam was no help in the dive shop, the captains were just there for the paycheck...it was a complete turnaround from the staff that was there before. BY FAR, the WORST was May. She was the dive master on my third day of dives and was a complete and utter disappointment. She picked the WORST possible dive sites (NE side of St. Thomas across from Coral World at Thatch Cay), had ZERO personality or customer service skills, and was not ready to be leading divers. We spent the first ten minutes of the second dive swimming into a strong current and she had no clue. You could watch the rocks below and see that we weren't moving at all. She finally turned us around and we just flowed with it until the dive was over. No wildlife pointed out, no attempt at doing her job...it seemed like she was being burdened to have to take us out. Needless to say, I won't use RHDC again. If is wasn't for Audrey, I would give it 1 star. She was truly great at her job. The rest...not so much. read more

Andrew & Scott (Bonus Time) took such good care of us. Scott was the dive master and led the group on 3 fantastic adventures. He was very patient with one of the divers who was having ear issues. I was a snorkeler and Captain Andrew keep me busy with great directions to see the wildlife and I even saw a shark! When I wasn't looking underwater he offered the personal float "saddle" and I drifted along the swimmers line. To top it off, we left a BCD on the boat & he tracked us down to give it back. 5 star business that I would recommend to everyone. read more

Review for RedHook dives: Five stars and an inverted fist to the top of my head for RedHook dives! Instructor Scott and Captain Mike were a great team, taking my pal and me for a private morning excursion to sites called the Ledges and the Stragglers. We were interested in a personalized tour to build our skills and our needs were more than met. Scott brought the humor and patience of a retired Jr. high school math teacher, the knowledge of a self professed "gear head", and the curiosity and familiarity with some 50 dive sites in the area to craft an experience that met us exactly where we were. He elicited our favorite learning styles and guided us through our gear eval and assembly, asking us what if any skills we wanted to work on (I wanted to review how to restore my mask if it came dislodged or water filled) and then toured us knowledgeably through the sites. They were magical. It was such an honor to see these environments, each rich with fish darting and nibbling, corals alternately smeared, standing and swaying in the current, and the quiet snapping throughout of fish, sponges and corals: eating, retreating, and living. I used Red Hook Divers for my first time this week! It was great. Captain Don (or Dan?), and Dive Master Serenity was great. Their boat was top notch, had a wonderful coushin mat so you don't slip, a fresh water hose to rose off after the dives, water, and oranges in between dives. The equipment was new and great condition. My BCD was very nice, with integrated weights so no need for a clunky weight belt. I love that. The dives were great. Serenity guided us around Ledges dive site, and then Stragglers rock. Both sites were great, we saw a lot of marine life including sing ray, turtles, spotted eel, lobsters, lots of fish. Serenity helped me get to the boat quickly when I was too cold to continue diving. She took great care of us. I also love how they still took us diving, with only a party of 3! Such a nice treat to not be on a crowded dive boat, thank you!! I'd love to dive here again, I was very impressed! Thanks so much! read more

Amazing experience! We were a group of five (two certified divers, two uncertified divers, and one snorkeler), and we had the trip to ourselves. We had Gem as our boat captain and Aaron as our diving guide/instructor. Both were cool guys who worked well together and made the trip fun. On the two tank boat dive, we went to two locations, with one dive at each. I think each dive was 30-45 minutes long. As the uncertified divers doing the Discover Scuba, we were frequently monitored by Aaron throughout the dive, while the certified divers stayed nearby. Our snorkeling friend was able to watch us from above and check out the reefs, and had a great time talking with Gem on the boat. We saw tons of fish, a couple brittle stars (like a skinny-legged starfish), a giant lobster, and even a small shark. We had a blast with these guys, and would definitely recommend Red Hook Dive Center! read more

They listened to my concerns and worked w me on my weights and ears. Aaron though gets special kudos. I am so happy we did a referral cert dive for my 16 yr old and we got Aaron. He was phenomenal with her. He takes his stuff very seriously but also makes it fun. He went the extra mile and taught her a lot more than I remember learning as a student. He was so good with her, I can't even begin to say how happy I was. We did another dive with another dive shop later that week just due to logistics and we weren't that happy with them and actually had a good scare. If you love diving this is the place to go! Everyone in the staff are so welcoming and wonderful. I went for my PADI open water certification with them and I couldn't be more happy with my instructor Tim, he was very patient and also kind. He had so much knowledge on the marine life, you could tell he really enjoys what he does. While on the dives, he took the time to teach us a little about the marine life, like the different corals, etc.. the site that they took us to dive were great! We saw so many things under water. Susan and Don were so kind also! They provided with waters and fresh fruits for us to eat at the boat. They really take care of you and make you feel at home. We had a great day with the Red Hook Drive crew. Everyone was so wonderful. We are recreational divers and were unsure what weights we needed, so before we went down they allowed us the time to do a buoyancy test. Small group of divers and no one was rushed, they stayed down the full time for both dives. We can say enough good things about this group, highly recommend them. Don and Susan truly place customer service and safety as their top priority. They kept is up to date as to weather conditions and had Wayne lead our dives. Captain/Instructor Don is excellent. We are a family of 4 advanced open water divers and really sought out a boutique dive shop, far away from the cruise ships. Our son was recovering from a flu and Don patiently descended down the line with him so that he could equalize his ears and enjoy 2 successful dives. Don takes his time to brief the group about the dive site and what especially to look out for. He points out interesting sea creatures and then tells stories about them once back on the boat during debrief. I highly recommend this team. Susan runs the dive shop and makes sure to send fruit and her yummy home-made cakes for the divers to enjoy between dives. I hope you get to taste her zucchini bread! Our family of 6 dove with them 2 days, and we experienced one of the top three dives of our lives - in our opinion. All of the staff is kind, enthusiastic, thoughtful and professional. My phone calls to the shop before our trip were answered and helpful. The shop manager was great to work with and made diving with Red Hook an easy and pleasant experience. One family member needs extra time to get down due to ear pressure and anxiety, and Aaron was able to connect with her to calm her down with patient support to help her dive. I cannot praise Aaron enough. Andrew, Scott and Darren were also amazing - they are all over-achievers in customer service. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the dive sites Jaws, Carval Rock, Armando's Paradise and Cow Rock showed us amazing structural diversity, and the biodiversity of the fish and corals. Great first experience diving! I did the Discovery dive since I had never been diving before. After a quick rundown of the information, they took us right out on the boat to practice the dive skills including clearing your mask and purging your regulatory. Captain Amy was great and my instructor Skeeter was awesome. He made me feel comfortable and safe on my first dive. If it's your first dive ever like me, I would definitely recommend purchasing the optional second dive...By the second dive I was much more comfortable and able to enjoy the sights and feeling more. I would also recommend wearing a wetsuit... we only went to about 40ft depth but it does get chilly even in Caribbean water! Would definitely recommend this dive center over anywhere else on the island. They are very professional, knowledgeable and fun! read more

We had a 5 star experience with Red Hook! We seriously had a blast- Don was our boat captain and we had Andre and Serenity for instructors. It was our first time diving (my boyfriend and I) and we got on a boat with our family, who had dived before and were certified. Susan and Don accommodated and arranged a dive so we could all go together, even with different skill levels. Although we weren't certified and it was our first time, the process was easy and brief, but enough that we felt safe going down. There was a short video and demonstration process with your instructor. If you're looking to go down and try it out- this is the perfect setup. Serenity made us feel safe, had a very calming presence and was thorough with instruction- not to mention, her and Andre made our experience so much fun! We had two dives, one to learn and test the waters and another with the more advanced group. This was a fantastic introduction to the world of scuba diving and for a great price! If you're looking for a fun afternoon- Red Hook is it. Thanks again you guys!! We will be back on our next visit to the island. read more

Just finished a pair of 6 dive packages and had a fantastic time with my son. Really couldn't have asked for a better crew or boat captain. They took care of everything from getting the gear setup on the boat to making sure we had all of our own stuff before we left. The night dive was something to remember .. Red Hook dive center was very responsive, very helpful, incredibly fun, and I felt like I was in very good hands. I really can't think of any downsides! We saw turtles, nurse sharks, eagle rays, squid, octopus, and gorgeous underwater scenery. Parking was a little but difficult in the area, but for $6 you can park in the covered garage for the whole dive trip. read more

We had just about given up on being able to dive during this trip to St Thomas - many highly rated places were closed; but one of the Marriott activities desk guys recommended Red Hook Dive Center and said it was open. Susan and Don (the owners; Don is the boat captain) are very helpful and we had two great dives at Cow/Calf Rock area. We had 7 certified divers and 2 dive masters, Kathy and Andy, who were very knowledgeable and promoted a safe dive for all. I'm a little claustrophobic, but Don & the dive masters fully explained the dives, including several swim-throughs of rock/coral formations, so I was fully prepared for everything we encountered.
