I love Central Market. If you're familiar with the H-E-B family of stores, this is the high-end…read moreversion. H-E-B is more mid-market, Joe V's is the bargain end, and Central Market is the crown jewel. And honestly, shopping here is an experience. Much like IKEA, the store is designed to lead you through the entire place, so you're constantly seeing something else that makes you think, "Oh, I need that." They carry tons of regional specialties, including plenty that aren't even from Texas, plus an impressive selection of prepared foods. The bakery is lovely, and the meat section is downright glorious. We happened to be here at the tail end of Hatch chile season, which is apparently a VERY real thing. Every August, Central Market celebrates with about two weeks of Hatch chile everything. We're talking marinated meats, salsas, chips, cheeses, dips, even cookies. Basically, if they can put a Hatch chile in it, they will. We bought a few things to take home and try later, but we also grabbed an Asian chicken wrap with sweet potato fries from the cafe. Delicious, and easily enough for two people to split. Come hungry, come curious, and give yourself plenty of time. This is not a "run in for milk" kind of grocery store.

Honestly, I was surprised Central Market had made-to-order food -- and even more surprised by how…read moregood it was. On top of that, it was actually pretty budget-friendly, which made it even better. Service was great, and the ambiance was really pleasant and comfortable. The food felt fresh and healthy, and the whole environment just made the experience easy to enjoy.

She made an excellent substitution for one vegetarian in the group. Chef Erin is amazing, personable, respectful, and professional! She made the meal very easy to recreate at home with tips and tricks. Amazing stuffed mushrooms are easier and do not take as long as I used to make them. I am no longer intimidated to make hollandaise sauce! The class was designed for however much effort you want to put in. It was a very relaxing, cozy atmosphere with time to spare to hangout. The part I had already looked forward to most was no dishes to clean up! Overall, it was a good experience for home cooks to gain confidence in the kitchen. It was a fancy menu and the chef enlightened us on how straightforward it is to put together. She empowered us to do it ourselves, revealing how easy it actually is.

Everyone in our group has been raving about the experience all weekend and can't wait to attend the public classes. They do a whole lot more than just teach some recipes. They created a really fun experience that my guests could feel totally part of. They were organized and well prepared. When we arrived the prep stations were ready to go and they had all of the ingredients and tools ready to grab at the right time. Mike helped me design a delicious custom 5 course menu. The recipes were delicious. Everything was timed to be ready in stages. Even my guests who typically don't like to cook got into the action. It was a totally fun experience. We are looking for another time to plan another event.
