I'm always look forward to trying a new dog park for my furry friend but was deeply disappointed with one of the rules being "Community bowls or pools may not be brought to or left at the dog park." and with there being only one source of hydration (a small spicket) and one spot where shade is given (picnic pavilion), this made it difficult for my dog and I to stay. Despite my dog being a high-energy, heat stroke can happen to any one of our fluffy companions and water being poorly accessible is a huge risk. I am happy with how much space is provided not only in the parking lot, but the yard itself. It was well maintained/paved, and owners were diligent in picking up any waste left by their pet. The fencing was in perfect condition with no signs of holes or breakage! Everyone was friendly and respectful. I do appreciate there being rules and discrepancies for dog fights and what to do in the event of one as well as the Madison Heights animal control number being listed. read more

I have been to this park with one of my GF's and her pug, he loves running around here, solo, he's not much of a dog person at all, big ones mostly. It would always get a bit noisy for us and rather animated at this smaller park by us if there was even one large dog and inevitably there would be one or more. I would end up having to help her pull her dog away from a potential fight. It's a good size park and it's well maintained for a dog park as well. There are some picnic tables and benches set up to sit a spell while the dog runs amok, if alone. read more

I am impressed with the Red Oaks Dog Park. I took my dog here for the first time last night and she loved it. The facilities are well maintained. There is a small private parking lot for visitors. Once you get out of the car there is a double gated area to get into the fenced-in dog park. Inside there are picnic tables, a few trees, and a lot of open space for dogs to run around. They also have water for the dogs to drink, and a hose to wash them down, should they get all muddy. If you do bring your dog here, don't forget to bring some common sense. The dogs that we have encountered at this dog park range anywhere from a 30-lb ball of fluff to a 100-lb (I'm just guessing here as I have no reason to weigh every dog that comes in/out) Great Dane. There are some dogs that play a little rough, so be mindful of your dog at all times. My pup loves to play with the big dogs, but she and I both know when too big is just too much. One other thing to take into consideration is that much of the area is directly under the sun, and there isn't much shade. You know what i'm not even going to give them less than 5 stars - yes I know its a fee ($10 non-resident) and its totally out the way but you know what I LIKE IT. It's hard getting my pups registered at the dog park near me due to my working hours and it not that I need it all the time either - just on special occurs like today I felt they needed a little socializing. The played and humped away!!! I love the fact the have available water on site for drinking (for dogs) and washing them off in case they lose a battle with mud. Yes,, 5 full stars,, me and my partner loves it,, my dog Roxy loves it here. The facilities are awesome.. it's well maintained. Picnic tables are provided and can bring food if you would like to have a spot of tea or two while your doggie plays with other doggies. Also,, if your doggie gets dirty when there are the occasional puddles on rainy evenings,, a hose is provided right outside of the gates to hose your doggie down before hopping into your car. Warning: gloating about how amazing my dog is & how hard AF I feel after our trip to the dog park. So I took my dog Elsa to the dog park as I always do on Sundays. Elsa LOVES all dogs, dogs that will chase her are her favorite because she lives to run. So after about 45 minutes a small pit bull showed up with a ton of energy, she was running around nonstop from the get go for a solid 10 minutes. Elsa was in the shade under the picnic table I was sitting at just relaxing and all of a sudden the cutest corgi shows up, he was much smaller than most of the dogs at the park obviously because of the way corgis legs are built. My sweet Elsa LOVES puppies so when she saw all the dogs start to surround the corgi she stood up after laying under the picnic table and was going to make her way over to play. Not even 10 seconds later the pit bull started attacking the corgi and my Elsa ran over and started fighting off the pitbull! #wonderwoman! The owner of the pit bull didn't even get up from where she was sitting (right across from me at the same table) and I wasn't going to wait around and let my dog leave the park on these terms. So I stood up and ran over to the group of 5-6 dogs and intervened with the dog fight. I started to pick up my 50 pound dog as the other pit bull scratched its long claws down my leg and arm. I started to pull Elsa away and as the pitbull started to bite my hand the owner finally got up and grabbed her dog. Needless to say; my sweet Elsa is adorable for watching out for the little ones and also.... don't ever mess with my dog! This dog park is always a great place to bring your dog but lately their has been some rough players there, the staff is amazing because when the incident happened with my dog someone came over right away to make sure we were both okay and I really appreciated that. Just make sure you really keep an eye on your dog when the park starts to get packed up! read more

Last time I went to this dog park, the Oakland County Sheriff showed up looking for evidence because a dog had been killed there the night before. I know these things happen at dog parks, but what I found absolutely disturbing was the reaction of other owners. "Well, they shouldn't have had a small dog in the large dog enclosure" - I was in shock while hearing a group of regulars being so nonchalant when discussing the incident. Also, during his trip, there was a guy who had a remote controlled shock collar for his dog because he was "very aggressive towards children and some dogs" --- here's a thought: leave the aggressive dog at home and give him exercise outside of the park! All in all, aside from the comments of a few people, I am still disappointed with the cleanliness and quality of this location. There aren't any trees, so the only shade to be found is under a tent over a picnic table in the summer. You also should be aware that they don't have any measures in place to ensure that dogs are up to date on vaccinations. So, you can come here very easily, but keep in mind, others may do the same. read more

This dog park is exactly what you would expect for the minimal fee (it sounds like you can buy a year pass, but we just paid $5 for the day). There's no staff to check as you pay at a machine, but they claim someone patrols to make sure cars have paid and will ticket if not. You also don't have to prove that your pet is up to date on shots, so I'm assuming this is why the park is busy. Like others have said, it's decent for the amount of money you pay, but people need to understand that it is a dog park. Some dogs will get along, some will not. Unless the owner is clearly not trying to separate their dog from yours, there's no reason to get upset if two dogs don't get along and have a quick disagreement. Also, this is a dog park, not a park for children. Please don't bring your toddler here and expect him/her to not get knocked over when two dogs are running for the same tennis ball that was thrown by someone from the other side of the park. Your kid is SOL, and that's not the dog owner's fault if their dog ran into your kid on accident. They're dogs trying to have fun in a park designated to them, for crying out loud. If you can come here and enjoy a bunch of dogs jumping on you and having fun, but you also understand that situations are going to arise (like a big muddy random dog jumping on me for pets and getting my pants soaked) and you can roll with the punches without being a douche, then this is the place for you and your pup. If you can't control your dog, just want to come and sit on a bench and let everyone else deal with and take care of your dog, just stay at home and play in your own backyard with your dog. read more

I drove 40 minutes to meet my friend so that our dogs could play. I got there and was told that my dog couldn't play because we didn't live in Oakland county. Nowhere on the website does it say that it's a private dog park or that only Oakland County residents can only use it. The employee was rude and needs to be taught how to talk to people nicely. read more

This would be 4 stars but I can't stand a lot of the people that go here. They're super protective of their tiny dogs who always get bombarded by the larger ones. The parks have a small dog area people! The better time to go is in the evening, more relaxed. There is an open water source, new pagoda, and waste bags upon entry. It's spread out enough that you can find your own space if need be. Sometimes they let the land get too gravelly though and I've seen a lot of dogs get cut, (word of warning, it's the worst in winter). Try it and see for yourself! read more

I like this dog park alright. There isn't really much to it. There are several very large enclosures for the dogs to run and play and pretty much no shade to speak of, although there are picnic tables and a port-a-potty. I would like this park more if it were prettier and had some natural features, but it doesn't and my dog doesn't seem to care. Newcomers should know that an Oakland County Parks vehicle permit is required and there is usually an attendant onsite to enforce that. If you do not have a vehicle pass, you can purcahse an annual pass for $30 or a day use pass for $5. They take cash only. As one reviewer noted, there are no safeguards in place to ensure that every dog is UTD on shots or not a murderous hellhound. For this reason, when you are packing up your dog and his leash, remember to pack your common sense as well. This is a public park and it is visited by the public at large. Expect to encounter some idiots (and their misbehaving dogs) and some very nice people (and their wonderdogs who are so wonderful and listen so well, you will be ashamed of yourself and your dog). If a fellow dog owner is misguided enough to let her 8 lb "Prince" into an enclosure with several 80lb dogs, I will move my 65 lb dog to another enclosure. Sheesh...Even if you can't understand dog behavior, you can at least grasp some basic physics - such as my dog could shatter your dog's spine by stepping on it by accident. I don't want to be responsible for that, so I am going to remove myself from the situation and watch and judge you from afar, while there is a fence between us. The busiest times are not the greatest times to take your dog there. The busier it is, the higher the odds of getting some idiots into the mix. Busiest times are the weekends or weekday evenings. Thankfully, though, even when it is busy, there are several enclosures so that people and dogs can spread out. read more

I've only been here twice, but I love that you can buy a day pass and that there's different areas for different dogs. My only complaint is that there are quite a few aggressive pit bulls whose owners don't pay attention to them. I love pits, I have friends that have them, and there are pits that come here that are great! But a few bad ones ruin it for the rest and people feel they can't throw the ball for their own dog because of how the pit behaves and the owner doesn't correct them or stop them. Just yesterday a pit there bit a dog and got them to the ground by the neck and the dog was crying while the owner wasn't even watching.. That's awful!! Other than that though it's a great place!! Just wish it was monitored or if your dog gets too aggressive/bites other dogs you get kicked out. read more

The park itself is really big with lots of dogs however, there are many very aggressive dogs there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time I went I heard of another incident with an aggressive dog. There is no one there to make sure all dogs are safe and no proof of rabies and shots are required so that in itself is no cool, you have no idea if the dogs your dog in playing with has had their shots. Finally, some days nice people that watch their dogs, and some time nasty people with aggressive dogs that ruin it for the nice dogs. read more

Dress for an exaggeration of the weather (if it's windy, it will be extremely windy at the park, if it's hot, it will be excessively hot at the park, etc.).
