I highly recommend Doggie in the Window! I have brought my dog here twice so far and it has been a good experience both times. His first visit was just one day over night. I love that they take pictures daily and I was able to find one of him. I also love that they let the dogs run around ALL DAY. Most places keep the dogs in cages all day unless you pay a premium to have your dog out and about. I also appreciate the option to have him bathed before pickup. On his second visit he ended up with pink eye while he was there. Beyond grateful with how they rose to the occasion. I was immediately notified that his eye didn't look right. They asked if I would like their vet to take a look at him. Same day the vet looked at him, prescribed meds and I was able to seamlessly pay for the service. Upon my arrival back the next day to pick him up they shared with me how to give him his medicine and provided the vets information for follow up. The vet was responsive to my call and extremely helpful. The only not so fun parts is they are old school in booking stays so you can't book stays online and the check in process takes a little bit of time. So give yourself at least 10 minutes to check your dog in if you are boarding him otherwise drop off is quick if the dog is coming for day care only. read more

Be cautious of boarding your dog here We dropped our healthy 10 month old puppy for boarding on a Saturday. On Thursday morning we received a call that he was sick. we picked him up and within 10 hours he died with a diagnosis of infectious pneumonia that exacerbated and he went septic. we requested at least reimbursement for the boarding and some assistance with the exorbitant costs to save his life. Since their insurance denied claim we received no reimbursement not even a sympathy card. No words can express our sadness over the last of our sweet puppy. read more

Having run a surgical dept dealing with "humans" I know first hand how "pushy and entittled some clients can be. Don't expect to get any help if your dog is injured. I understand you sign a contract, but my dog was bit and I was told it was very minor. I showed up an hour later to pick her up and she was still bleeding. They claim to have a vet on call yet she wasn't even looked at. A simple google search will tell you that if a dog is bleeding for more than 10 minutes it needs stitches. I had to take her the the emergency vet and pay over $1,000 for stitches. They played it off like "these things happen." This was not a minor scrape. Why didn't a vet look at her? read more

Our dog Zoey loves Doggie in the Window!!! We take her there for day care as well as boarding. The owners and staff at DITW are wonderful - friendly, knowledgeable, and most of all happy to be there! Zoey plays and plays and plays all day and is pooped when she comes home. I just picked her up from a weekend there and she is curled in a ball on the couch and sleeping. I have taken my dog to multiple places- daycares, dog parks, the vet, pet boarding places, downtown Detroit, the homes of family and friends who also have dogs- Doggie In the Window is the only place to say my dog was untoward to other dogs. When I took him there the first few times, he became so excited to go in, but by the fourth and fifth times, he cowered his head and wouldn't get out of the car. I had heard such good things from other people, and I saw for myself that other dogs were happy to go. But not mine. After he refused to go in twice in a row, I stopped trying to convince him and I never returned. I don't know what happened, but something or someone made him never want to go back. read more

We left our 7 year old dog there over a vacation. He came back a day early because he wasn't "doing well" there, but we were not asked to come get him. He was limp, could barely stand and lost about 10 pounds. It has cost us thousands of dollars since January 2022 and he is NOT the same dog. He now has continued respiratory issues and is allergic to chicken. Lisa (the owner) was not very sympathetic when I called her to inform her he contracted kennel cough at her facility and only asked about why we didn't get him earlier. This was not our first time using them but it's 100% out last. They also don't have cameras in the dog facility to check on them and now I know why- to deny liability. I've been bringing my dogs here for years. Because of working full time we felt our 2 dogs needed more playtime so we started bringing them for daycare. The dogs LOVE coming and the entire staff are great with the dogs. I know that when they stay overnight they're not just stuck in a cage for days on end, they're busy playing all day. The facilities are clean and I can almost always get them in for boarding when needed. read more

DITW was great but there was an incident with my dog and for whatever reason my dog was not placed in a kennel, more than likely it was due to too many dogs and not enough available kennels (view photos on their website and Facebook page). It may be 16k+ sq feet but the layout does not accommodate for that many dogs. I recommend calling different doggie day cares because there are some out there that actually interact with the dogs using balls, toys, one on one interaction- not just a bunch of dogs piled in one or two areas (probably why other owner's fur babies have had incidences as well, there's nothing there for them to do but walk around) and the staff wear uniforms, not regular clothing the young staff decides to wear for their summer job. DITW staff are friendly but believe me there are other places equally nice. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. My dog seems happy and tired after being boarded here. He can see out of his kennel which reduces his anxiety. However he has come home with bloody diarrhea and had to be hospitalized recently after being boarded here. Another time his eye was injured. I made an appointment to have my dog taken in to see if he would get along with other dogs as he's never gone to this kind of place. The owner Wendy called me and said that if he didn't get along with the dogs that I would be turned away. I've been in business for a long time and I don't consider this a good way to talk to a prospective customer. I mean I'm not a refugee fleeing to another country or joining some exclusive club but you wouldn't know that by talking to this woman. You would think she would have enough business acumen to find better language to use to prospective customers. Maybe she was having a bad day, doesn't need my business, or just generally has a bad attitude. There's plenty of boarding around the neighborhood so I think I'll go elsewhere. read more

I've boarded our two dogs there twice and both times either one or both of them have come home sick. I decided against my better judgment to board them recently the second time thinking that it was a one-off incident but obviously not. Never going back there again. Some reviewers have left comments that they won't take a dog in because they are "too aggressive". I understand precautions need to be taken but I do believe they are unequipped and inexperienced to handle various dog personalities. This isn't a child care facility- it's a dog care facility and, while they're our babies, they are still animals after all. I had recommended this place to a friend and went in with him and his bigger dog for their "review process" and it's a joke. My friend mentioned to them that he didn't know how his dog will act as it was their first time going to a doggy day care. Instead of being cautious and watching the dog's body language, a young worker carelessly took the dog back where all the dogs are and let it go then came back shortly after to say the dog was showing signs of "aggression" and they couldn't take it. The issue isn't that the dog's personality didn't fit with their style of daycare, but that this could've turned really ugly, really fast. It is extremely dangerous that this business throws a dog into a room with all the other dogs. This is potentially a very stressful and scary situation and this is how fights happen!! My friend now takes his dog to a place where they let them play in groups based on personalities so it all worked out for them but I did want to mention this to people considering this day care. read more

It has taken me over a year and a half to update my review. It has taken me over a year and a half to calm down enough to say how I really feel about this place. I'll spare you with the dramatic details. My dog's tail had to be amputated after a stay at this place. On top of that, the incompetent staff fed my dog HALF of the food he was supposed to have during his 3 day stay. The owners of this establishment thoroughly disappointed me with how they handled the situation. I don't have one single positive thing to say about this business, and I highly encourage anyone I know to think twice about leaving their pets in the care of people who couldn't even bother to make a phone call to express their sympathy for what we went though. read more

So we then proceeded to drop him off for a weekend while we went out of town. The next day after leaving, we received a phone call that we needed to come pick him up because he was playing to rough. Doggie in the Window is a great boarding facility. They have truly gone above and beyond where other facilities have failed. Namely, they have the proper amount of space (both indoor and outdoor) and have handlers who know what they're doing. I only have two gripes: 1. Pricing is weird for Sunday pickups, making it basically as cost-effective to keep your dog there until 9pm on Monday. 2. During one boarding visit, I was met with the unpleasant surprise of having a premium tacked on to the normal boarding rate. DITW claimed that it was a "peak time". However, I was neither informed what that meant, nor that it would be applied when I made my boarding reservation. read more

I have mixed feelings about this business. I have taken both of my dogs here for years. I think the staff is incredibly friendly and I strongly felt that my dogs were in great hands. Maybe it was just an unlucky day for my dog, or maybe it was poor judgement of the business for allowing an aggressive dog in group play, but the first day into my vacation I received a call that my dog had "an incident". Apparently another dog's tooth got caught on my dog's skin and tore it open. She needed stitches AND a drain tube put in (and was also put under for the surgery). Not fun for a nearly 10 year old dog, right? However, once I was back home and consulted with actual vet professionals, the consensus was that this was not a "playful" bite, but actually looked to be aggressive. My dog had (2) independent wounds, both on the side of her body. This suggests that the dog that bit her came at her TWICE. Is that playful? Was that "an accident"? Not likely. I strongly feel that they take in too many dogs (busy days they have around 200), and I'm not confident that their staff is well-trained or educated in animal behavior. Back to my story. First day on vacation, I got the call. I authorized them to do the surgery, but I was completely taken back when the owner wanted me to have my emergency contact pick up my dog. My emergency contact happens to be very pregnant right now and in no condition to care for an injured dog. Regardless, I'm not sure what kind of person has a network of friends who would be able to care for an injured dog (post op with a drain tube) and in need of daily wound care...most of my family was on vacation with me and if I actually had someone who could watch my dog for 10 days, I wouldn't need to pay $50/night to board them at DITW in the first place. It's not like my dog got the flu or pink eye...she was essentially attacked while in their care and they had the nerve to ask me to have someone pick her up. After a little back and forth, the Owner and I agreed it was in my dog's best interest to remain at DITW (in isolation), until I returned from vacation. I DO think that she was in good hands in their care (while in isolation) and I did appreciate the constant communication I had with the owner for updates on my dog and her injuries. It's just a shame that the owner made ME feel responsible for finding alternate care options, when I looked to them to care for my dog. Needless to say, I simply can't bring my dogs back to this facility. Even though it's cheaper and a lot closer than other local options, I don't have faith that they are completely competent to care for the amount of dogs they take in, but more important than that, I don't like to be lied to. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. There is NO way the wounds that my dog suffered were from an "unlucky playful encounter". My dog was attacked. I would have had a lot more respect and understanding if the owner said "Bad news, your dog was attacked. We are going to take care of everything and rest assured the dog that did this will no longer be allowed at our facility". Shit happens, they are dogs. I understand that. But, don't tell me it was a "playful"...I'm not an idiot. If this bite was "playful", I'd rather not see what damage this dog could do with an "aggressive" bite. YIKES! I'm taking my business (and dogs) to Canine to Five. They exercise so much caution it's sometimes annoying, but I'd much rather deal with over-protective and cautious day care professionals, than a money hungry group that values quantity over quality. read more

They were able to get him to potty in the right spot with minimal accidents and let us know when he has to go! ***DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE*** I wish I would have trusted my instinct about this place. From the day of my dog's evaluation, I knew something was off. For starters, there are no cameras in the back, and when you enroll, you have to sign a waiver-- BIG RED FLAG, people. I have absolutely nothing good to say about the owner of this place; she's rude, pretentious, disingenuous, impersonal, incompetent and the list goes on. Likewise, I do not think the staff is qualified or equipped to deal with all dog breeds. I have a large, energetic breed, and I always felt like he was a bother to them. Another big red flag. Scheduling and dropping off is also annoying. The thing that did me in was when I picked my dog up after boarding him for 10 days. I went out of town on Christmas Eve and was forced to drop him off the morning of the 23rd (their rule). I got back on the 1st but couldn't pick him up until the 2nd (their rule). When I finally got my dog, he was EMACIATED. He literally looked like he had been living on the streets for a month. A random employee called me on the 29th to simply tell me that the dog needed more food (which I had delivered). They never told me he had lost a significant amount of weight; never thought there may be something else wrong; never thought about calling a vet. I left my healthy, 80 lb. dog, and came home to a distraught, starving, sickly looking animal, weighing in at 68 lb.! The day I picked him up, I was extremely upset and spent my whole day calling vets (mine was closed). Thank God I found one on a Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend. I have not heard from this place since. And I will be looking into the legality of their waiver. If I were you, I would NOT take my dog here. These people are clueless, and the owner should be put out of business. read more
