Highly recommend! Very responsive on reservations, they were able to add a couple days due to a family emergency. Our dog was not socialized but they worked with him and he was able to enjoy himself by the end. Very friendly staff and facility smelled clean. read more

I was traveling to Brainerd and waited until the last minute to find a place to board my dog. I was able to get a last minute reservation at Red Oaks without any problem. I decided to also have them give my dog a bath as well. They did a great job. I especially liked that they give the dogs social time outside so they aren't locked in cages all day. My dog came home happy and stink-Free! The rates were pretty much in line with what I would pay in Minneapolis. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

What a great place! The pups spent 2 nights & 3 days in doggy day care while we were at Brainerd International Raceway. They had a blast! They were so exhausted when we picked them up, I think they slept for the next 48 hours. Gail & her staff were awesome. Extremely helpful in setting up our dates for boarding & vaccination records over email and happy to give me updates when I called to check in on the "kids". I highly recommend Red Oaks Pet Inn. Gail, Bob, Jill and the rest of the crew are AMAZING! Caring, friendly, and professional in how they communicate with their customers and care for the pets in their charge. I WOULD GIVE NO STARS IF I COULD!! This was about the third time I had used this groomer for our shitzu and the cut is usually fine and she looks good. My complaint is about what I wittnessed! I was not noticed when I walked in and was horrified to see the groomer GRAB AND YANK HARD on my small dogs ear to the point my dog lost its footing! I had everything I could do not to storm in there and do the same to the groomer! I countinued watching from out of her sight and I could see my dog was terrified while the groomer was finishing. She then grabbed my dog hard and took her in the back as if it was a package and not a dog. If you use this groomer I highly recommend that you be there and watch the cut they the window!! I would never kennel a dog there!!!!! I held it together and paid got my dog from the receptionist and walked out because I honestly don't think I could have held it together if I had to talk to that groomer!!! There should be some kind of investigation into this place!!! read more

My husband and I visit Nisswa, MN each summer and have had our two dogs stay at other kennels in the general area, which were less than ideal. We found Red Oaks on line two years ago and have boarded them there for five day segments in the past two summers. I have never boarded them at a better kennel. The staff are very friendly to us and the dogs, have a beautiful play area, and are very open about showing us around and being flexible about giving the dogs various arrangements (e.g., a discount for two dogs in a kennel or moving them if they seem cranky with one another). I trust their judgment in deciding whether to keep them separate or together. They reply very quickly to voicemail messages and explain how everything works very carefully. It was a little tricky to find the first time we came but the grounds are beautiful so being tucked away off the main highway is great! Our "girls" came out of the kennel calm but happy. We'll bring them back every time we go to the lakes region in northern MN. Thank you Red Oaks! read more

In regards to grooming, I've NEVER had a worse experience with a business. First of all, this is my first puppy and her first haircut so I was worried in general. The groomer or the person making an appointment never confirmed that she would be doing a "puppy haircut" instead of a full on groom which is what she really needed and what I thought I was getting. So, right off the bat things were confusing and not off to a good start. Next, I was told to pick her up three hours later. I came 5 minutes early to pay and get her, she said come back in 20 minutes. I came back 20 minutes later and she said she still wasn't ready but I could pay and go wait in my car and she would call when she was ready. I NEVER got a phone call from anyone and by the time it had almost been FIVE hours. When my puppy came out she was still a giant fluff ball and the groomer shaved her little face down to nothing (because of the goopy stuff under her eyes, it was pretty bad) so in a sense I understand why she did that but I think it would have been better customer service to call and consult me first to ask if I even want her to do that being it's going to look so terrible. I was basically in shock when I picked her up. She went from looking like a sweet little teddy bear to looking like a little wolf/rat. I cried for days because she just didn't look like herself. My puppy was depressed after this. She moped around the house for a week and wouldn't even play or eat normally. I called them to talk about how I was disappointed and I wanted to see if I could make another appointment in the future to get her cut again and the instant the groomer got on the phone she had a rude tone of voice and basically told me my puppy was awful and bit her (I would too) and had terrible fur and it was so difficult and traumatizing, etc etc. I could not BELIEVE she was blaming it on my dog and was outrageously rude to me. I just took her elsewhere to get groomed and there were ZERO problems. My dog loves this new groomer and I was told how well behaved she was and she was extra happy and playful when we took her home and looks amazing. When it comes to grooming please do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE else! read more

We feel so confident when we drop our dog off here. They get excited when I call to make a reservation because they remember Shelby. Our dog gets separation anxiety easily, and Red Oaks really goes the extra mile to help with it so Shelby is comfortable. We wouldn't bring her anywhere else. read more

Last year my neighbor was in the hospital and asked me to get her senior mini-poodle dog groomed. His usual groomer was booked, so I took him to Red Oaks instead. I was very clear in stating that he needed a trim, but because it was autumn, he absolutely could not be shaved. I had brushed him out an hour before I brought him in to make absolutely certain he had no mats or snarls. When I picked him up later that day they had shaved him to the skin. I asked why they would do that when I specifically told them a TRIM, and the groomer came out to try to tell me that he was matted so badly that his fur came off like a blanket of sheep's wool. An absolute lie because I had just brushed him out! I took him to the hospital to see his owner, and she actually cried because the cut was so bad. She said she'd brushed him out right before she'd gone into the hospital too. It took months for his fur to grow back in. He was depressed, despondent, and had issues with staying outside long enough to go potty because he had no fur left to keep him warm. I will never use Red Oaks for grooming in the future, and if they treat their grooming clients like this, I certainly wouldn't leave one of my beloved pets in their boarding care either. That said, my mother loves them for nail clipping, but that's an in-and-out (no unattended stay). I'm told they used to have a fantastic groomer, but when she moved, they replaced her with this lady. read more
