I would give a no star review if I could. We were taking Grandpa out for lunch after a visit to see Grandma in her nursing home and they mentioned how much they love Red Onion. They were fairly full as we came in, no tables for our party of 6 save one dirty one, a couple booths and small tables for 4. I walked up to the counter where two men were standing around, doing nothing and asked about seating and the bald man with the beard said "nothings tied down, move what you want" So we said ok and started to do so when he yells "not that!" I love Red Onion Espressoria! I come here all the time and have never been disappointed. I am constantly checking in on Facebook and raving about their Raspberry Truffle lattes. So good! I've had many things on the menu, but my go-tos are the BLT&A and Versatile Veggie sandwiches. Both are great, although the veggie sandwich is extremely messy, so beware! And sometimes the dill cream cheese can be too much, but I just scoop out the excess spilling out of my sandwich and it all works out. Spinach and Feta salad is so simple because literally its just spinach, feta and tomato but it goes so well with their homemade vinegarette. And the bow tie pasta salad is ridiculously creamy and satisfying in its little styrofoam cup (perfect portion size cuz you know it's oh so bad for you!). This restaurant is consistently delicious! Their sandwiches are very generous and so tasty. The salads are good, too. We like the Reuben and the turkey, bacon, ranch sandwiches the best. Wow, what a treat! We've been to the Red Onion downtown (a must-visit!) so we decided to try the Espressoria. Glad we did! The menu isn't very big, but there was enough variety for me and my family to get what we wanted, everything from sandwiches (BLT&A, Veggie) to the pasta, soup (very rich French Onion), and Chicken salad - all were tasty! They offer a variety of sandwiches and some dinner plates. There were some delicious-looking desserts on display, but we didn't try them. I'm a huge fan of the downtown location, and while passing through I noticed this satellite location across from Barney's Lube. Same great quality of food and nice staff that is found at main location downtown. I was a little disappointed to find no discount lunch special, so even though sandwiches are pricey they certainly are worth the cost. This location has outside seating, which is a plus for us, since we are often traveling with our dog. And since we don't live in the area, but do pass through we certainly will come back. read more

Strangely enough, the "espressoria" serves no espresso coffees. Apparently it's some sort of misplaced reference to the speed of service; most of the guys who work there think it is confusing, as does your correspondent... so don't feel bad if you came in looking for a café latte. I never do Yelp reviews. I had to download the app just to do this review. I recently went to Red Onions smaller lunch centric location during a very busy stressful day.. hopeful. I was struck how there was not a single allergen free, or keto friendly, or health conscious ( in terms oftoday, in 2020) item on the whole menu. So i was bummed but not surprised. With some small hope i asked if the bisque contained dairy ( i am crystal clear bisque is a cream dish historically, i am also clear there are many workable vegan alternatives). And someone behind the counter, who i had not asked, and looked in charge, piped in gruffly "Its bisque." Condescension included. I cant remember a less pleasant lunch attempt. The menu would be considered very contemporary and healthful....if it was 1985. I doubt it has been updated since then. I am sure there are many people who like this place. I am also sure that as time inevitably marches on there will be fewer and fewer of them, as people seek out real whole food that is not killing them, slowly. If you are looking for good clean plant based food meant for humans i would avoid thus place at all costs, or if u just like to be treated w kindness or respect. read more

Never a disappointment here. The original is good but the Espressoria is closer to home. The salads, the sandwiches, the pastas, the tea, the booths...and the guys working there are extremely attentive and polite. It's just a great place to go. A bit of a smaller joint so when it gets busy it can get crowded and a little noisy but that's to be expected. Prices are decent but here really is a time where you get what you pay for. We enjoy going several times a month and so far we've never had a single issue. I think there might've been a simple mistake once but as I said the guys were extremely attentive and fixed our issue immediately. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a non-chain, Joplin-based restaurant that serves great food in a great atmosphere. read more

Red Onion ESPRESSORIA, not expressoria, ugh...but whatever! This place is wonderful, just like Red Onion Cafe. Great place for lunch and they have an awesome happy hour for apps and espresso drinks. Delicious! The decor is actually really nice considering it's a strip mall spot on character-lacking 32nd Street. I work in the South Joplin business district so this is a better fit for me during the work week, but I must admit that when time is not a concern I strongly prefer the "original" Red Onion Cafe downtown over this location. But don't get me wrong - I'm still really glad Red Onion Espressoria is here! read more

Great sandwich stop! I was in Joplin for work and went to the Red Onion Espressoria with my co-workers for a quick bite. I read another review and thought I'd try the Versatile Veggie sandwich. I was very pleasantly surprised! The cream cheese added a layer of creaminess that really completed the sandwich. Unfortunately, I asked for the strawberry vinaigrette on the side and never received it. Oh well. Normally, I would have given this place a solid 4 stars, but I'm deducting because it was really difficult to get the attention of some staffers to figure out what to do with our trays/plates. It was likely an off-night though and would definitely try this place again if I'm in town again. read more
