Friendly staff and excellent service! We didn't have a reservation but they graciously got us seated anyway. The wait wasn't very long. The desserts look amazing but sadly I was too full after the amazing burger I had. Atmosphere was moderately noisy but not too bad. Will definitely go back. Thanks

This restaurant was just wow on all points. It's about 4 miles off the highway so I really doubted it if it was gonna be worth it. I was wrong. first, there's a very convenient parking lot right next to it with free parking so even that it's in downtown don't let that dissuade you. Second, I was worried because a lot of the people coming out were really well dressed, but we asked somebody in the parking lot and they said no they just had someplace to go but that casual was fine. Third, when we got there, my knee was bothering me from having been in the car for 10 hours And they asked me if going up a few stairs would be OK and I appreciated that they were paying attention. Fourth, our waitress was very attentive and knew the menu very well. We had picked this restaurant because my husband is a vegetarian and she asked him questions and make sure what he ordered would meet his needs. I forgot to take pictures of the spinach and feta salad, but that was really good too. My only regret is that we ordered an appetizer and I did not save room for dessert. We plan to stop on our way back.

We were seated immediately in this clean and charming cafe. When the waitperson came I ordered an old fashioned but they only have beer and wine. So I ordered a moscato -- unfortunately they were out of it. The waitperson asked if I'd like to try a wee bit Pinot, I did but it's not for me. So I asked for unsweetened iced tea. Yumaroo, crisp, fresh, and I drank 3 glasses. My spouse and I both ordered Ruben sandwiched. He got pasta salad as his side, I got homemade potato chips, both were so good! We already made a recommendation to our neighbor campers.

This is one of the CLASSIC eateries here in Joplin and such a great place to dine! It is located downtown Joplin in a beautiful old building that takes you back in time. The service is also like what your Grandma provides and they are always so nice while eating here. My fried chicken dish was good (not amazing) this time but I am still in love with their salad and their house Red Onion Dressing. Whether for lunch or Dinner, this is a great option while you are in Joplin!!

Back again to our pick for the best in restaurant in Joplin, the Red Onion Café. We ordered two of our favorites, the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp & BBQ Chicken, and the David's Fried Chicken Salad. The Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with BBQ Chicken is a thin chicken breast grilled and covered with a very small amount of barbeque sauce. It is just enough that you can taste the sauce, but not enough to hide the flavor of the chicken. On top of that is a small stack of microscopically thin sliced red onion that has been fried crisp. On top of that are two skewered shrimp wrapped in bacon that have been grilled over an open flame. It includes their loaded mashed potatoes and a small side salad. The bacon wrapped shrimp, the fried red onion, the light BBQ sauce and the grilled chicken all work together to make for a fantastic meal full of flavors. The Red Onion is consistently delicious, high quality fresh food and wonderful friendly attentive service. It is always worth the drive!

A warm and lovely ambiance with delicious food at reasonable prices. Will have to save enough room for dessert next time!

I was warned that it would be bubbling hot because they cook it in the pizza oven, it wasn't a lie! I love my food hot! I even had to blow on it to cool it down. It wasn't perfection...only thing that would have been better is to have some potatoes in it, but it still was delicious. There was a good amount of chicken too, I'm stuffed and couldn't eat it all...I tried! Hubby had the Soy Glazed Salmon. It came with rice and broccoli. He really enjoyed it. It came highly recommended by Boston, our server. Great recommendation! Boston kept our drinks full and was very attentive. We will ask for his section when we are back in town. Bathrooms were clean and the restaurant was pretty full on a Sunday night. Definitely will go back when we are in the area! I saw a cheeseburger that look good too...next time!

If you've ever been to classic diners like the ones featured on Guy Fieri's such as Sam's #3 in Aurora Colorado (miss those days living out in the Rockies), then you know that special something when you sit down and all the locals come out and congregate for brunch...well didn't get that feel here. However, 5/5 stars to the chef. Let me explain. And don't get me wrong, the server was fantastic. The setting was in the retail section of the Joplin Petro Truck Stop, being a fairly dim but rather quiet corner. In all my years of trucking, on the road, whether it be at a Denny's in a truck stop, or a Black Bear diner, Waffle House, another Iron Skillet, or i-Hop, whenever I order medium rare on a steak, it would always end up on opposite ends of the spectrum-- either very well done OR bloodshot rare. So when my server brought me a true medium rare steak, there was this aura of sacredness to it. I simply didn't expect the chef was going to make it to that likeness...and he proved me wrong. It just shows, that there are still individuals on planet Earth that know how to grill up an everyday New York steak and not destroy it. , Thank you Jesus this art form is still alive and well. But of course going back to the quality and satisfaction levels of eating the food, I still want to stick to a 3. It's a truck stop, it's a chain, it tastes very manufactured production line quality. Like if you walked into any Flying J or Pilot, whatever they have in the hot food trays, it's on par with that. Basically the Caesars Salad, the Mashed Potatoes, but the steak was how a New York strip would taste but on the saltier side. Until next time, maybe I'll check out that other diner in Barstow CA on route 66
