Highly disappointed in this location. Except for the Perron at the front door, every other staff member was short and not welcoming. I asked for a bourbon sidecar and got a traditional. When I asked the bartender, his response for a curt "I didn't make it" and I pressed further, his "repeated rather curtly, " I didn't make it". This is the first "speakeasy" I've been to that legitimately doesn't look like an obvious bar. Walking inside is like stepping into the past. Dark wood, leather couches, and the smell of cigar smoke sets the tone as you settle in for something special. I normally do not drink liquor, but made an exception because I was with friends. The ventilation system is horrible. Totally unexpected and random speakeasy. We were staying at The Ritz during the Peach Bowl and after the game, we knew that everywhere downtown would be packed and we were right. Being that the game was on New years day, a few places were closed. After going by three establishments, we stopped by Amalfi and were quoted with a 2 hour wait. While standing in the stairwell checking Opentable and Resy for reservations, we were approached by someone that shared a college affiliation with a member of my party. We were then offered a chance to come to the speakeasy where they shared the same menu as Amalfi! What a stroke of luck! We exited Amalfi and entered the "red phone booth" outside, entered the code and were granted access. I cannot stand strong smoke, especially cigarettes and while too much cigar smoke can affect me, I got over it and enjoyed our time in this super cool spot. After a while, I did not smell anything, however, the next day, my clothes and my hair did not let me forget. This place is pre-prohibition which I love. We had the first word, the last word, old fashioned's and the st. germaine margarita. The drinks were crafty and delicious. In town visiting friends and thought it would be cool to check this place out. Cool concept and nice atmosphere, but the drinks were not up to standard for a speakeasy. The drinks were watery and lacking in flavor and cocktails that were served in rocks glasses were filled with small chunks of ice which quickly melted and watered down the drink even more. For a speakeasy bar to not have large form ice cubes in cocktails is inexcusable. The service was barely OK and once the server realized that we weren't going to buy another round of bad drinks, she disappeared until I had to track her down to get our check. Pretty cool however the dress code seems a bit over the top for a place that will leave a strong cigar odor over every article of clothing on you. Service was good yet slow however I'll lean into it being very busy and they were trying hard to sling drinks. Great place to imbibe just let it be a fun little hideaway versus some club requiring a sports coat. Lastly, if cargo pants are a no then be sure to get everyone at the door.
