I moved into an apartment directly across from red rocket and was excited to finally live in an area of the city with so much to offer, Especially all the countless coffee shops on the Danforth as there is nothing more important to me than a good cup of coffee in the morning. However, I find myself a bit disappointed. Red rocket coffee is not the best coffee I've had but their Americanos are the best that I have had from the other local coffee shops I've visited around this area. Don't get me wrong, it's a good cup I just held higher expectations as there is many more indie coffee shops that are just so much more better such as te aro, remarkable bean and broadview espresso. These places are far too far away to be considered a local though. Red rocket is however much better than the cafe in the only and coffee creama up the road. I still have many many more to try yet though! read more

*Insert rocket Onomonopia* The first time I went to Red Rocket I swear I thought the barrista sneezed in my latte. After a few visits, I realized that the uber hipster behind the counter was not releasing mucus into my $4 drink but in fact handing it to me while making what I assume is "Rocket Sounds!" In any case, the staff here is always super friendly and the large side patio and WiFi make homework around here a breeze. I always stop by for a cafinated fix before my hot pocket treatment at the Ten Spot next door. My only complaint about this place is they often don't have any sandwiches or food left. There aren't many snack places in the immediate area where you can simply grab and go, so it's annoying to walk in and find out the last rocket ham and cheese sammy was just sold :-( read more

The end of March approaches & we decided on Leslieville's Red Rocket for a last kick at the can. After some explanations of their "fancy" drink menu (they must get tired of explaining their code names...) we waited at the end of the counter. The place was quite busy, even for a Sunday afternoon - we couldn't have sat down together even if we wanted to (we were on the go!) Our drinks came. We claimed them proudly & were on our way. My partner's drink was lovely. A dark chocolately coffee. Lovely & oh-so-caffeinated (a shot of espresso in coffee...woh). My Chai Latte? I probably should have trekked back & politely asked for a redo/something completely different. (But had someplace to be & were well in route...) It was too watery for my consumption. There was no soft foamy texture to it. Just dirty-tasting water. Grr. I poured it out, quietly recycled its container. Sigh. I vow to have a more triumphant kick at the can before the end of March. read more

It's a good coffee shop and very close to my house. I like the coffee, and they have a great selection of food too, if you're hungry. My only two beefs are the fact that they charge a different price every morning when I go to fill my travel mug. The old dude, especially, seems to like to charge more. The price goes from about $1.50 up to $2.75. No big deal, but a little odd. Secondly, the scones are a little greasy. They are very tasty but, if you rubbed them on the wall, that wall would become tranparent due to oil absorption. read more

One of my more common morning caffeine stops..... I'm mostly a straightforward coffee guy, none of those complicated fluffy looking things.... The Drip coffee is OK, but I'm here for the Espresso, or some days Americano.... Nice side patio, which should only get better as the weather does... Stumbled on to this coffee shop because I was in the area and wanted to try something new! Did a Yelp search and this was the closest coffee shop and had great reviews, so why not! Totally impressed by the customer service!! Our barista Kayla was amazing!! They have a specialty menu of hot beverages and I asked her to explain what was in each because they had cute little creative names. I decided to go with Hot Blondie which was a caramel latte but with real caramel, not a syrup, and something else in it I think?! Either way it was delicious!! They had a hot chocolate and some marshmallow drink that I want to try for next time! Because there will be a next time lol! She even gave us free drink coupons because this was our first time there and wanted us to come back! Like I stated before, this was by far THE BEST service that I have ever had!! My husband and I stopped in to buy a bag of coffee beans since we're moving away from Folgers and the like. The ladies working that day were helpful and sent us on our way with a bag of freshly ground Reunion Island Deep Space and a free cup of coffee. I have to say, Deep Space is a damn good dark coffee. It's flavourful and low on acidity which makes it a perfect morning and weekend cup in our household. Our next bag of beans will be coming from Pilot, so stay tuned :) read more

Came in to get a hot chocolate. The staff sold me on getting the Mayan hot chocolate which, on its own, probably would have been really tasty. I asked for them to put some pepermint flavour in and they yet again upsold me on getting the toasted marshmallow whipped cream. There was waaaay too much pepermint and the toasted marshmallow whipped cream tasted like burnt toast. After being here a couple times and never really being pleased I think I'm done with these guys. At least I can get consistency at Starbucks. read more

Not too shabby. My friend and I ordered an iced Americano today and it was pretty solid. A little on the strong side despite the generous watering added to the ice. There was no line up and the staff were civil enough and efficient. The place itself was decent but warm. I was happier to go outside and have my coffee than sit indoors. read more

Red Rocket's got it's own style, fresh baked goods, daily made sandwiches, a great open concept, free wifi, and bar-style window seating with electric outlets available all over the place! My first visit here, has resulted in this review. I didn't get a chance to take it all in, I was trying to get my cool pictures (and my wife was talking to me....priority #1 right there ). It's a nice coffee shop, small and serves some tasty treats and drinks, coffee, teas and the like. With the small tables and chairs, it's a perfect little shop (especially the small but cool patio in front of the cafe). Similar to a Starbucks but I'd say better because of its uniqueness and not being a franchise. Actually not better to Starbucks, majorly superior. Looking forward to returning. I used to think "why must my wife spend so much money here"? Now I say "Wife!! Show them the moneyyyyyy"!!! Maybe not that dramatic, but you see my point I'm sure. This is a review for cold beverages. I've tried the sweet tea and italian soda. Both were tasteless. Thinking the sweet tea was going to be too sweet, I asked for it to be not as sweet but then I found it tasteless. Italian soda lacked more syrup. Drinks weren't filled to the top either. I'll try the baked goods next time and see how it goes. read more

I love this cafe. Very warm, welcoming place. Have been going since they opened and always look forward to going. Staff are delightful, efficient and fun. There are a variety of sweet scones, the butter pecan is my favourite. Savory scones also delicious. Five or more years ago many storefronts on the Danforth were vacant. One of the owners, Billy, became very active in the Danforth business association. His ideas and actions have had a huge role to play in the revitalization of that area, which now has a theatre, good restaurants, interesting shops and is a delightful place to walk. His efforts and those of DBA have brought this area back to life. I've moved out of the area and don't get back there as often as I'd like but I always look forward to going there. read more

Great place to get coffee! .. The staff are very friendly and all their food is made fresh daily on site. It is my fav place to go and relax on a weekend morning. The atmosphere is great. Music playing but not to loud. Couches, fireplace, and a Community Board on their wall with events going on in the community. It is a great place to go and very kid friendly. read more

This is a very good spot to get some quality espresso. The semi-subterranean cafe is still airy and quite atmospheric, and they seem to serve more desserts and food than other cafes in their class. If I lived closer to here I'd frequent Red Rocket most definitely. read more

I've only been here for the weekly comedy shows at 8pm on Saturday night. I've had coffee and beer (though not at the same time) and baked goodies. I like Red Rocket! I live really close by and it's so convenient to have such a nice cafe near my house. I go to Red Rocket with my study buddy sometimes and we just stay there for hours sometimes and they don't say anything. It's a small place, it's cozy and the tables are a bit bigger than at Starbucks, so it's easier to have textbooks out. Try to avoid lunch times if you go there to study though, because it gets noisy. I also love how they have free wireless internet! I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't comment on that, but I do like their Gen Mai Cha tea. I also drink their Skinny Genie tea, which is a bit strong if you leave the tea bag in, but I like it! In the summer I drink their Busy Bee tea (which is a blueberry white tea) iced with some added sugar. If I could make a recommendation; I wish they had a larger variety of tea. I've also tried their food. My favourite is their wrap (forgot what it's called) but it has sweet potato, apples and mayo in it. I think it's their chicken wrap. It's good for just brown bagging it to work or to stop the stomach from rumbling while studying there. read more

Red rocket is our go to local coffee shop! When it moved closer to our house, it was nice to have a local cafe open up on part of the danforth that wasn't a coffee time wannabe or Tim hortons. Love the staff as they are always friendly and welcoming. For the most part, they make a mean latte. I had a latte once where it was not that warm. Not sure what happened but the staff graciously remade my latte. I really miss the old location on queen st e, because they had a patio. However, I love having them closer to home. Had the best latte! So glad they have lactose-free milk. Not many of the local establishments keep lactose-free milk, so my options are limited. Worth the walk! I'll be going again soon to try a salted caramel latte. The maple was amazing. I found the employees very nice. read more

I'm the Yelp Duchess of this spot for good reason - Red Rocket rocks. When I want to get some work done or just surf away mindlessly, RR is my go-to. THE GOOD: - Every hot drink I've tried here has been awesome. My favourites are the lavender green tea latte and the hot chocolate, which is served up with MARSHMALLOW WHIPPED CREAM (!!!) and a gummy worm! I didn't know what true love was until I tried marshmallow whipped cream. Get this if you have a sweet tooth. (Tip: Save the gummy worm for last. Once you're done the hot chocolate, let it wriggle down the empty cup into your mouth. Trust me on this.) - The ambience here is everything you look for in a coffee shop: a quirky, cozy little nook with packed bookshelves, abstract art, inviting leather couches and fairy lights. It has a slight hipster vibe without coming off as pretentious. I always enjoy the music as well - right now, they're bumping 90s Cher and Deborah Cox. - Prices are generally comparable to Starbucks. A medium hot chocolate, for example, goes for $4.15 with tax - definitely worth it when you want to hang out here for a few hours. - Free WiFi is available, as well as wall outlets for those of us with crappy computers - hallelujah! THE BAD: - I've got nothing - 5/5 stars! Still on my to-do list is to try the scones and other baked goods - I'll be sure to give them a try and report back. Came here on a Sunday evening. Barista clearly did not know how to make a latte. Took out a carafe previously steamed milk from the fridge and re-steamed, which turned out too hot and flat in texture. He seemed new to the job, but the supervisor with him didn't seem too interested either. If I wanted a place that didn't take their coffee seriously, I'd go to Tim Hortons or Starbucks. If I'm making the trip to an indie coffee shop, I expect a little more care to go into their drinks. I doubt I'll be going back. read more
