We've eaten here a couple of times. The building is larger than it appears from the outside. It's a lot of seating. The food is OK, I wish they still had the jalapeño coins on the menu. Much better experience! A busy Friday night - seemed well staffed and ready to go. Server was quick and kind. We split a club sandwich and it was SO GOOD. We removed the middle slice of bread, but seriously, this sandwich was absolutely stacked with meat, loaded with flavor. The sweet potato fries and their special sauce were great, too. Wish that I could be more positive, but unfortunately agree with some other reviews, hadn't been in a number of years, so seemed like a good option at the time. The good--nice bar atmosphere, light Sunday afternoon crowd, good attention from server. Not good--light Sunday afternoon crowd, so 45 minutes wait on 3 sandwiches and a salad was pretty bad. This pains me to write this review. Have been coming to the Rooster for 20+ years. Love this place. It is a family tradition. Great dive bar atmosphere, live entertainment, but they are extremely understaffed. Feel bad for the servers. Wait time for food was well over an hour. Maybe they just have 1 cook working these days? In 20 years, this place has never been like this. All I can say is "Pack your Patience". Also get ready to bus your own table, no bus boys in site. The Red Rooser Tavern is a charm to the lakeshore area! The food isn't just "tavern food." It is so delicious and the portions are generous. The rooster balls are homemade with potatoes, cheese and bacon and then deep fried... what's better than that?! I highly recommend trying them if you visit! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is quaint. There is live music there often as well. Check their Facebook page for more details on their live music schedule! Love the relaxed friendly atmosphere and their pizza and burgers! Great place to hang out.

Consistently good. Friendly staff. We live nearby and go in probably every 6 weeks or so. I've never had a bad experience. I love when they have a band. Had a girls night there in the winter. My friends and I were almost the only patrons in the bar. The owner got the karaoke machine out so we could be ridiculous. Lots of fun. read more

I was really hoping to love the food and it becoming a place to revisit but my first visit here fell short. The menu had several things that looked promising and consisted of comfort food entrees which I love. Me and my son both went with the fried chicken. It was not only over cooked but almost black. It really should have been tossed out so I was surprised that they even brought it out. But when they did you could immediately tell it was burnt. We were there for my sons bday celebration so complaining about the food was not the appropriate tone so we just went with it. My husband's steak overdone as well and nachos that were brought to the next table were burnt and black at the edges as well. So maybe it was an off night but for the prices per entrée, not really acceptable. My son had been here previously and had a good enough experience to pick the tavern as his choice to celebrate. This place is in a great location for those of you who love a winding scenic drive. Minutes from multiple beaches within Muskegon State Park. It has that perfect country-coastal midwest bar feel. Texan approved as they offer Shiner Bock in bottles, pretty good beer and liquor selection, but i got the vibes the wine options are "red" or "white"- this admittedly needs fact checked, i did not ask. Ordered the perch sandwich with fries and side salad. Side salad was a joke, so don't order it. Fries were hot and crispy. The perch in the sammy was perfectly delicious, but only two micro-filets were apparent- so the bun-to-fish ratio left more to be desired. More fish please. That being said it was only $10, so price wise, that makes sense. My partner got the chicken quesadilla. I enjoyed that as well. It was the cheeze knees. Wickedly cheesy and the pulled chicken was seasoned well. Salsa was about what you would expect from a midwest pub. I mean I didn't not eat it. Overall location is fun and vibes are fun, food is mediocre. But sometimes that's exactly what you need. read more

The place is filthy, cobwebs and carpet is very dirty. Table is sticky and dirty as well, had nachos, skimpy meat and cheese in it, sour cream was watery, my husband got pizza, nothing to write home about. Stopped in here for a quick meeting with co-workers. We stopped here because of the reviews on Yelp. I was not let down. This is an awesome little dive bar in middle of the country. It is not on Lake Michigan however. There is a thick line of trees between the bar and the water. The bartender is really nice and the locals at the bar were friendly. We were dressed in suits and did not feel unwelcome at all. Looks like a good menu and would be a fun spot to wind down the night. read more

This is the kind of place I live to find. Out of the way, local-oriented, good menu and well prepared food. I had perch and fries, partner had sirloin and red-skin mashed. Perch was light and tasty, Good flavor and not fishy. Steak well-seasoned (not over-). Fries were coated and didn't need sauce, mashed were made were real potatoes. Not only do I love this place, but the owners are great people. The food is good and they have a lot of fun special events. Live music on Wednesdays, Friday's and Saturdays. I've seen a couple of reviews here that complain about the rule of no minors after 10pm. While there are No state laws that require this, some townships and municipalities have their own laws regarding this issue and state law allows them to do so. Also, many restaurants in this area do this for the protection of the children. I've been to venues like this all over the world and always seen similar rules. Red Rooster is definitely a great place for great food, people and entertainment. read more

So good! My husband and I passed this place while staying at Michillinda Lodge for the weekend. So glad we decided to stop for dinner! The French Dip was one of the best my husbands ever had. Food was served fast, and tasted good. The restaurant was clean. The amazing part was the server/ bartender Angie, she took care of the bar duties and waited no less than 5 tables all with at least 4 guests, one had 9 with several little kids with special requests. She hustled the food out and really kept a positive attitude, communicated with everyone, including greeting guests coming in and leaving and knew her regular customers drinks and food orders. First time here. It's definitely a tavern with burgers and beer, lake perch, but no steaks on the menu. The food we had was good, but too pricey. The burger special was $12 and Mac and cheese was $10. We like a menu with more dinner choices. Service was nice and atmosphere was relaxed. They have a band on Wednesday. I cannot review the food or atmosphere because we were not allowed in, so I am giving a 1 star based on customer service and advertising. We got in to town around 10:30 the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. We wanted to grab a bite to eat, so we pulled up Yelp to search for places open AND Kid Friendly. This was a suggestion, so we doubled checked the page to make sure it said "Good for kids". When we arrived they rudely told us our children were not allowed in, we questioned their advertising and were told state law does not allow children in establishments who serve alcohol after 10pm, which is not true. I totally understand places not wanting children after a certain time at night, but don't advertise "good for kids" or make a note on your page. We should have taken a a hint when the girl at the gas station said she lives right by there and has never been. read more
