    Carlisle's from across Western

Diamond in the rough! Carlisle's stood out from the other spots on this busy stretch of Western with an interesting menu that went beyond the usual fried baskets. My sis got the Gojugang shrimp skewers -- nice flavors, not too spicy -- and my wife got the smashburger, which she pretty much raved about with its juicy middle and crispy edges. In-house fries were also delish, a nice snap, with chewy middle. Mmm. Service was on point, friendly, and they got us a great spot on the covered patio outside, which made for great people watching out on Western Ave. The inside is big too, with a whole other room and a separate bar with TVs. Seems there's a hockey arena out back, I'm told. Nice and laid back, but not divey, with good service and a diverse menu...it all makes for a good combo.

Friendly greeting. excellent service, yummy and generous serving of nachos. Ground beef was flavorful and cheese was well melted and incorporated. Hockey rink added bonus.

We are visiting Michigan for a couple of weeks and one of our favorite things to do when visiting new places is restaurants we don't have back home. Well, we weren't disappointed! This place was truly so cool- an ice skating rink for their local hockey team can be seen from inside the restaurant. The service was great- we like trying favorites and everything we had was good. The vibe was wonderful, the location was great and the food was amazing. If you're in the area, definitely stop by, I think you can get anything here and it will be good.

While staying one night in Muskegon and looking for dinner, our web search showed five restaurants with nearly identical restaurants. Carlisle's had just a little something different and it was a great choice. I had the grain bowl. The dressing was tangy and a yummy contrast to the goat cheese and root veggies. It was a hot and cold salad, which I love. The kale was also finely chopped making the texture and taste excellent. My husband had the queso. It was a thinner cheese with nice chunks of tomato and beef. The chips were crisp and warm. The venue has viewing slots for the hockey arena below and it faces a well traveled street, so we enjoyed people watching on both sides.

What a great concept with the restaurant on the mezzanine of the hockey arena . On a Saturday afternoon youth hockey was going on and you could watch from the bar or inside . We chose the patio covered still and warm in a 55 degree Saturday . The cocktails were well crafted , the beer list loaded with local options and Other craft brews plus the standards . We sampled the Mushroom dip which was almost like a thick mushroom soup with toasted pita points for dipping . Very yummy with lots mushroom chunks and garlic ! Then we did the Michigan cony dogs , the sauce was reminiscent of the Detroit classics and they were covered with plenty of coney sauce plus cheese and onions . My wife raved about the thinly sliced French fries with just the right crunch . Homemade chips were excellent too . Many options in the revitalized Muskegon downtown.

I'm not super familiar with the food scene in Muskegon, but we're having fun checking out different spots when we're in town. Nate and I have enjoyed going to the Muskegon Risers soccer games, so we decided to try Carlisle's for dinner recently before the game. It's actually attached to the arena so you can even order food and drinks from a walk up window while you're at the game. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were really great. We started with the honey broccoli and I got a full order of fish and chips and Nate ordered the French dip. The broccoli was a generous portion and it had a lot of sticky honey sauce. I liked the texture of the walnuts but overall the dish was just too sweet for me. I figured it would be and this doesn't really detract from my overall rating. Nate really liked this dish and I did enjoy the kick of spice. The fish and chips looked really good and for the most part I was pleased. Their fries are the flat kind which I think are unique and tasty. They had a bit of vinegar dust but did need a bit more malt vinegar. The fish was flaky but a bit soggy on the bottom. I think the portion was good for the price. The French dip looked amazing with lots of tender pulled meat and melty cheese. However it really needed something to cut through the richness - the horseradish sauce tasted like mayo with a teeny drop of horseradish. Some spicy giardiniera would have made this sandwich even better! I liked the atmosphere of the bar and they have a heated enclosed patio that people were enjoying. I'd come here again as they had other delicious sounding items.

This new spot in downtown Muskegon is really a place you need to check out! It's located on Western Ave. And connected to the ice rink. Parking is ample with street parking and a lot across the street that is usually free unless there's a hockey game going on. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service was just alright. Nothing spectacular but also not bad. There was also a 3% utility fee on our check? That was a surprise, but again not a huge deal. Their drink menu is extensive, and I will definitely be back to try some of their cocktails! Otherwise they have a decent selection of domestic beers, and they have some cider too! I'm always a huge fan of places that carry cider. The food was excellent! While I've only tried the appetizers, they were very large portions, and absolutely delicious. The rest of the menu looks really good, so I will have to go back to try something from there too. Overall, it was a nice vibe on the covered patio. There were plenty of seats inside and at the bar, but I liked the option for us to sit wherever we wanted. There were the nice lights, two TV's, and heaters in the outside portion. We also went on a Monday night, and we had the entire patio portion to ourselves!

Great spot downtown. Nice outdoor seating, even had enjoyable live music. Waitress was sweet and helpful. Food was delicious and came out quickly. When they say hot, they mean it with the broccoli... made my nose run, lol! But it was very good!!! I don't have a single negative thing to mention about our time here... will definitely be back to try more off the menu. :)

They never let me down here! I've eaten here several times, brought several different friends here, and every time it's a home run! I've had salads, apps, sandwiches, fish n chips, burgers, cocktails..... It's ALL good! Definitely would recommend the fish n chips!! The fare is casual, but the restaurant itself is a step above that. It's not stuffy, but it's still classy while letting you feel totally chill like you're at home with your friends. The service is exceptional. Love sitting at the bar - the bartenders are great. The outdoor seating is also a great vibe with good service. The restaurant is actually connected to the Muskegon Timberwolves hockey arena, so if you are at the restaurant you could catch a practice or game. This is just one of those all around great places that you can always count on, where everyone can find something on the menu they'll like, and the food and service will always be good.

Pear & Honey cocktail and an Old Fashioned

We love trying new places! Came for lunch on Saturday while Michigan was playing Penn State. Not super busy - which was nice! We weren't the only people there and it wasn't so busy we couldn't get a seat. We were greeted right when we walked in and told we could sit wherever we wanted the bar side or the slightly quieter side with just tables. Of course we opted for the bar. The back side of the bar is open to the arena where little kids were playing hockey, adorable! We started with a couple cocktails - the Pear & Honey (tequila, pear purée, honey simple syrup and orange liquor) and the Classic Old Fashion. Both were delicious. For a starter we tired the Warm House Made Chips with a trio of dips - French Onion, Creamy Buffalo and Beer Cheese. The chips were quite salty, to the point I was trying to brush the salt off. The dips were delightful! My favorite was the beer cheese, his favorite was the buffalo. We shared the Smash Burger - no onions, shredded pickles on the side and fries. It was awesome! Again, a little on the salty side for the burger, but it was a great burger. The shredded pickles were a really nice touch! I've never had that before, now I am going to want them all the time! Those flat fries though - incredible! Interesting that those were NOT too salty! We are already picking out what we want to have next time!

Poke Tuna Bowl and the Cold Soba Bowl
    Kerry S.

Thanks to Yelp, we found Carlisle's while on a family camping vacation. I had the Tuna Poke Bowl, my husband had the Soba bowl, and our son had the hot dog and fries off the kid's menu. All food was fresh and pretty fast and the service was great. My poke bowl was a bit of a fusion with guacamole, sriracha Mayo, and sweet pickles, but the edamame, egg, and bed of warm rice hit the spot. My husband's soba was not hand made, but the bowl was full of good tastes. Again, the flavors were a strange amalgam, but hit the spot. The fries were legit delicious. Next time here, I'll do the fish and chips.

Grain Bowl , plus Brocolli dishes were the best. I'm vegetarian. Thanks. Yummy food. I recommend!

We came in around 8:00 on Sunday, 2/1/26 and sat at the bar. The bartender Jackie was busy and didn't see us for a couple minutes - once she did she apologized and took great care of us! We started with boneless wings, 1/2 buffalo, 1/2 garlic parm, they were really good! For our entrees I had the prime rib quesadilla and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! It was served SO hot I thought I would burn my mouth! But it would be worth it! He had the perch dinner and wasn't as thrilled with it as I was with mine. He said the perch is better at Whitlow's. There were lots of games on, hockey, basketball and a sports documentary. It wasn't too loud, but it is a lively atmosphere. I'm happy with our experience and hope we come back again soon.
