Matt is the greatest! He just refurbished two tattoos I had done in 2009. They were done by another local artist and he did a great job. But like everything else in life, the old tats were showing some wear and tear. I turned Matt loose and let him do whatever he felt was necessary to bring them back to life. I couldn't be more pleased. They actually look better now than when they were new. If anyone is thinking about having an older tat redone, I would definitely give Matt a call. read more

This has been one of the best experiences with a business in my life (I am not exaggerating). I am active duty military and am currently stationed overseas. After a really chewing on the idea of getting a tattoo, I figured the best time to get one would be when coming home back to Springfield. So I called RET from across the country and let them know of my tight schedule in coming back to Springfield with the full intention of getting a tattoo from them. After some email traffic, Brian (the owner) mentioned he would squeeze me in as long as I could make the time. I drove into Springfield at 1100 and by 1300 we were discussing the design. Very simple ... the hydrogen atom. The hostess was so friendly and Brian was so gracious to take away some of his business management time to make room for me. He was extremely professional, inquisitive, and asked just the right questions to make sure the location, size, and color was my desire. During the tattoo, Brian did well at keeping me calm and engaged during the process as well. Overall, hands down 5 stars... considering 1) they adjusted their schedule to make room for me when they didn't have to, 2) professional attitude and super friendly, and 3) great facilities. Never got the chance to get a tattoo here so my review is not in their quality of work. Shop website, sign on door and phone message says they open on Saturdays at 10 am. We showed up at 11 and the doors were locked. Tried calling, no answer. Left a message and they never returned our call. Was kinda bummed since they had good reviews. I've had excellent work done by the propietor in meetings past and, after an interminable period of research on all other local facilities specializing in the ancient art of artistic bodily amelioration, I concluded that Brian McCormick could perform up to my expectations. I was not wrong. Our initial encounter was scheduled and I was met with excitement and an inherent comfort akin to coming home after leaving my mother's womb. Concepts and direction were assessed and after providing a plethora of ideas, Brian was able to navigate my scattered imagery and guide me with the care and patience of a 2nd grade teacher:nurturing my individuality while explaining the creative limits one must understand before proceeding. We scheduled a date to begin my American traditional sleeve and upon the eve of said date I found myself restless with excitement. I was hours away from my transformation and anxiety was increasing with every tick of my 1959 Montgomery electrofutura clock my grandfather designed while living as a cast away on the 3 man island, Moshi Harata. Anyways, the following morning I entered the shop and was overwhelmed with the sensation of comfort, surrounded by a blanket of light and understanding. I laid upon the leather throne after the design placement and meditated while Brian began our journey. As the needle touched my arm I entered an out of body experience. Expected pain from the tattoo machine was minimal and as he was finishing up the shading I realized two hours had passed. It felt like seconds. The unveiling of his design was accompanied by my conscious providing blessed arrival tones similar to those played when a child is born at Memorial Hospital. Words to convey my amazement don't exist in English and I find myself only able to describe it in a lost Kwandiki native tongue: "Toma masimoroth easchiite j'aonsidivon," which roughly translates to "when the first land based animal opened its eyes, colors were realized for the first time and what would become known as art, love, promise, and fucking happiness converged from the abyss for which it was previously unknown." There are some cool skulls and shit to look at too. Cant wait to finish the rest of my sleeve. read more

I won't go anywhere in town. I came to Springfield with a half-assed, half-finished sleeve and went into "lost puppy" mode when it came to finding a new artist. Per recommendation, I came to Brian. Heads up: Brian (and all the guys here) will be blunt with you. He will tell you what will work, what won't, what fits, what makes sense; that's something more shops need to do. I needed direction, and Brian seriously helped me out. Over the course of about a year, he didn't just finish my sleeve, but seriously improved it (and gave me a couple of sick bats on Halloween). He fixed my crooked lighthouse, made adjustments to warped leaves... I still have yet to come in for touch ups due to work scheduling, but I plan to. My last appointment we did my elbow... Doubt I'll be touching that up (uh.. OW). I only recommend this place when asked. I trust the dudes and my artist of choice. If you're looking for someone who won't BS you, seriously consider Redbird. read more

Just left Redbird Electric and I have to say I was very pleased with my experience! I was greeted by the receptionist Benny with a warm smile and friendly "hello" within seconds of coming in. I was there to purchase a gift card for a friend, and although Benny was not yet trained on how to do that he found me someone that could help me. If the actual artists are anything like Benny my friend is in for a real treat!
