If you ever want to feel like Eleven from Stranger Things, here is your chance! You won't be going to the upside down or anything, but you will definitely have a chance to completely zone out in a futuristic-lookin' pod filled with 1200lbs of salt (yes, 1200lbs)! I've been curious and wanting to try out floating for a while and a friend of mine recommended this place. It was a convenient location for me in Kensington and I heard that they will be opening up a new place in Marda Loop. You can call or book online a session which run for 1.5hr. It sounds like a long time to just float in water, but trust me it goes by faster then you think! And you can also leave at any point before then as well. When I first arrived, there was no one at the front desk and it took some time getting the attention of the one staff there as the very loud filtration was going on in the back so it was a little noisy when I arrived. The staff introduced himself and brought me into one of the rooms. Inside the room there's a large pod, a shower and a basket of stuff if I needed it. The staff was a little fast in explaining everything, but I got the gist of everything. You shower beforehand, put in these squishy putty in your ears to keep the salty water out and I decided to use a floaty pillow that was provided for a little bit of extra neck support. The water I was told was body temperature and I was surprised how effortless it was to float. I'm not going to lie it took a bit of time adjusting to the environment. There was no music in my room (there are in pods 5 and 6) so I was really left with my own thoughts. I actively tried to get as relaxed as possible and really focused on my breathing and heart rate. Once I eventually did slow myself down, I felt completely weightless and I became so relaxed and zoned out that I couldn't tell what part of me was in the water and what wasn't. It felt like I was floating in space. Music came on to gently "wake me up" and tell me my session was over. Getting out of the tank was so hard because I just wanted to sleep I was so relaxed. I wish that the outside temperature was a touch warmer but the staff member told me that they can actually adjust both the temperature of the room and water. So good to keep in mind next time I come in. Overall, I think it's a really neat concept for those that just want break from the business and stress of life. It definitely helps to be in an environment with absolute zero distractions, noise or any pressure from your body and just to really focus slowing your mind down. Give yourself some time to adjust to the new feeling for sure! Definitely give this a try after a workout session or in the evening, especially closer to bed time, you will for sure be ready for it. read more

I had a very good experience floating with FloatLife. A friend of mine had suggested that I tried it because I also like meditation. I was hesitating at the beginning but then I saw a promotion of 5 floats (60 or 75 mins) for $175.00 + tax I decided to purchase it. After confirmation of my purchase I went to their website to book my session. At that time the Kensington location was still open and that's where I went. For first timers, the staff will play a video so you know what to do and what to expect. They also ask if you have a preference on the music that you'll be hearing; you can also bring your own audio device if you want and they'll play it for you. After that I was taken to one of the rooms where the staff person briefly explained again a few things and left me to enjoy my floating session. There are ear plugs to prevent the water from getting inside your ears and also a head foam that will keep your head afloat. The water and room temperature is really comfortable, it helps to relax and enjoy doing nothing haha. Since I am able to quiet my mind because of mediation, it was easier for me to enjoy my session. Once the either 60 or 75 mins have passed, they turn off the music and turn on the lights. You get out of the pod and there is a shower inside your own room where you will want to shower to remove the salt from your body. They provide shampoo, soap, and towels. I felt very relaxed after my session, I stayed in reception for a little bit before going back to my car and back to reality. read more

I had heard about the benefits of floating from a few articles and was eager to invite a friend, who was visiting from California, for a completely new experience. Floating at FloatLife was a real treat! Relaxing, rejuvenating and when I was finished the session, my neck felt better. Stress melted right off! Must have been the 24 pounds of Epson salts, also. Interested in floating for quiet a long time. Floated previously in a tank in a basement of a group of people. Float life is awesome and so much better. State of the art tanks in separate rooms (5 tanks total) each with their own shower. I really love this place, it is a nice calming atmosphere and great for the soul. Its great if you have a lot of things going on and feel rushed it can help you slow down for a hour and half to relax and focus on what you need to do. The whole purpose of floating is to remove all distractions and let your brain focus on what is bothering you or what you want to focus on. Somethings suggestions on what to do you on your first float.. Make sure you cover any cuts or scratches with Vaseline otherwise they will sting like crazy. Focus on your breathing and heart beat. Listen to your body and let it take on control. Sometimes you can try to control your thoughts and that can be beneficial however I find the best moments I have in the tank are when I completely let go. My only "complaint" is the 3 month life of the 10 times pass. Would like it to be longer but either way I still love this place and will keep going read more

I went for my first float at the new Marda Loop location, and it was fantastic! it felt like i was floating in space. So soothing, and relaxing. Everyday life can be so chaotic and full of so much stimulation, this is the perfect antidote. i cannot praise it enough. read more

I went to the location in Marda Loop and it was fantastic! It was very easy to drive to and parking was easy to find. The staff was very polite, friendly, and informative. There was a waiting room with comfy couches and a different selection of tea that I could try. As well, there was a room where you could go after the float that had a hair dryer and lotion. In my room, there was a small area to change with a stool to put my stuff on, a shower (shampoo, conditioner, and towels are provided), and a door that led to a float room. I did not have a float pod, it was a room with a tall ceiling and felt very spacious. Once I got inside, I had the option of having lights on and music on, but I decided to turn both off to get the full effect. Although, I could turn both on at any moment if I changed my mind. As well, you can open the door to the room at any moment if you want to leave early for whatever reason. It was effortless to float, and most of the time I couldn't tell where my body ended and the water began. This experience is truly like nothing I've ever experienced before. Time moved differently. It felt like only 20 minutes had gone by when my session ended. After, I noticed my hair and skin were both softer, I was not stressed, my muscles were no longer tense, and I felt very relaxed. I would highly recommend trying this at least once. You'd be surprised by how much you enjoy it. read more
